Chloe Starveil, a 22 year old woman who is living a life not so grand. She was born with the ability to smell someone's bloodline. Her parents abandoned her when she was an infant. She grew up in several foster-care homes, has a criminal background and has the heroes of this town looking for her. She has made herself a nuisance with her ability. Not only has she used their families against the heroes to get what she wants, she has hung other things valuable over other villains with truces, alliances and information on said heroes. She knows everyone's true identity, but she keeps those names to herself mainly. If she outed any of them truthfully, she would out herself. Instead, she uses this ability to her advantage and keeps both sides on fish hooks. Though, this line of work doesn't come without consequences, one such hero found out who she truly was. As did a villain. Both sides use her just as equally as she uses them. But like all hero and villain stories, she grew to love both. Seth, also known as Flame Knight, was the first hero to find out who she is by sheer accident. Her mask had fallen off as his blade was about to end her life. He stopped short when he saw her eyes. They are the mixture of rainbows. Then, there was Zephyr, the villain known as Dark Forest, his ability to create a foreboding forest mixed with illusions had her trapped. With a blade to her throat, he tore off her mask and instantly saw her eyes. Not for their colors, but for the lack of fear as courage held in her eyes. This made him obsessed with her. Join Chloe as she discovers who she must be with and who must be killed. Being a hero or villain, someone has to lose. Will Seth prevail in leading her down the right path? Or will Zephyr push her further down into the darkness?

This will not be available for a few weeks, but I am taking a break from Heir's & Enemies as the contract for it is being written up this week. Stay tuned my awesome people! As always, happy reading!

Chapter 1: On the Run
~Chole's P. O. V~ I am laughing as I make my escape from these so-called villains. Please, all they have are guns and a boss who whores himself out for money. He's not exactly young either. Those poor women, they get jipped simply for being in the presence of that man-w***e. I par-koured on a few walls and jumped over some dumpsters. The bag I am holding jiggles with gold coins as I run. Idiots, did they really think leaving this in the hands of a newbie was smart?! Oh, well, I am laughing all the way to the bank with this. I'll have to count the coins when I get to my place. Suddenly, I feel immense pain in my back as a person falls onto me, "Hold up, sweet cheeks." Damnit! Not him! "Flame Knight." He takes the bag off my shoulders and pushes me against the wall. "Argh. Always so gentle, huh?" "With you? Never." His half mask shows a smile that spreads from ear to ear. "Stealing from a mafia boss?" He shook his head, "Someone is getting too ahead of themselves." He leans in closer and places a kiss on my lips. Returning his kiss. I miss one of my guys. I wrap my arms around his neck as I deepen the kiss. "Is that anyway to treat your girlfriend, Seth?" His strong arms have a hold of my waist. "It is when she is still doing crime. Come on, Chloe." His voice holds disappointment in it. "Eventually, they are going to kill you. I won't be there to protect you like I am tonight." He is right, but he doesn't know the struggle I am facing. "Stealing from a mob boss is bad now?" I playfully question. Hoping to bring up his mood. "It is!" He yelled. "You need to stop. Why do you do it?" Looking down and away from him. He should not get into my world, yet here we are. In a dark alley that smells like piss and s**t. "Would you believe me if I told you?" Pulling off his mask and hood, revealing his beautiful green eyes and dark brown hair. "I don't know. Chloe, I love you, but this?" Motioning to the alley way itself. "I can help you at the very least. Just stop being a criminal. What if Undergod finds you?" Undergod, the leader of the heroes here in Sanctum Way. His powers rival those of the gods, having three powers to everyone's one. He wields lightning, water and wind. "He will not hesitate to bring you before a judge." His rough hand came to my cheek, kissing me again. "I will take this back and tell them that you got away from me." Kissing me one last time, "Then, I will find out why you keep doing this, Chloe. When I do, I will get you the help you need." Backing away from me, he shoots up his claw hook. "I love you. Stay out of trouble for a few days." Sighing in defeat, "I love you too, Seth." With our goodbyes said, he pulled the trigger and vanished into the night. I slid down that wall and started crying. I didn't need the money for myself, I needed it for my dog. He's dying from a poison that can be cured. Some i***t fed my dog rat poison earlier today and now he's in the vet. Wiping my tears, forcing myself to get up and go back to the vet's office to see how he's doing. On the way there, I saw other heroes arresting villains for misdemeanors and murder. It is barely 5 in the evening and yet, it is dark as hell. I hate winter nights. The cold air rushes through me as if I am paper, the wind blowing into my eyes and making them sting. Holding my arms close to me, I made my way to Sanctum Pet Hospital and Clinic. Going to the door and wiping my shoes off and enter that small office. Approaching the counter, "Hi. My name's Chloe Starveil. I brought in my dog earlier. Timber?" The lady finally looks up at me, but something about her is off, she looks like she is holding back tears. "Come around the counter and go to room 5. Dr. Christine will be there in a few." She leads me to a room and closes the door. I don't see my dog. I sit here and wait patiently. About 5 minutes later, the doctor enters the room. "Miss. Starveil?" "Yes?" I stand and approach her, "Where is my dog?" She motions for me to sit back down. "I don't know how to bring this news gently, honey." She takes a breath in, "Timber... Died on the table." My whole world had just been destroyed. My beautiful Huskey, gone. I did the only thing I could do. I screamed in tears. He was my baby. I brought him home when he was a puppy. His mom and siblings were dead when I found him. I nursed him back to health. He was only 6 years old. My companion, the only one in this damned world who mattered to me. It didn't even matter if I stole that money now. "The poison was more than we thought. Whoever gave him the rat poison, gave him a lot of it. He died two hours ago." She helps me up and holds me like a mom would. "Why?" I cry out, "Why him? He was a good dog." I question the gods more than anyone. He was innocent. If anyone should have died, it should have been me. "People can be cruel." She pulls me away from her, "Now, we have to ask, do you want to bury him yourself, or would you like him cremated?" I can't carry him. I'll never be able to put him down into that dirt. Knowing that I failed him. "Cremation." I managed to get out. She nods and hands me the paperwork. With the onslaught of tears, the paper became wet. I went back to the waiting room and paid for their services. It was all I had. "In a week we will send you his paw print." The lady at the counter tells me. I just nod and leave. Going home wouldn't be ideal right now. Instead, I went to my second place. Walking to his favorite place where the water flowed into a masive river and the tunnel where he would try to find anything to bring to me. I got there and fell on my knees while holding my stomach. I screamed as I cried. A hand on my back had me scream again. It turned out to be my other boyfriend, Zephyr. "Zeph... Don't scare me like that." I had my hand over my heart. "I'm sorry, Chloe. I was passing by and I heard screaming." Sitting down next to me. "Want to tell me what happened?" I shake my head no. Zeph nor Seth knew about Timber. I grab onto his shirt and begin crying again. "Just hold onto me, Zeph." I feel his arms wrap around me as I continue crying into his chest. It felt like hours before I stopped crying. The sunlight told me that I had been out all night. Zeph is still holding me as he sleeps next to me. The mud caked our clothes and bodies. The dripping from the road above us told me that it had rained last night. I shook Zeph awake. "Hey." His golden-brown eyes slowly opened. His dirty blond hair had more mud in it than mine. I almost laughed. "Hey." He sits up slowly and rubs my back. "How are you feeling?" Again, I shake my head. "I won't pressure you into telling me. I can see that whatever it was, it's hurting you. And badly. Come on, I'll drop you off near your place." Standing up, he holds his hand out for me. I take it. "We look like a mess, don't we?" He tries to lighten the mood. "Afraid so, lady killer." I lightly bump into his hip. He returns it. Walking hand in hand, we took the time to get to my part of town. It is filthy, covered in graffiti and is part of the worst crime syndicates round. If I just keep my head down around here, people don't notice me. Yet, as we are passing some of this street gang, some had smiles and some are howling. Did they kill my dog? Timber was a quite dog for being a husky. "Hey, toots." One of the syndicate's higher ups came to us. He tries grabbing me away from Zeph. "Ah!" I yelp in surprise. "Keep your hands off my girl." Zeph pulls me back behind him. "Or what? You'll have her mutt come out and hurt us?" This tall thin man made a fake surprise look, "Oh, I'm sorry. That was insensitive." He smiled evilly, "He died last night, didn't he?" Through my grief, I pushed passed Zeph and began punching this man in the gut, the balls and in the face. When he fell over, I continued to punch him. "Don't!" Kick to his p***s. "You!" Punch in the eye. "Talk" Biting into his neck "About Timber!" Zeph came up behind me and pulled me off him. I was screaming and kicking towards the man. He was bloody and screaming out in pain himself. "Easy!" Zeph held onto me. He turned me to face him and held on to me. "Easy." I just cried again. I heard the spitting of the other man, "Glad that flea bag is gone. You live in our terf, toots." He spat up blood again. "Now, we can do what we want with you." This made Zephyr let me go and arm bar his neck, bringing him down into the ground. "She will not kill you, " His eyes became dangerous, his voice low, "But I will. Say another word against her or her dog and I will tear you limb from f*****g limb." Zeph brought out a revolver he named Nemesis and pointed it at the horrible man on the ground. "You know that saying? Where guns are used for doing? Not words?" He pulled the trigger and shot the man in his neck. "Let your death be a lesson to your gang. Touch her and you deal with me." The man looked at Zeph one last time before chocking on his own blood and dying. I looked away as he took his last breath. He put Nemesis away and came over to me. "Is that why you were crying last night? Your dog died?" "He was more than a pet, Zeph." Looking up at him, "He was my partner. My baby." The tears started again. "I raised him from a puppy. Someone poisoned him on purpose." Taking a hand, Zeph wipes away my tears. "I'm sorry. He must have meant a lot to you." He kisses my forehead. "What was his name?" I sniffled some tears, "Timber. He was a husky." Zeph starts rummaging through his pockets and then take one of my hands and opens it. He lays down quite a large some of cash. "I don't want you living here. When they find him dead, they'll come looking for you. I will make sure to lead them away." I close my palm and lean into his chest. "Where can I go?" I had no one except for Seth and Zeph now. "A nicer part of the city, love. You need to hurry and pack what you don't want to leave behind. I will help you." I nodded and we went inside my crappy apartment. We packed everything and Zeph paid for my last few months’ rent before leaving. We went our separate ways after. I ran to Seth's patrol area. I don't know why, but I needed him too. Please. ~Zephyr's P. O. V.~ No wonder she was crying all last night. Even in her sleep. I know I am a monster but I would never harm an animal or child just go get at a girl who lived with only her dog. I made sure that she was well away from here for what I am about to do to this gang. I had to call Flame Knight, gross. We may share Chloe, even if she didn't know it. But I still hate that hero. We came across each other a while ago. Chloe's picture fell out of my wallet and then we fought until neither of us could move. I unlocked my phone and dialed his number. Ring, ring, ring "Why the f**k are you calling me?!" Grouchy. s**t. "Look, Seth. I am not going to lie that I f*****g hate you. But we have bigger problems than our rivalry. It's Chloe." Hearing him take a deep breath in. "What happened?" "We need to kill a gang from her side of town. They threatened rape in front of me. And they killed her dog." I looked around as men started circling me. "Don't get yourself killed, Zephyr. I'm on my way." I knew that Chloe would go to him, but I wanted to ensure her safety and the only way I could do that is by killing the real dogs around here. We knew she lived in this section of the town, but not about her dog. Why would she keep that from us? I hung up the phone and started counting the men. I counted 30 that surrounded me. "Kyle!" Another man ran up to the dead body. "How f*****g dare you!" The second man looked at me with anger. "How dare I?" I pointed to myself. Smiling at these morons. I waved my hand and planted the seeds of my phantom forest. "You killed a dog that was my girls’ companion." I almost laughed, "How dare I you say?" "Your girl? We have had dibs on Chloe Starveil for years. When she got that mutt, he would bite at us, growl when we got close." Well, companion may have been the wrong word. He was her guard dog. "Yeah, we poisoned the mutt." Said another. "Had to hold him down and force the poison into him." Oh, good. I don't have to hold back in killing these people. My seeds began to grow. The phantoms of the past were starting to gather. All they need is a few more moments. "I see. So you could what? Rape her? Hurt her?" I laughed maniacally. "Gentlemen. She would have killed each of you." I ended my laughter and deadpanned them. They began laughing at me as if I didn't know my girlfriend. I am certain that she would have killed that man herself but she had enough death on her hands for tonight. Me? I'm just getting started. "Call it consensual non-con." The one in the front said. "Call it what you will, rape is still rape. And next to pedophiles, you should be killed off." Come one, Seth. I can't hold them forever. My seeds began to turn into trees made of rotten wood and dark mists. The leaves were so decayed that they turned purple. This caught the gang off guard as they sprouted in an instant. The howls of ghouls, zombies and other creatures that were of the dead variety echoed. "W-What the f**k?!" I heard their hearts quicken. "The hell is this?!" I began laughing again as I retreated into the mist. "It's exactly that. Hell." I responded. "Prepare to die, gents. You pissed off the wrong people." Just then, I heard the puncture of flesh as a sword made of fire entered my field. I can't let him do all the work. I touched a tree next to me and pound some that were close. "Where the f**k is he?!" One called out. "I don't know! I can't see a thing!" Gottcha! I heard their screams as branches pierced their hearts. Killing 7 of them. Another 3 were taken down by Seth. 11 down, 19 to go. We may hate each other, but I cannot deny that we make a good team. Too bad he's a goodie two-shoes. Footsteps coming towards me as guns were going off. I used my branches to kill those 4 as well. 15. The gasps and bodies hitting the floor told me that Seth took down 6 more of them. 9. "We're getting killed out here!" One yelled. "You think I don't see that?!" 2 more for the graves. I used the branches to strangle them. 7. Seth's sword hit 3 more in the head then pulled it back. 4. "Oh, s**t! Jason! Jason, talk to me bro?!" These morons are truly that. Well, since we are down to the finalists, I went behind this man and slit his throat. 3. "Larson! Lars! I'm here!" Seth stabbed this one in the chest. I saw the would be cauterized. 2. "Well, what do you say, Flame Knight? We have 2 contestants left." We came out of the shadows and cornered these two. "No mercy after what I heard." Seth responded. "A-A hero? A-A-And a villain?! Working together?!" This one pissed himself in fear. "Flame Knight? A pro. And this forest... Dark Forest! Oh, hell no! I am not dying here." The one that is trying to run was brought back by myself. "You chose this when you hurt our girl." I answered. "Your..." Before he could say anything, Seth and I ended their miserable lives. "Well, that was fun." Looking to my competition. I smiled in victory. "They deserved it. Where is Chloe?" He asked. "I sent her away. These killers are the reason she was crying last night." I kicked the corpse over and rummaged through the pockets "Crying?" He sounded surprised. "I saw her stealing money yesterday..." We both had a sudden realization. "For her dog." We said in unison.
