A BETRAYAL

As Charlotte walked into the office, she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. She had been noticing strange behavior from her assistant, Emily, for a while now, but she had brushed it off as mere paranoia.

But as she approached her desk, she saw Emily quickly closing her laptop, a guilty look on her face. Charlotte's heart sank as she realized that her suspicions had been correct.

"Emily, what's going on?" Charlotte asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

Emily looked up, a mixture of fear and defiance in her eyes. "I don't know what you're talking about, Charlotte."

But Charlotte was not fooled. She walked over to Emily's desk and saw the email open on her laptop. It was from Williams, and it was clear that Emily had been working with him behind Charlotte's back.

Charlotte felt a wave of anger and betrayal wash over her. How could Emily do this to her? And how could Williams be so deceitful?

She turned to Emily, her voice cold. "You're fired."

Emily looked up, tears in her eyes. "Charlotte, please—"

But Charlotte was unmoved. "Get out."
