Chapter 1
When my so-called plagiarism scandal broke, the entire industry turned against me.
The whole world believed I had stolen from Eugenia, but in truth, she was the thief.
And for her, they decided to destroy me.
I was dragged into an abandoned warehouse, my body hitting the cold concrete floor.
A dozen crazed fans jeered around me.
"You're a fraud!"
"You don’t deserve to sing ever again!"
The first blow shattered my kneecap.
I screamed, my voice breaking.
Then came my hands—one by one, my fingers snapped.
A sharp blade slashed across my throat.
My vision blurred as warm blood poured down my chest.
No… my voice…
Then—darkness.
I woke to the sterile scent of disinfectant and the steady beeping of machines. My throat burned, my limbs felt like dead weight.
A familiar voice broke through the haze. “Janette… you’re awake.”
Luca.
I turned my head slowly.
He sat beside me, eyes red-rimmed, fingers gently holding mine.
His touch was warm, cautious, as if afraid I would break again.
“Luca…” My voice—no, the faint breath leaving my throat—was barely audible.
His body tensed. “Don’t try to talk. You’ve been through too much.”
I blinked, attempting to lift my hand, but it barely twitched. Then I felt it—a weight in my abdomen.
No… my baby…
My breathing quickened, panic setting in.
Luca immediately placed his palm gently over my stomach. “It’s okay, Janette. The baby is fine. You’re eight months now.”
I exhaled shakily, fingers clutching his sleeve. “They… they did this to me.”
Luca’s jaw clenched. “I know. I tried to stop them, but—”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “But you couldn’t, could you?”
Luca lowered his head, pain flickering in his eyes. “Janette, I tried… but I have no power to change their decisions.”
I let out a weak, bitter laugh. “No power? When they decided to sacrifice me and my child, you just stood by and watched?”
Luca flinched as if stabbed. “No! I fought for you! I begged them, but they wouldn’t listen…”
“So you gave up?” I stared at him, my gaze cold. “Luca, you’ve always been like this… weak, spineless. You knew they would hurt me, and you did nothing.”
Luca’s breath hitched, his fingers trembling as they tightened around mine. “Janette, I really—”
The door burst open.
“Janette.”
Eugenia.
She walked in, dressed in soft pastels, her expression full of fake concern. “I’m so glad you’re awake. You gave us such a scare.”
I tried to sit up, but my body refused. I could only glare at her. “You… stole everything.”
She sighed. “You’re still on that? Janette, I don’t want to argue. You need to focus on recovering.”
I forced my fingers into a fist. “Get out.”
Eugenia didn’t move. Instead, she glanced at my stomach, then at Luca. “You should listen to what Mother and Father have decided. It’s for the best.”
Luca stiffened. “Eugenia, don’t—”
“Your umbilical cord blood, Janette. I need it.”
Everything inside me froze.
“You’re insane.” Luca snapped. “She barely survived! And you think—”
“She’s my sister,” Eugenia cut him off smoothly. “If she really cares, she’ll do this for me.”
I looked at her, then at the doorway where my mother and father now stood, silent but expectant.
Luca clenched his jaw, his voice shaking. “Janette owes you nothing!”
Father stepped forward, his gaze cold. “She has no choice.”
Luca turned to me, desperation in his eyes. “Janette, you can’t let them do this to you…”
I let out a soft, hollow laugh, my gaze icy. “Luca, if you really want to help me, stop them.”
Luca’s lips trembled, pain flooding his expression.
He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
Then, finally, he lowered his head.
“I… I can’t…”
I closed my eyes, my heart sinking into a frozen abyss.
Then—
A deep, commanding voice filled the room. “Touch her, and I will end you all.”
The air shifted. Dominance, raw power, and something primal rolled into the space.
Dominic Blackwood.
The Alpha.
The man who ruled the industry’s underbelly with an iron grip.
He stood in the doorway, golden eyes burning with fury.
Eugenia’s smug expression finally faltered. “W-What are you doing here?”
Dominic stepped forward, his eyes locking onto me. “Taking what’s mine.”
Mine?
He reached out, tracing a gloved finger along my broken hand. “You’re my Mate, Janette. They don’t deserve you.”
My heart pounded.
Luca stepped between us. “She’s not some prize to claim, Blackwood.”
Dominic’s gaze flicked to him. “Then why are you still too weak to protect her?”
Luca stiffened, fists clenching. “I did everything I could—”
“And yet, here she lies, broken.”
Silence.
My throat ached, my chest tightened.
Dominic turned back to me, his expression softening. “Janette, come with me.”
My mother gasped. “You can’t take her! She belongs here!”
He smirked. “She belonged to you. But you threw her away.”
Luca looked at me, desperation in his gaze. “Janette, please…”
I stared at them all—the family that had betrayed me, the man who had always been by my side, and the Alpha who now stood between me and my past.
Then I did something none of them expected.
I reached out—and took Dominic’s hand.
