Chapter 1: Unraveled Emotions
Present Day Eloise Chan had spared no expense for her birthday celebration. The newly opened, exclusive restaurant in the heart of the city was the talk of the town, and she had secured the VIP room for her event. The room was filled with friends, family, and a few influential figures, all mingling under the soft glow of the elegant ambience. The night was perfect—or at least, it should have been. Rey King sat at the edge of the gathering, nursing his drink as the laughter and chatter around him grew louder. He had been trying to be present, to focus on Eloise and the evening she had meticulously planned, but his mind kept drifting. The tension between them had been palpable since their last conversation, and no matter how much he tried to shake it, it lingered like a dark cloud. As the party reached its peak, Rey glanced out of the large windows that overlooked the valet area. He saw a sleek car pull up, catching his attention. A man stepped out—a familiar build that made Rey sit up straighter. It was Ethan Madrigal. Rey’s eyes narrowed as he watched Ethan walk around the car to assist a woman who stepped out, her small black dress catching the light. Rey felt a surge of relief. I knew it, he thought. Ethan isn’t who he says he is. He’s playing Cathy, and now he’s here with someone else. But that relief turned to shock when the woman turned, giving Rey a clear view of her face. It was Cathy, his ex-wife. Rey’s heart pounded in his chest as he watched Ethan and Cathy enter the restaurant, completely unaware of his gaze. His relief was shattered, replaced by a whirlwind of confusion and anger. Rey couldn’t focus on the party anymore. The sight of Cathy with another man—especially Ethan—gnawed at him. He downed his drink, trying to drown the storm of emotions swirling inside him. But it was no use. The more he drank, the more his thoughts spiraled out of control. Eloise noticed his distraction, her smile faltering as she approached him. “Rey, are you okay? You’ve been quiet all night.” Rey forced a smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Yeah, yeah. Of course!” Eloise frowned, sensing something was off, but she didn’t push further. “Alright. Just try to enjoy the night, okay? It’s my birthday, after all.” Rey nodded absently as Eloise walked away, rejoining her guests. But his mind was elsewhere, fixated on Cathy and Ethan. The more he thought about it, the more he couldn’t stand the idea of them together. He wasn’t even sure why it bothered him so much, but the feeling was undeniable. Hours later, as the party began to wind down, Rey couldn’t take it anymore. Fueled by a mix of alcohol and unresolved emotions, he left the VIP room and headed to the part of the restaurant where Ethan and Cathy were possibly dining. When he arrived, he scanned the area, his eyes locking onto Ethan sitting at a table. But Cathy was nowhere to be seen. Rey’s gaze darted around until he noticed a sign for the powder room. Without thinking, he made his way there, his heart pounding with a mix of anger and anticipation. Cathy was just leaving the powder room when she saw Rey standing in the hallway. She froze, her eyes widening in surprise. “Rey? What are you doing here?” Rey didn’t answer. Instead, he grabbed her arm and pushed her back into the powder room, locking the door behind him. Cathy’s heart raced as she stared at him, shocked by his behavior. “What the hell, Rey? Let me out!” Cathy demanded, her voice low yet trembling with anger and fear. “Not until we talk,” Rey said, his voice slurred but filled with determination. “What are you doing here with him, Cathy?” Cathy glared at him, her own anger rising. “That’s none of your business! You… you don’t get to question me about my life anymore. You made that clear a long time ago.” Rey’s eyes darkened, his grip on her arm tightening. “You think I don’t care? Seeing you with him… it’s not right, Cathy. He’s no good for you.” Cathy yanked her arm free, her voice shaking with fury. “And who are you to decide what’s right for me? You have no say in my life, Rey. You lost that right when you chose to hate me.” Rey’s emotions boiled over, and before he could stop himself, he cornered Cathy against the wall. “Yes, I hate you? Yes, I don’t care? But that was before…” His voice was rough, filled with frustration and something else—something raw and unspoken. Cathy’s breath caught in her throat as Rey leaned in, his face inches from hers. For a moment, she saw something in his eyes that made her heart skip a beat. But before she could process it, Rey’s lips were on hers, the kiss harsh and desperate. Stunned, Cathy's eyes wide with shock pushed him away with all her strength. “What the hell is wrong with you, Rey?” she shouted, her voice trembling. “Get away from me!” Rey staggered back, the realization of what he had done hitting him like a ton of bricks. He stared at Cathy, his mind reeling, but before he could say anything, she stormed out of the powder room, leaving him standing there, dazed and confused. Cathy was devastated. She couldn’t believe what had just happened. Her hands trembled as she hurried back to the dining area, determined to leave. She didn’t tell Ethan what had happened, just mumbled something about not feeling well and needing to go home. Ethan, concerned but unaware of the encounter, quickly settled the bill and offered to drive her home. The ride was silent, Cathy staring out the window, her mind was full of a whirlwind of emotions. When they arrived at her apartment, Cathy thanked Ethan quietly and went inside, still shaken by the night’s events. She changed into her silk nighties, trying to calm herself down. But just as she was about to get into bed, the doorbell rang. Cathy’s heart skipped a beat. She thought it might be Ethan coming back to check on her again. Throwing on a robe, she cautiously approached the door and checked the peephole. She made a sudden gasp when she saw who it was. It was Rey. She hesitated for a moment, but then opened the door slightly, keeping the chain in place. “Rey, what are you doing here?” she whispered urgently. “It’s late. You need to go home.” Rey, clearly drunk, pushed the door open, breaking the chain and stumbling into the apartment. Cathy was stunned, her heart racing. “Rey, are you out of your mind? You need to leave before you wake up the whole house—and Elijah!” But Rey wasn’t listening. He quickly closed the door. His eyes were wild, filled with a mix of regret, confusion, and something darker. “Cathy,” he slurred, his voice low, “I don’t know what’s happening to me.” Cathy tried to guide him toward the door, but he resisted, grabbing her by the shoulders. “Rey, stop! You’re drunk. Just go home and sleep it off.” But Rey didn’t let go. Instead, he pulled her closer, his eyes locking onto hers. Before she could react, he kissed her again, this time with a force that took her breath away. The kiss was rough, almost punishing, as if he was trying to drown out whatever demons were tormenting him. Without a word, Rey slid his hand beneath her robe, his fingers tracing a slow, deliberate path up her thigh. Cathy’s breath hitched as his touch grew bolder, his rough fingertips sending shivers down her spine. He didn’t stop there—his hand continued its journey until it reached the heat between her legs. Rey didn’t hesitate. With a swift, fluid motion, he slipped a finger inside her, the sudden intrusion making Cathy froze. His finger moved with a purpose, exploring her with a relentless intensity that left her reeling. Cathy was shocked, her eyes wide open. But Cathy’s body responded instinctively, her hips lifting slightly to meet his touch, but Rey wasn’t satisfied with just that. He took it another notch, adding a second finger inside her. The sensation was overwhelming, two fingers now working inside her, each movement driving her closer to the edge. Cathy’s breath grew ragged as he skillfully pumped his fingers in and out, the friction igniting a fire deep within her. But Rey wasn’t done. She pushed her to the wall, parted her legs and his head dipped lower quickly, lowered her delicate underwear and before Cathy could catch her breath, she felt his tongue flick against her sensitive button. A cry escaped her lips, her hands clutching at his head as he continued his assault. His tongue swirled around her button, teasing and taunting, while his fingers worked her from within. Cathy’s mind went blank, her body overtaken by the sheer intensity of the sensations coursing through her. Rey’s fingers and tongue moved in perfect rhythm, each touch sending waves of pleasure crashing over her. She could feel herself spiraling, lost in the mix of pain and pleasure that Rey was so expertly inflicting upon her. Her back arched off the wall as Rey pushed her closer to the edge, his movements becoming more demanding, more insistent. Cathy’s moans filled the room, mingling with the sound of Rey’s heavy breathing. She was teetering on the brink, her body trembling with the force of her impending release. Yet, Cathy was in a confusing mix of emotions. The roughness of Rey’s touch, the way he had taken her with such raw intensity—it was something she hadn’t expected, something she wasn’t sure how to process. She loved him, had always loved him, but this… this was different. This was a side of Rey she had never fully seen before, and it left her feeling both exhilarated and shaken. Fear overpowers Cathy despite the carnal of emotions as she struggles against him, she uses the remaining smallest form of clarity in her brain and manages to push him away. “Rey, stop!” she cried, her voice shaking with a mix of fear and anger. Rey stared at her, his expression a mix of shock and shame. For a moment, he seemed to realize what he had done. Without another word, he stood up and stormed out of the apartment, leaving Cathy standing there, stunned and shaken. As the door closed behind him, Cathy sank to the floor sobbing, her mind reeling from what had just happened. She was too stunned to cry. She touched her lips, still feeling the force of Rey’s kiss, and shuddered. She couldn’t believe what happened, how everything had spiraled out of control. Rey had crossed a line tonight—one that she wasn’t sure could ever be uncrossed. And as she sat there in the darkness, Cathy knew that things between them had just become even more complicated.
