Chapter 1: The Girl by the Water Barrel
Kevin Tyre went to New York Village to get away from the city he was tired of working all the time. His assistant told him to take a break from work before he got too tired. Kevin Tyre did not want anything. He just wanted to be quiet. He stayed in a hotel called Travelhotel. It was a place with walls and nice people. Kevin Tyre did not tell anyone where he was. The day Kevin Tyre stayed in his room. Slept. He had not slept well in a time. Kevin Tyre was feeling really tired. The day Kevin Tyre decided to go for a walk. The village was small with roads and low houses. There were chickens walking around and old men sitting outside their houses. Kevin Tyre liked it. Nobody knew who Kevin Tyre was. Nobody wanted anything from Kevin Tyre. Kevin Tyre was walking when he heard someone crying. It was a cry. He saw a young woman sitting on the ground near a water barrel. She was crying into her arms. Kevin Tyre looked at her. He asked her if she was okay with a calm voice . She looked up. Quickly wiped her face. She tried to smile. Kevin Tyre could see she was not happy. The womans name was Carrot Hael. Kevin Tyre told her his name. They talked for a bit. Then Carrot Hael went back to her house. Kevin Tyre saw her again that evening. He saw a man hitting her with a stick. Kevin Tyre wanted to stop him. He did not. He was afraid of making things worse for Carrot Hael. Kevin Tyre could not sleep that night. He thought about Carrot Hael and what he saw. He wondered why Carrot Haels parents were so mean to her. Kevin Tyre did not know what to do. The morning Kevin Tyre woke up and decided to learn more about Carrot Hael. He asked people in the village about Carrot Hael. They told him that Carrot Haels parents were mean to her. They all wanted to marry her off to a strangers, who would pay them money. Kevin Tyre did not like this. Kevin Tyre went to Carrot Haels house. Told her parents that he wanted to marry her. They were happy because they thought they could get a lot of money from Kevin Tyre. Kevin Tyre gave them a card with a lot of money on it. They took the card. Gave Carrot Hael to him. Kevin Tyre took Carrot Hael to the hotel. Cleaned her wounds. He was very gentle with Carrot Hael. Carrot Hael asked him why he was doing this. Kevin Tyre did not know what to say. He just knew he wanted to help Carrot Hael. Kevin Tyre looked at Carrot Hael. Saw a sad person. He wanted to make Carrot Hael happy. He wanted to take care of Carrot Hael. Kevin Tyre thought about his life. How he was always working. He thought about how he was alone. He wanted to change this. He wanted to be with Carrot Hael. Carrot Hael was very weak and tired. Kevin Tyre took care of her. Made her feel safe. He did not know what would happen next. He knew he wanted to be with Carrot Hael. Kevin Tyre felt something for Carrot Hael that he had not felt in a time. He felt like he wanted to protect Carrot Hael. Kevin Tyre looked at Carrot Hael. She looked back at him. He saw a lot of sadness in her eyes. He also saw a bit of hope. Kevin Tyre smiled at her. She smiled back. It was a smile. It was a start. Kevin Tyre thought about what he would do. He would take care of Carrot Hael. Make sure she was safe. He would make sure her parents could not hurt her again. Kevin Tyre felt a sense of purpose that he had not felt in a time. He was going to help Carrot Hael and make her happy. He said to her "I saw you crying that night. Then I saw what happened to you after that. I could not stop thinking about it. I could not stop thinking about you, Carrot Hael." He looked up. Met Carrot Haels eyes. "I know this is strange. I know you do not know me, Carrot Hael. I want to help you, Carrot Hael. Not because I feel sorry for you Carrot Hael. Because somewhere between yesterday and today I started caring about what happens to you Carrot Hael." Carrot Haels eyes got all teary. This time she did not try to hide them. "Nobody has ever said something like that to me before" she said. Kevin Tyre said softly "Then I am glad I could be the person to say that to you Carrot Hael." She reached out. Put her arms around him. Buried her face against his shoulder. She cried. Not because she was hurt this time. She cried because she felt something she had never felt before. It felt like someone wanted her for who she was not just because they wanted something from her or use her Kevin Tyre held her gently with one hand on her back. He let her cry for long as she needed to Carrot Hael. She whispered, "Why do I feel safe with you, Kevin Tyre?" She still did not let go of him. Kevin Tyre said quietly "Maybe it is because for once someone is not asking you for anything, in return Carrot Hael.”
