Emmeline broke the news of the accident to Chloe as soon as she got to her office. She also conveyed the cause of Darren's accident. It was a minor accident according to Lea, but Emmeline said, "For Lea's sake, I should probably go see him anyway."
"There's a better idea than going alone," said Chloe.
"Oh no. I can't go alone. I'll go with Lea. Darren is at his house. I can't see him alone."
"You're not considering bringing Anna along?"
Emmeline widened her eyes and glared at Chloe.
"No need to be so shocked. I heard she saved you when Darren tried to talk to you—or bother you, whatever you call it—the other day. Anna came and spilled coffee on Darren's coat, is that true? Haha!" Chloe laughed amusedly. "I can't imagine how messed up it was that day because of Anna. But hey, sometimes that girl can do some good too." Chloe was nodding her head with a lingering laugh on her face and a lingering imagination in her head, but she realized immediately, Emmy was staring at her silently.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Chloe asked.
Emmeline took a deep breath. "I sympathize with him for what happened that time. But you're right. At that time Anna's arrival gave me a chance to get away from Darren. But now, I don't think it would be wise to take Anna with me. What if it turns out that Darren is really sick from yesterday's accident and needs rest? Then what do you mean by asking me to take Anna if you know I'm going to visit Darren with Lea? Hm?" Emmeline challenged Chloe to give her an answer. "You want Anna to meet Lea now, and see them get along, then hang out while we haven't prepared Anna?"
"Oh, sorry then," said Chloe. "But why don't you just trust Lea, who says Darren is fine. I'm sure he's fine at the moment, and you don't need to see him."
Emmeline, glanced at Chloe expressionlessly. She wasn't interested in responding either.
Emmy was just about to tell Chloe to do some errands when her cell phone suddenly rang. Emmeline found an unknown number calling her. Emmy looked doubtful for a moment, before then picked up the phone.
Her eyes widened when she found it was Darren who had apparently contacted her. Emmeline didn't expect it, and that's why she expressed her displeasure.
"If I called you on my number you probably wouldn't pick up," Darren said. Chloe Levine, paused in front of Emmy listening and paying close attention. "Emmeline, I'm in front of your office right now. I hope it's okay, if we talk for a minute?"
Emmeline raised her eyebrows in surprise. She looked at Chloe with a frown. "How did you get here? Weren't you sick after the accident?"
"It's no big deal. I'm sure Lea was the one who told you about it. But I'm fine."
Emmy was still glaring at Chloe. "What do you want to talk about, Darren?"
"Come out, Emmy. We'd better talk face-to-face. Or else how about having guests in your office?"
Emmeline was wide-eyed. She was silent for a moment, and thought carefully. "You'd better go home. I have important work to do."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course," said Emmy. She looked back at Chloe with a thoughtful look.
"Okay." Darren hung up the phone. Now Emmeline, lowered the phone from her ear in disbelief.
"He asked to meet?" Chloe asked.
"Yes. He asked me to come out and see him. He wanted to talk."
"I'm right, aren't I? He's fine. He's even here now, after Lea visited him this morning. That's outrageous."
Emmeline still looked worried, while Chloe continued to speak.
"What's the matter with you, Emmy? Are you all right?"
"Um—yes. I just—em, Chloe, what if he had the guts to come in here? He said he was going into the office."
"Impossible." Chloe chuckles disapprovingly. She immediately got up and said, "I'll tell the security guard not to let him in."
Chloe walked past Emmeline and walked towards the door to exit. However, just for a moment when she had just opened the door, her steps came to a sudden halt. She gaped in surprise, to find a man standing at the door, and a Karfis & Vin staff behind him.
"Sorry Miss Chloe, I've asked him to wait, but he won't."
Chloe was silent for a moment. Before then nodding at the female staff and signaling her to leave.
"How are you, Chloe? I hope you are okay? I came here to see Emmeline."
Chloe remained silent, then nodded. She took a few steps back, realizing that it seemed like she could no longer resist the man's urge to enter. He was none other than Darren. Darren immediately took this opportunity. He entered the room, but before closing the door, he asked, "You don't want to come out, Chloe?"
Chloe gasped. She looked at Darren in annoyance. "No. I still have work here."
Darren raised his eyebrows. He seemed to have noticed the Emmy's assistant was trying to be stubborn. Darren then closed the door, and had no other choice but to let Chloe be in the room.
Darren walked with steady steps and found Emmeline already standing waiting for him with an expression that looked displeased. "How are you, Emmy? I was right that you were just in your room, and I don't think you're as busy as you tell me to be."
"Enough, Darren. I don't like your attitude."
"Sorry, then." Darren stopped after arriving right in front of Emmy. "But I'm not giving you the choice to like it or not, Emmy. And you don't have to be so upset. I just came here to support you. We've seen each other a few times recently. At your birthday party, at dinner, on other occasions, but not a single time of any of those opportunities we use to talk closely. Like friends, best friends, or ... Darren brought his face closer to Emmeline, "ex-lover," he continued quietly.
Chloe walked over right at that moment. Her footsteps were heard. Darren straightened up again.
"Emmy, I sympathize with the bad news you're getting. I know you shouldn't be bothered with all that unimportant issue. Trust me. I also disagreed when I found out that Lea uploaded all those photos, just to show the world, your new relationship with someone. Someone you don't want to introduce to anyone." Darren smiled slyly.
Emmeline gasped. Her breath began to roar with annoyance filling her chest.
"Why don't you try to stop it?" Darren continued. "I still have my doubts to this day. Is it true that someone named Corbin is your lover? I never saw him again after that dinner. And even if you had a big event or unpleasant news addressed to you, he still wasn't here to support you. Was your relationship just an illusion, Emmy? Have you never really had a relationship with anyone?" Darren brought his face closer to Emmeline, staring at her intently, not caring if Chloe was among them.
"Darren, please step back," Chloe said. "Or better get out, for we have more important work to do."
"What's the matter, Chloe? You don't have to go along with it. I won't do anything to your boss, you calm down."
"Darren, enough. You've gone too far!" said Emmeline. Her gaze reddened with anger that was aimed squarely at Darren. But Darren looked unfazed.
"Look at me, Emmeline. Look at me. You're only going to show me that what I say is true."
"Shut up!" Emmeline snapped. "Shouldn't Lea already have a place in your heart? Why do you keep harassing me?"
Darren fell silent. He stared intently at Emmy in an unreadable expression. A moment of silence enveloped them for a moment.
"Miss Karfis!" a cheerful and loud voice suddenly sounded.
