At the time when 'Moon eyes' revealed Smirder to Garsaw via the small ritual, Smirder thought she heard voices in her head.
It was difficult for her to come to terms with it at first, but after it continued for a while, she was sure she heard her name being called upon a couple of times, but from who exactly?
''Mom, have you been calling me?' Smirder asked. She sat up from the nap she had been having beside her mother when the voices started to beckon to her.
''No,'' her mother replied, looking at Smirder with avid concern.
Her mother wondered while she observed Smirder, that there was not a single person around them in and out of the house, so how could Smirder have been hearing her name being called? Except, of course, it was the obvious.
Smirder's mom, being an older she-wolf, understood what Smirder might have just experienced and started to interrogate her daughter.
''Could you make out any faces?'' she asked Smirder.
''No,'' Smirder replied warily.
'''How many times was your name being called, and was it more than one voice?'' Smirder's mom asked.
''It was actually just one familiar voice, though I can't place a finger around whose it might have been, and then the person asked me what I was doing there...'' Smirder said, stuttering in confusion.
''Doing where?'' her mother asked, looking at Smirder deep in her eyes, as if she was searching for the answers she needed in Smirder's eyes.
Smirder shrugged.
''I don't know mom, it must have just been a weird dream,'' Smirder replied, lying back down to continue her nap.
Smirder's mom looked away from her daughter and smiled graciously, silently thanking the moon for considering her daughter, Smirder, worthy enough to be allocated a mate.
She knew for a fact that 'Moon eyes' had led Smirder's mate to find her, and it was always the joy of the parents of a she-wolf to know that their daughter, as soon as she had become of age, would surely have a mate. The moon had acted on this at the appointed time.
It was a norm for the parents of a she-wolf that had recently been bound to a mate, not to reveal to their daughter about the fact that her mate had seen her.
They were to leave their daughter ignorant of the fact until the male wolf approached her by himself to start courting her.
This was so because, in the historical past, she-wolves usually became desperate to meet their so-called mates when they realized that the experience they had, which was similar to the one Smirder just had, was their mate finding them out for the first time and yelling out their name in fear and confusion as to why they were seeing them during the ritual.
These she-wolves started out on a hunt for who it was, thus falling victim to the ploy of other cunning male wolves who took advantage of the fact that these females were looking for their mates, and violated them, hereby making the official mating and kindling of their affair with their real mate null.
Smirder got up from her nap shortly after.
She couldn't go back to bed anymore no matter how hard she tried to make it happen.
She sat back up and watched her mother knit away at the sweater she was holding with a buoyant smile on her face.
''Is there something making you this happy mom?'' Smirder asked.
Her mother giggled in surprise, she was so blown away by the fact that she knew her daughter's mate had found her, that she didn't know when Smirder woke up again and was staring at her.
''Sneaky beauty, you are up again,'' her mom asked her, ''any new weird dreams?'' her mom added cheeringly.
Smirder shot her mother a ridiculous look and went outside for some air, she continued to stare at her mom while she walked past her, and wondered what on earth had suddenly given her mom so much joy.
But whatever it was, Smirder thought, at least her mom was smiling.
Smirder's dad had died during an attack by a rival pack.
It had been months ago and Smirder's mom had hardly ever smiled or laughed since the incident happened.
Now, for whatever reason there was under the moon, her mom was smiling. She thought it was a welcome development, and it didn't exactly bother her what the reason was that made her mom that happy.
''At least you are smiling,'' Smirder said before she stepped outside.
It was a windy evening.
Smirder's dark brown fur gyrated against the gust of wind that blew on her face as soon as she stepped out of the house.
''Today is turning out really weird,'' she said to herself while she started towards the pack's center.
There, her friends would definitely be there gossiping about the hottest male around, and other topics of discussion they considered worth their time.
Smirder thought of how excited they would be when she told them about her supposed dream.
She started to strut towards the small crowd of wolves she saw playing at the center.
The wind had driven a couple of them inside their houses, but some brave ones remained outside to play with the wind, there she sighted her friends.
''The usual suspects,'' Smirder muttered while she started towards them.
Of course, they would definitely be out in this sort of remarkable weather.
The only other wolves that were out playing in the windy weather apart from Smirder's friends, were the male wolves they gushed about. Her friends were already busy admiring the male wolves and showing themselves off to them when Smirder showed up.
''When will you ever stop being a w***e?'' Smirder asked her friend Kayla.
Kayla was the leader of the group of them, she was the most outspoken, and the one everyone thought would first find her mate because of how particular she was about keeping up to standard 'so that the moon would notice her availability.'
''Nothing wrong in admiring handsome males playing in the wind Smirder, loosen up' Kayla replied.
