CHAPTER ONE: SCARS DON'T LIE.
Trying to avoid the car which was chasing her down the bumpy road path, she cling onto her stomach holding onto her bump like her life depends on it, trying to run as fast as her heavy legs could carry her, she screamed for help but she was in a designated area filled with bushes and trees, it would take a miracle for someone to hear a cry for help.
The screeching sound of the car crushing the branches on the ground, made her skin crawl with instant panic attack, and the fear of being caught by someone she ones loved, someone that made her wished she could live forever so she could always be with him, someone she thought she knew well but apparently not well enough.
She thought to herself thinking it would be her last.
She could feel her heart beating through her chest, sweat dripping furiously down her face, trying to grasp for air due to the exhaustion, her feet sore from running through the damp thick bushes.
“Stop running from me Anna you have what belongs to me, just give me what's mine”
He spoke with an absurd voice followed by a dark tone.
“If I can't have you no one can”
He steps hard on the brakes causing the car to run head first into a ditch that was covered with dry leaves.
She managed to run to an open field where the car misses her by just a foot long.
Landing hard on her stomach, the excruciating pain she felt made her cry out loud something she never thought she would experience and wished on no one.
She looked down and all she could see was blood.
“No my baby!!!!!”
She screamed frantically, using her last muscle strength.
It felt as if the world was in a pause and she was halt in a stand still unable to move but could feel every ounce of pain, everything around her felt slow and blurry.
The loud sound of the car crashing altered some people around who ran to the incident and immediately called an ambulance.
She could feel her heart beating through her chest.
She felt pains she couldn't explain.
“This is it, he finally got what he wanted. To see me suffer”
The thought of never seeing daylight again engulfed her like a dark void.
Hot tears streamed down her face as she recollected the last words she heard him say.
“If I can't have you no one will”
And everything went black.
Four months later, the sound of the computer beeping could be heard from where Anna laid almost as if she just woke up from a long nap.
“She’s awake…
She's awake”
The voice sounded sharp and loud mixed with excitement and relief.
Standing by her bed side glimpse with joy plastered all over her face. Stood a young lady looking in her almost late twenties, with a home body, dressed in plain blue jeans and a sweatshirt with short black hair and brown eyes that lit up at the sight of seeing Anna.
She looked exhausted and tired like she hadn't slept for days. She had a saggy eye due to inadequate sleep. She looked like she been crying but was hidden with a smile of relief and mixed emotions.
Joy and Anna have been friends since childhood, they basically grew up together and stayed with each other even during their college days, till finally Anna moved out after college to be with her fiancè who now happens to be her ex.
Joy has always kept in touch with Anna; she was more than a best friend; they were practically sisters from different mothers.
Anna had an amazing childhood brought up by her loving parents who showered her with love and attention and since she was the only child she got a lot of attention from them. Anna's parents were deeply in love with each other; they never missed a chance to show off their love for one another at any opportunity they got. Anna dreamt of a love just like her parents. But as life may have it, you don't always get what you wish for.
Anna's parents had died in a car accident on their way to a dinner date to mark their 20th wedding anniversary.
Anna got the devastating news of her parents passing while still in college.
That was how she got to live with her best friend’s parents. Who never treated her less and treated her like their own. Joy and Anna became inseparable ever since and promised to stick with each other no matter what the circumstances may be.
The doctor came in afterwards….
“Anna, can you hear me?”
He asked in a concerned and low voice barely a whisper.
“Yes, yes I can doctor”
“What happened?”
“Is my baby okay?”
The doctor exchanges a glance at joy, taking a deep breath considering his next words carefully before turning to Anna…
“I'm sorry Anna, we tried everything we could to save the baby but we couldn't. The impact you made on the ground was intense and it altered your uterus, causing damage in your womb which made keeping the baby alive merely impossible. You have been in a coma for four months now. It's a miracle you're still alive due to the complications you had during surgery. But I'm afraid you may not be able to bear children, due to the damage on your womb”.
Those words pierced through Anna like a raging bull coming out on its prey.
Once again the world felt still but her head kept spinning like a ball thrown out in heights.
She couldn't comprehend what she had just heard, she felt as if she was in a dream but couldn't wake up, like she was in a sleep paralysis.
but had to live through the nightmares of being stuck there. She felt her limbs go numb lost in sight and touch could barely feel alive.
The only purpose of life was gone, what was there to live on to, her life was over even before it started, there was no going back.
He had won once again, she thought of the last thing she heard him say.
“If I can't have you on one can”
Again she thought about the trauma she has been through, the toxic relationship with her ex who used and drained her emotionally, physically and mentally.
He had always had her warped around his finger tips, controlled her every move cause he knew how alone and vulnerable she was. Manipulated and gaslighted her into thinking she should be grateful she had him that no man would ever look at her. She never stood up for herself even if she tried to make sure she regrets it. She has been through hell having to cope and live with him, only for her to make the big decision of running away, she couldn't raise her child with a monster like him. Took her years to finally take a stand and a limp of faith not minding being a single mother for her child. But all that had led to this predicament she had found herself in.
“I can't let him win”
She thought to herself….
I can't let all those years of pain and sorrows go to waste.
I can't let my story end like this. I have to push through. I have to be strong. I can't just give up and remain miserable all my life. I have to make something out of it, I have to make something of my life.
I rather die trying than to die not trying at all.
