Prologue
"Lillian?" I whispered stunned. I hadn't seen her in a little over five years. Just before her eighteenth birthday. She was holding a toddler, and I was more shocked. I knew she was my destined mate, but if that were the case then how did she already have a toddler?
"Maybe it isn't hers." Kanos said in the back of my head. "Maybe it's just a relatives." He tried to console.
"Yeah, maybe." I replied. Even in my own thoughts I sounded too hopeful.
"Robert?" She squeaked as she turned around. She tightened her grip on the child in her arms.
"Lily Bug? I-is it really you?" I croaked, unable to believe my own eyes.
"Yes." She replied. I put my arms up to give her a hug, but she backed away so quickly I didn't know how to react.
"Who is this little one?" I asked already knowing the answer, but wanting to hear her confirm it.
"This is EverLeigh Grace," she responded timidly, "my daughter." I could see the look of fear on her face when she answered fully.
"Hello EverLeigh Grace," I turned towards the toddler, to engage with her. I was about to reach my hand out to shake hers when all of the sudden I am being pushed away.
"PLEASE DON'T HURT HER OR ME ROBERT! IT'S NOT HER FAULT SHE IS HERE!" Lily screamed crying hysterically.
"Lily May? What are you talking about?" I asked completely dumbfounded by her outburst. "She's barely a pup!" I stated matter of factly.
"Because Robert..." she whispered, "she's my daughter." She started sobbing. I watched as EverLeigh tried to console her mother.
"Bad man!" The young pup in her arms started screaming at me. I was just awestruck by her voice she sounded like an angel even in her young age her voice rang like the heavens. It was in that moment I realized it didn't matter how EverLeigh got here I loved her no matter what she is mine now, and that's all I need to know.
