The fight with Gabriela destabilized me a bit. I know she’s right, but staying in Florence now is a risk.
While in the office, the funeral home called me and told me all the details. Carlo doesn’t have a wife; his wife passed away many years ago, and he had only a 20-year-old son who lived with his maternal grandparents. I asked someone to let the boy know so he could say goodbye to his father.
I gave Gabriela some time to calm down. My mind was still going back to the scene of Carlo dead in my lap. Even though it’s still unbelievable, I need to react!
