1017 Words
Nneoma's mind was racing as she tried to come up with a plan to escape Chike's mansion. She knew she couldn't stay there any longer, not after what Nnenna had told her. Nnenna seemed to sense her thoughts. “We need to get you out of there," Nneoma said. Chike's not what he seems. Nneoma nodded, determination etched on her face.” I know. I want to get out. Nnenna smiled, a hint of mischief in her eyes. “I've been watching the mansion's security." I think I can get you out undetected.” Nneoma's heart skipped a bit as Nnenna outlined her plan. They would sneak out through the garden, avoiding the guards and cameras. From there, they would make their way to Nnenna’s car and drive to a safe location. But as they finalized the plan, Nneoma's phone buzzed again. It was Chike asking her to meet him in the living room. Nneoma's heart sank, she knew she had to stall him. “I'll be right there," she replied, trying to sound calm. Nnenna nodded." Let's go, we need to move fast.” Nneoma took a deep breath and followed Nnenna out of the apartment. They made their way back to the mansion, trying to blend in with the surroundings. As they approached the garden, Nnenna gave Nneoma a nod.” Ready?” Nneoma nodded, her heart pounding in her chest, they slipped into the garden, avoiding the guards and cameras. Nneoma felt a rush of adrenaline as they made their way to the wall. As they reached the wall, Nnenna expertly scaled it, motioning for Nneoma to follow. Nneoma's heart was racing, but she trusted Nnenna's plan. She climbed up, her hands finding holes in the stone, and Nnenna pulled her over the top. They landed softly on the other side, Nnenna's car waiting for them in the shadows. Nneoma felt a surge of relief as Nnenna unlocked the doors and they slipped inside. "Get down," Nnenna whispered, as they pulled out of the parking spot. "We don't know if Chike has anyone watching the roads." Nneoma ducked down, her heart still racing from the adrenaline. She listened as Nnenna navigated the streets, her voice calm and steady as she gave directions. After what felt like an eternity, Nnenna finally spoke up. "We're clear," she said. "We can head to the safe house now." Nneoma sat up, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. They were in a quiet neighborhood, the houses spaced far apart. Nnenna pulled up to a small bungalow, the door opening to reveal a warm and welcoming interior. Nneoma felt a sense of relief wash over her as she stepped inside. She was finally safe, finally free from Chike's grasp. But as she looked at Nnenna, she saw a hint of worry in her eyes. "What's wrong?" Nneoma asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Nnenna hesitated, her eyes darting around the room. "I didn't tell you everything," she said. "About Chike, about why I'm helping you." Nneoma's curiosity was piqued. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice filled with anticipation. Nnenna took a deep breath, her eyes locked on Nneoma's. "Chike's not just any ordinary man," she said. "He's connected to something much bigger, something that could put you in grave danger." Nneoma's heart sank, her mind racing with questions. What did Nnenna mean? What was Chike involved in? And why was Nnenna helping her? As she looked at Nnenna, she saw determination in her eyes. Nnenna was going to tell her everything, and Nneoma was ready to listen. But just as Nnenna began to speak, a loud noise echoed outside. The sound of footsteps, heavy and deliberate, coming from the back of the house. Nneoma's heart skipped a beat. "What is that?" she whispered, her eyes locked on Nnenna's. Nnenna's face went pale. "I think we've been found," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. And with that, the lights in the house flickered and died, plunging them into darkness. Nneoma's heart was racing as she listened to the sound of footsteps getting closer. She could hear the creaking of the old wooden floorboards beneath someone's feet. Nnenna grabbed her hand, pulling her towards the back of the house. "We need to get out of here, now," Nnenna whispered, her voice urgent. They moved quickly, trying to find a way out. But the darkness made it difficult to see. Nneoma stumbled, her foot catching on something, and Nnenna caught her. "Shh," Nnenna said, her voice soft. "Stay quiet." They reached the back door, and Nnenna slowly turned the handle. The sound of footsteps was getting closer, and Nneoma could feel her heart pounding in her chest. As they slipped out into the night, Nneoma saw a figure emerging from the shadows. She gasped, but Nnenna pulled her forward. "Run," Nnenna whispered, her voice barely audible. They sprinted across the yard, the darkness swallowing them whole. Nneoma's heart was racing, and she could feel Nnenna's hand gripping hers tightly. As they reached the fence, Nnenna helped Nneoma over, and they dropped on the other side. They didn't stop running until they were blocks away from the safe house. Finally, Nnenna slowed down, and they walked, trying to catch their breath. Nneoma looked at Nnenna, her eyes adjusting to the darkness. "Who was that?" Nneoma asked, her voice barely in a whisper. Nnenna's face was set in a determined expression. "I'm not sure," she said. "But I think it's time we found out." Nneoma nodded, her heart still racing from the adrenaline. She knew she had to trust Nnenna, and together, they would uncover the truth about Chike and the danger that seemed to be closing in around them. As they walked, Nneoma's phone suddenly buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out, and her heart sank. It was a text from an unknown number. "You're not safe yet," the message read. "They're still looking for you." Nneoma's eyes locked onto Nnenna's, a sense of fear creeping in. Who was behind the message? And what did they want from her?
