A year has passed by now ,schools are reopening is time for Mia to get into the university. She stood at the crossroads, her dreams colliding with reality, because of her family's finances crumpling, University tuition loomed like a mountain, its peak obscured by clouds of uncertainty. she has to get a job to survive this crises, and students loans is not an option for her.She had no choice but to skip a year, to step off the conveyor belt of academia and into the gritty world of survival.
She craved independence, not just financial but emotional so that she could be free from what she has been going through at home. The walls of their home felt like prison bars, and she yearned for the open sky,so getting a job can make these a bonus to her,at least she can go out for sometime.
She told her parents about her descision but they all agreed to it ,she was surprised her mom agreed too but she didn't let that get to her.
"but you have to be home around seven pm got it".
"yes mom" just as i thought she was going to be adding curfews ,she makes me look as if i'm a bad child ha.
Skipping a year felt like jumping off a cliff but for now it worth it.
Mia left the hallowed halls of academia and stepped into the bustling streets of reality. Armed with determination and a tattered resume, she scoured job listings. The city hummed with life, its rhythm both daunting and exhilarating.
She found refuge in a quaint bookstore—a sanctuary of ink and paper. The smell of old books enveloped her, and she became a silent observer of stories. She stacked shelves, dusted forgotten corners, and lost herself in the words of others. The paycheck was modest, but it was hers
Excited about her job Mia arrives at the bookstore before the sun fully stretches its arms. The air smells of aged paper and freshly brewed coffee. She flips the sign from “Closed” to “Open,” inviting the world inside. The bell above the door chimes—a melody of anticipation.
The first customers trickle in—some with sleepy eyes, others with a caffeinated buzz. Mia greets them with a warm smile. “Good morning! How can I assist you today?” She’s a guide through the labyrinth of genres—mystery, romance, fantasy, memoirs—all neatly arranged on wooden shelves.
This is refreshing at least i can breathe and have a peace of mind here, she thought.
As the sun retreats, Mia dims the lights. The bookstore clock ticked its final seconds. The smell of ink and old leather clung to her skin—the scent of stories woven into her very being. She loved this place—the quiet refuge where words whispered secrets.
Is so sad the day is over ,now i will have to go back to that hellish place, she thought and sighed as She counted the day’s earnings, locks the door, and whispers goodnight to the characters who linger between pages. The bell chimes one last time—a lullaby for the stories that sleep until tomorrow.
She stepped onto the cobblestone street, her footsteps echoing in the twilight.
Mia’s phone buzzed—a call from her mother. Elena’s voice crackled through the line. “Mia, my dear, how was work?”,Mia was puzzled confused and uncomfortable when her mom said my dear because she never used that with her,but she replied anyway.
“good” Mia replied. “Just the way I like it.” she mumbled.
“do you remember the music club i talked about” Elena said.
"yes mom,what about it"
"when are you planning to join ,it's been two weeks now ,is for your own good ".
listen to what i'm saying i know what's best for you". This phrase 'the best for you ' made Mia annoyed she wanted to explode ,was the best thing for her ,dictating her life for her she thought while supressing the urge to lash out on her mom she has had enough of this and replied to her"I will do so".
She didn't mean what she said but before she knew it she was at the entrance of the music club room, her mom talked about it when she used to criticize her,but she didn't feel like doing so,but now she's here.
Standing before the music club room, her heart echoing the rhythm of anticipation. The door, adorned with a polished brass handle, beckoned her—a gateway to a symphony waiting to unfold.
Mia felt the music room breathe—a living entity that recognized her. looking at how lively the music room was bustling before her she descided to give it a short, because it made her feel alive andat peace.
Morning came and Mia did her morning routine as usual, this time she closed early from work because she wanted to leave early and go straight to the music club room. She entered the room and saw an empty seat next to a girl , she mustered her courage and approached her.
she turned, her eyes locking onto Mia’s. “Hey,” she replied, her smile genuine. “You’re new here, right?”
Mia nodded. “Yeah, I guess you are new here too.”
Sey gestured to the empty seat next to her. “Join me. I’m Sey, and yes i'm new here. Nice to meet you”
"I'm Mia nice to meet you too"
Sey responded with a smile and then their focus was shifted to the musical coach. They introduced themselves, did some song rehersals and then ended the session.
Mia decided to leave since she knows no one there, she's the type who dosen't socialize,so it was even more surprising to her that she made a lot of friends every where she goes even though she dosen't approach them.Just when she was about to leave Sey called out to her.
"hey wait up Mia"
Mia turned to look at the person calling, she was surprised, she turned only to see that Sey was the one calling to her.
"are you heading this way " Sey inquired
"yes"
"Then let's go together my home is along this road too"
"oh okay let's go together then". All through out the journey Sey was the one doing the talking and Mia doing the listening.
Mia was a girl who danced to the rhythm of her own heartbeat. She was an introverted soul on the outside with an extrovert’s smile, but a crazy and an energetic person when you get to know her,and when she is comfortable around you. This girl attracted friends like bees to honey. She had an uncanny ability to light up a room with her laughter, when she's around people she knows and feel comfortable with.yet she struggled to connect with people beyond surface pleasantries.
Her smile was her secret weapon—a dazzling curve that could disarm even the grumpiest of souls. People moved toward her, drawn by the warmth she exuded. But behind that smile lay a girl who felt like an outsider in her own world hidding all her surrow and pain from the world.
And it was during the start of their friendship that Sey got to know that.
And just like that, they became friends. Mia and Sey talked like old friends, their laughter blending seamlessly with the jazz. They shared stories of their broken hearts, their dreams and some challenges they have encountered.
And the weeks that followed, Mia and Sey became inseparable. They explored the city together, chasing sunsets and moonlit streets when thety had the chance because, Mia was always locked up at home and not allowed to go outside unless is for grosseries.so the little chance she got was before or after the club meeting or work. Sey taught Mia to dance to the rhythm of her heart, to embrace the dissonance and find beauty in the unexpected which helped a lot because Mia became too timid and stiff, thanks to being indoors all the time.
As the seasons changed, so did their friendship. Mia discovered that making friends wasn’t about saying the right words or fitting in—it was about being true to herself. Sey was her confidante, her partner in crime, and the missing note that completed her composition.
On a raining day at the music club
Mia hesitated, then spoke. “Sey, why did you reach out to me that day?”
Sey’s eyes held galaxies—the same curiosity that had drawn them together. “Because,” she said softly, “I saw your heart and for some reason I was drawn to you maybe because we are alike.”
From that moment, their friendship deepened. They shared secrets—the scars they hid, the dreams they dared not speak aloud. The music room became their refuge—a place where notes danced, and souls bared their vulnerabilities.
And as Mia played the piano, Samantha’s voice joined in—a harmony that resonated beyond the confines of the room. Their friendship was no longer just about music; it was about healing, hope, and the promise of a new symphony. It was through the journey of friendship Mia dot to know that she had a lot in common with Sey,which is both of them being hurt by their mothers . Mia would say she is lucky to be going through this hell, even though their pain are the same Sey's was the worst, but that didn't mean Mia could be like this with others despite being able to open up,she was only like this with Sey.
