The Call at 2:17 A.M.
Mira was half asleep when her phone rang. The sound cut through the silence of her small room like a blade. 2:17 A.M. glowed on the screen. Unknown Number. She almost ignored it. Almost. But something in her chest tightened, as if the call itself was pulling her awake. Slowly, she answered. At first, there was only static. Then a shaky breath. “Don’t… don’t go near the old house,” a man whispered. His voice trembled like he was running out of time. “Under the steps… the key is still there.” Mira sat up immediately. “Who are you? What house are you talking about?” “Listen to me,” he rushed. “They’re watching you now. You answered the call—so they know.” “Hello? This isn’t funny—” A loud crash sounded through the line. Then a heavy silence. “Run,” he said suddenly, voice breaking. “Run before—” The call ended. Mira stared at her phone, heartbeat loud in her ears. “What kind of prank is this?” she whispered. But something felt wrong. Deeply wrong. Her phone screen flickered. Then another notification appeared. Unknown Number calling… She froze. It rang once. Twice. On the third ring, she declined. Silence returned—but only for a moment. A message popped up instead: YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE ANSWERED. Mira’s hands went cold. Outside her window, a car engine started slowly… and stayed there. Watching. She moved closer to the curtain, her breath shallow. The street was empty. Almost empty. Then she saw it. A man standing under the streetlight across the road. Not moving. Looking directly at her window. Her phone rang again. Same unknown number. This time, she didn’t hesitate. She didn’t answer. But the message came anyway: WE CAN STILL HEAR YOU. Mira stepped back from the window. And for the first time in her life… she understood something terrifying. She was no longer alone in her own world.
