1. I Heard the Rain Dropping Down on Me
The rain poured heavily tonight - pitter patter on the wet concrete as the silence creeped in the gated community. The vehicle stopped and parked in front of one of the apartments, the engine turning off ever slightly. Two of the car doors opened as one slid off the front passenger's seat. As the young man opened the door for the tired furball, the cat herself hung onto the wolf in protection of the rain. He walked her to her door silently, and as soon as she opened it, she looked back at him. Turning around to face him, she saw a broken heart through his teared up face. He hoped to hear something as they stood there with him in the rain.
"Goodnight," was all that she said to him as she gently closed the door.
The very last thing she saw was of his face heartbroken, his eyes pleading for a sign that they're still together. She never said a word, but it was during that time that the night's weather spoke for them instead.
Her chest tightened, heart beat palpitated, her throat swallowing for thirst. She put down her belongings on the table of the small living space and slowly travesered to the kitchen. She stopped. Instead, she started looking out of the window of the dining room to see the vehicle in the middle of leaving the place. She thought of running after it, but she doesn't have the heart to do it.
Grabbing a glass of cold water, she drank most of it and gulped in refreshment. However, she felt guilt. As she sluggishly went over to the small space, she focused on laying down on the sofa on a very cold night shivering herself to sleep.
Not being able to doze off, she carried her stuff to her bedroom as quiet as possible and dropped them down carefully to her pulled out bed. She got on and went under the blanket, the warmth protecting her from the cold. She sniffled, took a huge breath and pulled the covers closer to her face. As the night started to fall darker, so did she.
The stars of the night sky started to dim as she silently cried herself to sleep.
Her drenched fur weighed her down, her tears covering up her heart wrenching face but not as bad as the other one that had hurt her. This one, even though she predicted it, was going to happen eventually. She wasn't prepared for it at all. She didn't plan for it to happen, it was at the spur of the moment. The water sparkled downward her fate. She didn't ask for this.
As she tried to silent her unbearable cries from underneath her heavy blanket, her mother and brother stirred around on their bed slightly above her. They don't speak of it, but they do hear her pleas in the middle of the night and don't tell her about it, pretending that they never heard it in the first place. She doesn't talk about her feelings to her own family and will never reveal anytime soon.
As the night sky shimmers from the light given from the bright moon outside, wolves and dogs alike start to howl the darkness away. She could just imagine one in particular whimpering away, while the other howls at the top of his lungs. Her tears continued to fall down on her cheeks as she had started to doze off.
Nothing but the smell and sound of the rain, the pouring waters dropping down on her starless night sky, helped her fall deep to sleep
