Chapter 5 (Contract and Agreement)

I was shocked when I heard his voice. To tell you honestly, his voice sounded familiar to me. His sexy and husky voice makes me wonder if he’s the same person based on his profile. Jacky looked at me and I could see in her expression that she found this guy handsome based on his voice. I was shocked when I saw her smiling while she bit her lips just like she wanted this man. I called Jacky and said,

“Jacky! What the heck are you doing?” I said to her with a poor utterance of my voice so that the other man on the line couldn’t hear us.

“This will be your man, Maddie. I can assure you. You will like him.” Jacky answered me confidently.

But before we asked more about him. Katie grabbed the phone and turned off the speaker and she talked with the man privately. We were shocked when she did that to us. I wanted to ask more about him but it seems that it’s Katie’s job to do job screening so that we can make sure that we will hire the right one to be my driver/assistant/bodyguard. Katie was having a hard time looking for a driver for me because, as she said, I was not looking for a driver. I am looking for a 3 in 1 person. Who can be my driver, assistant, and bodyguard at the same time?

After 15 minutes on the phone, Katie came back to us and she said with assurance in her voice, she looked at me.

“I invited him to come and visit your place this afternoon about the contract. I wanted to talk about the contract personally. This will be your driver. I knew you would like him.”

“How sure that he is the man for this job, Katie. Based on his profile, most jobs are only part-time. He didn’t put any educational background. I can only see that his job experience was being a part-time barista and at the car shop.” I told Katie.

“Oh, I can tell that jobs are all decent, Maddie,” Jacky said.

“I know but I am looking for the best,” I answered her.

“We will know it soon, because we will meet him this afternoon,” Katie answered me, and I know she wanted me to hire this man. But we will find out once he comes to our place for additional screening.

I didn’t know that my boss at the car shop would give me another extra job. He gave my profile to someone who was looking for a driver. They called me and asked me if I was available this afternoon for additional screening and interview. And the lady that I was talking to earlier said that the client, for now, is confidential and she will explain everything personally. She wanted me to visit this address for additional information about the job. At first, I didn’t want to go, but my boss said to give it a shot because this client is big time. He told me that the client would pay me well. In the end, I said yes and I agreed to go to the address that they gave me.

After my job at the car shop, I went to my apartment. The apartment building where I am currently staying is the building that our family developed in California. But the employees who manage this building didn’t know who I was. They didn’t know that I am the son of the Young family who owned this building and developed this area. They only met Claudia during the groundbreaking ceremony in this area. I was still in the special forces when that time happened. I told Claudia to keep my profile secret.

My appointment will be at 2 in the afternoon. I went there 15 minutes before the time. I don’t want to be late. I waited 10 minutes in my car. 5 minutes before that time, I went out of my car and pressed the doorbell outside the gate. I told the security guard that I had an appointment with someone at this address. The security guard went to the intercom to verify the appointment and after 2 minutes, he let me in. He instructed me to go straight because the boss was waiting for me.

The boss? Who will this guy be? That day I wore the usual look. Denim pants, a black t-shirt, my white sneakers, and my Luminox Swiss navy watch. I knocked on the door and someone opened it for me and said,

“Good afternoon, I am Chris. My boss told me that someone wanted to talk to me and he sent me to this address.” I said to the lady who opened the door for me and she looked at me from head to toe and she said,

“Good, I am Katie. I am the one who talked to you earlier on the phone. Come in. I wanted to meet you, your new boss.” She smiled at me and she showed me the way to her boss.

After seven years of service in the special forces, it is now my habit to check the surroundings and the person around me. Look for entry and exit points and other military habits. We went straight to the living room. I saw two women sitting on a sofa and I didn’t expect that the girl who captured my heart a long time ago was there. But wait, will she be my boss? If she is, there will be no question asked. I will accept it immediately. She was wearing denim shorts, a hoodie and a white jacket and her hair looked perfect in a messy look. I can’t believe I met her again. This will be the third time. I knew she didn’t recognize me and I wanted it to stay that way.

On the other sofa. There is this woman who keeps looking at me. At first look, I knew she loved cars because of what she wore and I think this other lady loved sports. She has an athletic body. Then the person who opened the door earlier was the manager, then she introduced herself.

“I am Katie Perce, manager of Madeline Shaw, the girl who is wearing a hoodie jacket and this girl right here is Jacky Grant, Maddie’s best friend.” She introduced me to them and I said,

“Nice meeting you ladies. My name is Chris Morris Young.” I looked at them and smiled.

I was shocked when I saw him. He is so tall. If I am not mistaken, he is 6 feet 2 tall. Clean face, dark brown eyes, perfect jawline for a man, wide shoulders and he looked like he loved doing a workout. His body looks like he is always hitting at the gym and, last but not least, his voice makes me feel weak. I looked at him from head to toe. He’s perfect. He is too simple. I kept looking at him and Jacky noticed that I couldn’t get my eyes on the man standing in front of us.

“Uhm, on earth to Maddie? It looks like you are having a daydreaming girl. So, what’s your decision?” Jacky smiled at me. And she’s making fun of me because I was temporarily out of mind when I saw Chris.

“Well, I can see that he’s fine. He’s the one then. How about you Katie, what do you think?” I asked my manager, who also kept on looking at Chris.

“Okay, let’s make it final. I will talk to him first about the contract. You girls stay here. I need to talk to him first and discuss the contract and agreement. If you will excuse us.”

Katie left us in the living room while she talked to Chris in the office room in my house. He is too good-looking to be a driver. Why is his voice so familiar to me? Then, my best friend was so intrigued by my reaction earlier when I saw the new driver. Jacky asked me,

“I can see that you are mesmerized by his looks, and also you immediately said yes to having him as your driver.”

“I am not mesmerized by his looks. I was just shocked by how different his photo and his real appearance are. He was too clean. It looks like he came from military service because of his hair.” I told Jacky.

“But it’s not on his profile. The only work experience that he has is being a part-time barista and the manager told me that this new guy loves doing part-time only.”

“Maybe, but what took them so long?”

I can’t wait to hear what the new guy decides if he will accept the offer or not.

For the first time, I looked at her face to face. But I don’t have any plans to tell her that we have already met before. I will act just as we just met today. Maddie’s manager, Katie, took me to Maddie’s office and we talked about the contract. The contract will be for 6 months only because that’s what Maddie requested. If she likes the work service, then Maddie can extend the contract. Katie explained to me that Maddie had a bad temper and most of the drivers wouldn’t last for 6 months.

“Don’t worry ma’am, I will do my best to serve Ms. Maddie as her driver” I said confidently with assurance in my voice.

“Maddie is not looking only for a driver. You might be surprised, but I will let you know in advance that your job is not only being a driver, but you will be her assistant who brings her things to work and also you can be her bodyguard at the same time, but mainly your job is being a driver and assistant. She has her own security team, especially if there is an event, but on ordinary days she doesn’t have a bodyguard, then you can be one of her bodyguards while doing your driver's duty.”

Katie told me what my job description was. She also told me that they will pay me more if they find that my service is good. I don’t mind about the pay. I will just make sure that I can do my job well as a driver/assistant and bodyguard for Madeline Shaw. Katie gave me the contract. I read the contract and after reading it, I signed it. My job will start tomorrow and I will stay in the driver’s quarter at Madeline's house. I have had a crush on her since I met her. She captured my heart, but I know our relationship now is all about work.

After talking about the contract, we went back to the living room and Katie told Maddie and Jacky that I am now officially hired and my job would start tomorrow.

“It’s final. He will be your driver from now on, Maddie. He will start tomorrow. I had already told him about his job. Don’t worry about it. I have already explained everything. There is one thing I asked from you, Maddie,” Katie said.

“What is it?” Maddie asked Katie.

“Please let this guy do his job until the contract expires. His contract is only 6 months and I hope this will be your driver because it’s not easy to look for a driver based on your standards, Okay?”

“Let’s see how long he will last for this job,” Maddie answered Katie.

It feels like she has the looks, but it will be challenging when it comes to her attitude. Katie told me earlier that most of the drivers wouldn’t last because of Madeline’s bad temper. I hope I can manage that. Then I said to them,

“Thank you so much for this opportunity that you gave me, ma’am. I will make sure that I will do my best to be your driver.”

“I hope so,” Maddie answered me sarcastically.

After that conversation, I left her house and I went back inside my car and headed home. I need to buy things that I need for this job. My job is not only as a driver, but I will be an assistant and also sometimes a bodyguard for her. I think I will just enjoy this job while I am still in California. This is just a 6-month contract. Just 6 months. After that, I will be back in Singapore as I have promised my family that I would be back after a year.

I don’t need to bring a lot of things. I needed to make sure that I would hide my identity. I don’t want them to know who I am. Well, they knew my name was Chris Morrison. I think this will be a little bit challenging for me, but I know I can do it perfectly.
