15The next day Mom and Skye and I were standing in front of a bright-green baby reptile that looked like it belonged on another planet. Elaine, who owned the crowded pet store full of frogs and birds and a few rescue dogs, showed us cages and heating lights and all sorts of rocks for lizards to rest on. She said she thought it was a female, but you couldn’t be sure until they were a year old. Mom bought two of everything, so I could keep the iguana at Dad’s place as well. “That’s the sweetest face I’ve ever seen,” said Skye. Sweet isn’t the word I would use, but this iguana was beautifully weird with bright green markings on her face and golden eyes. She was as still as a stone and looked like she was from outer space. I immediately knew what I was going to name her – Moon Rock. Elaine
