Chapter 1
"Are these people crazy? Marry an old man, as a reward for winning a silly fashion show contest? So what if he's a billionaire? Who does that anyway? And to think he's even about my father's age. Ewww!"
Pinkett murmured out in disgust after she ran away from the fashion show contest as she held her chest and tried to catch her breath. Her heart was beating so fast and sweat dripped down her forehead.
"What do they even think of themselves? What was I even thinking, going there in search of a job in the first place?"
She wondered as her phone rang.
"Who could that be?"
She looked at her phone to see who was calling.
"It's an unknown caller."
She picked up the call and answered
"Hello"
"Hey! Pinkett:"
The caller called out her name trying to tease her.
"Who is this?"
She asked as her eyebrows were raised in shock.
"Just call me a well-wisher."
"Well-wisher?"
She asked, looking confused as she tried to recognize the caller's voice.
"I said, who are you and how did you get my number? How did you know my name?"
She shouted at the caller.
"Hey! Calm down; Relax. One question at a time."
He responded.
"Shut up and don't tell me to calm down! Identify yourself otherwise, I'll hang up! Just tell me who you are?" she screamed as she became irritated by the caller.
"Very well, I just want to tell you that your sister is in my possession right now. If you want to save her life, then you have to pay close attention to me and do as I say. You have to complete a task for me. Don't flop the task I warn you! If you complete this task for me, I promise to release your sister safely. Do you get that?"
He warned her.
"Are you crazy? My sister? This must be a prank call and I don't have time for imbeciles like you. Get the f**k out of my phone i***t!"
She hissed, hung up the call, and continued walking home.
"Gosh! What a day!!! Everyone keeps irritating me today."
She said.
"First, the stupid reward from the stupid fashion show contest, and now, this i***t that calls himself a well-wisher?"
Her phone rang again, and, she cut the call. Then a message entered her phone. Pinkett opened the message and saw a video of her sister tied to a chair, with her mouth covered and struggling to be freed. Then reality sets in and she knew the caller wasn't joking after all.
Her phone rang again, and she picked up the call with a trembling voice
"Tell me what I must do"
She stuttered
"Good girl," he said
"Now you are talking"
"You see, I need you to retrieve some documents for me. These documents are so important that you must guard them with your life and make sure you hand them over to me without flopping the plan"
"Where are these documents and what are they for?" she asked curiously scratching her head with her other hand
"Silence!" he yelled at her with a thunderous voice that made Pinkett fidget and tremble.
"You don't have any right to question me. You don't need to know what the documents are for. Just do exactly as I say and you can have your sister back alive. I'll send you a well-constructed map to guide you on how to locate these documents"
He paused and asked her "Do you understand?"
"Yes I do," she said in a more trembling voice with a racing heartbeat and teary eyes
"Remember, do not involve the police or anyone otherwise, your sister will pay for your costly mistake" he warned her
"No police! I promise. Just send the map and I'll do exactly as you say" she assures him helplessly
He hung up the call and Pinkett raced home in fear. She was almost home when her phone beeped and an image containing a map was sent to her phone.
Later that night, she got up from her bed and started preparing to assume the task.
"This is insane! How does this crazy man expect me to perform this insane task?" she cried out as tears flowed down her cheeks.
She looked into her wardrobe still in tears and ransacked it searching for what to wear
"What do I wear? How do I dress?" She asked as she continued flinging the clothes from her wardrobe to bed
"I guess I will just put on these blue denim trousers and this black hooded sweatshirt along with these black sneakers. After all, it is a cold night."
She said wiping off the tears that kept flowing down her cheeks
"I'll also put on this sunshade when I get to the hotel so no one would see me or try to identify me"
She walked to the dressing mirror to have a glance at how she looked. With a sigh of relief, she sighed heavily as she felt ok with her dressing.
Dressed like a criminal, she sneaked out of her bedroom through her window and headed straight to the location on the map. She was so frightened and tried not to make a sound by tiptoeing her way into the hotel to avoid being caught. She reached for the map and checked for the next clue
"The map says I have to locate an underground safe somewhere very close to where I am now"
"Hmmm!!" She breathes out heavily
" I wonder how long it'll take for me to complete this task tonight" She looked at her wristwatch to know what time it is
"45 mins gone already!?" She exclaimed
"I better hurry up. I can't afford to spend my night out here" she said irritatingly as she spotted the blue mark on the wall just like the clue on the map)
"Thank goodness! I found the blue mark." Her eyes beamed with joy
"That means the underground safe must be somewhere here" She looked at the floor inquisitively searching for the underground safe that had been covered with grass
"Found it at last!" She cried out joyously as she jumped up in excitement but soon remembered she needed to be quiet to avoid being caught
"It's locked! How do I open the lock?" She covered her eyes and forehead with her palm and nodded her head for a moment as an idea popped in
She reached for a tiny pin she used to clip her hair and began to twist it into the lock when suddenly someone gripped her upper arm strongly and stopped her
