Chapter 001
Evelyn POV I woke up into complete darkness. Believe me when I say that's the last thing you'd want when you can't even remember your name. It was dark and moist in here and I could not feel my body. I felt numb and weak. I wanted to tremble but I couldn't. So, I did the thing I thought would be the smartest thing to do in this situation. I tried getting up. Emphasis of tried coz I only banged my head hard on what felt like wood and fell back. "Ow." That could've hurt more but my head was numb as if I've been lying down in this hell hole for a pretty long time. O, I decided to do the next thing the came into my mind. I tried processing my surroundings. Levi Joanne. "What?" I asked the voice in my head, as if it'll answer. Levi Joanne. The word was stuck in my head. Who is he? I asked myself and paused. How do I know it's a he? That's when everything came back. I remembered. I remembered who I was, my parents and my life. I remember my face and my name. Evelyn Avery. I remembered faces; with and without names. I remembered him. Levi. Tall, dark brown hair, ocean blue eyes. It was weird how I couldn't remember anything as clearly as I remembered Levi. I remembered who he was, my best friend. I remembered the memories I had with him. Well most of them... I didn't remember how out friendship started. That's when I realise that in everything I remembered, there were chunks and pieces missing. My story seemed unfinished and empty. So, technically, I remembered everything yet nothing. No details of anything. That's when something popped in my mind. How did I even get here? The last thing I remember is heading home. So where am I?            As my mind flooded with questions, something moved above me. I started to panic, my breathe quickening and heart beating faster. I mentally prepared myself for the worst that could happen, knowing that if someone is planning to murder me, it will work because I do NOT have any defenses of my own. Then, what seemed like a wooden lid, was taken off from above. It took me sometime to adjust my eyes and when they did, I saw the night sky. A purplish really deep navy blue shade with a hint of orange in it. Full of countless stars and galaxies. It was beautiful and breathtaking. You don't really see this type of sky these days that often. I managed to sit up in what seemed like a box I was in. A slow wind was blowing as I deeply sighed. I looked around to spot and thank the person who let me out, but there was no one. All I could see were graves. Graves. Wait... GRAVES!? My mindstarted overflowing with questions and panic once again, but this time the difference was that there wasn't a beautiful night sky to distract my thoughts. What am I doing in a cemetery? I jolted upwards and stumbled forward, losing my balance and almost falling down. Once I gained my balance back. I slowly turned around. My legs trembled and my breath hitched. My eyes wide open and I read what was written on a stone, moonlight shining on it making it readable.                            Evelyn Avery                           22nd -June 1999 - 24-May 2020 Disbelieved of what I was reading right there, I tried to console myself by saying that it's just a stupid prank or something. But deep down inside, I had a feeling that it wasn't. I looked at my shaky hands and touched my arms, everything felt normal, so I could not be dead. It seemed real. I looked around the cemetery and slowly walked. Leaves crushed underneath my bare feet. I walked forward looking at opened graves; some looked new or not that old, while others looked very old with ivy growing in them. Some on the other hand, were looking like minerals. I felt shiver creeping down my spine as I walked forward. On the end of the graveyard there saw a small puddle of water which acted like a small... Barrier between the graveyard and the forest ahead. Looking at the puddle, I realised how thirsty and hungry I was. I kneeled down and saw my reflection. Long red hair, fair smooth skin with freckles. A long white dress. My eyes were shining green. I looked like I was twenty, which I was. I cupped my hands and drank the water. I stood up again. Am I seriously dead? I proceeded to walk further and saw lights shining in a distance. On seeing that, my legs started to carry me faster as I ran. That was the first time in the night I actually felt fear. I felt something running after me, a shadow. I wanted nothing but to go home, to mom and dad. Before I knew it, I was in a middle of a crowd. Talks and laughs overlapping with the sound of footsteps in every direction. I started panicking. My minds flooded with questions as I covered my ears. My legs gave up on me and I sat down, curling into a ball. Tears filled my eyes as my head banged with unbearable pain. Everything started to dissolve in as I started to loose conscious. Everything seemed so overwhelming. I started to miss my family, but why all of the sudden? That is when someone put their hand on my shoulder. I looked up and saw a girl, a young girl. She looked like she was eight. Her blonde hair tied up into a neat bun. She wore a long red dress and oh was she pretty with her hazel eyes. She smiled at me. "Come on, Miss. I shall take you to our house. You must be new here." She had an English accent. I slowly stood up as the girl held my hand and led me through the crowd. Me, still in shock, couldn't process anything.                                    "My name is Grace. Grace Lincoln." The girl said in a soft voice. "H-hello, Grace. I-I-" I sighed and cleared my throat. After a pause, I finally managed to speak. "I'm Evelyn Avery." "Ah! Such a splendid name! It's as beautiful as you are, Ms. Avery!" She exclaimed cheerfully. I chuckled. Such a sweet kid. "Thank you. And please, call me Eve." "Well, Ms. Evelyn. We have reached our destination!" Mary said, excited.                 "Woah." We reached a huge house, more like a mansion. It was beautiful, coloured in peach and red. Orange and white lights shined proudly, illuminating the mansion. Grace led me quietly through a garden. It was big and there were scents of roses and Jasmines. The garden looked recently mowed. There was a well on the left side in a plain area and on the other side, there were tall trees. I reached the steps. There were only four steps before we reached the door. Grace opened them and my jaw dropped. There was a huge chandelier hanging with a wall. It was big. BIG! The stairs were divided into two sections leading upwards. "At this hour, my mom and Mrs. Kim are out shopping. So let me show you around." She said and started skipping around. I laughed and followed into a huge dinning area. "This is the dinning room. It's where we eat. And right with it is the kitchen. That is where all the cookies are." She said pointing at a top drawer. "Don't tell mom but I sneak here every night to eat cookies." She whispered. "I won't." I laughed. Grace giggled and proceeded. "This is.... just a random room that mom likes to keep locked. None of us knows what's in it." She said in a rather disappointing tone, pointing at a door right with the left stair case. "Anyways. Let's go up!" Oh god, how can someone be as cheery as Grace? She led me upstairs to the left first. "This is the terrace, mom likes to come here and write some days. It gives a beautiful scenery in the morning at the c***k of dawn. You see those mountains?" She said pointing at the mountains far away. "Yes. What about them?" "That is where the sun rises. It's just perfect." I smiled at the thought. Then she led me to the right side. "This is my room." She showed me a room. It was all pink, a lot of stuffed toys and a huge doll house with a hand full of small dolls. "And that is Asher's!" She said leading me to the door in front of her room. "Asher?" "Oh he's my brother. He's out practicing the violin. He's twenty." She explained. "Oh." This room was a mixture of brown and black woody furniture. It LOOKED like a boys room. "This is my mom's and that is Ms. Kim's!" She said pointing at two closed door. "And this." She said leading me to the last door. "Is your room." "Wait... M-my room?" I asked. "Yes, we've been expecting you, Ms. Evelyn. You can rest for now. Mom will be home soon. Dinner will be served at 8 by Mr. Roman. He don't live here, he live with his mother just a few blocks down. He'll be here in any moment now. We'll expect you downstairs at the diner." She said and smiled. "Nice meeting you, Eve." She said and ran downstairs.                 'We've been expecting you.' Those words lingered in my mind. It sent shivers down my spine. I pushed it aside, for now. I went inside and my jaw dropped once again. It was my room. MY room! The same exact room I had in my apartment. The setting, the exact same. My guitar in one corner, my bed. I looked at the closet. My clothes. But how? I hurried towards the dressing table and opened a drawer. My.... necklace. I was relieved that it was there. Slowly, I closed it again. Once again questions ran across my mind. Looking at all of this convinced me that it was indeed some sort of prank. But how long can a plan go on for? I went inside the bathroom and took a shower. Everything was the same and felt comfortable. I wanted to wear something casual, like jeans and shirt, but something told me that I would want to wear a dress for today. And I did. A long white dress. It was simple. I don't even remember having dresses in my closet. I put on my necklace and brushed my long, wavy, red hair, letting them down. There was my annoying alarm clock on my table alongside the bed and it read 7:49 pm. I still have ten minutes so reading would be pleasant. I opened the drawer of the table and there were my books, the same sequence I left them. I picked out one that I was reading, the book mark was in it. Chuckling, I sat on my bed and set an alarm for 8 and started reading. While reading I couldn't really concentrate because on the back of my head I kept thinking if it was all even real. If it was real, then something told me that this life won't be that bad, but that doesn't mean it won't be as mysterious as it is now. Something else told me that..... I won't be staying here for long.
