The Last year Halloween

Finally it is today. The word Halloween used to bring me so much joy and excitement but now all I feel is the fear that I might lose someone I love. Last years Halloween is a day never to be remembered. I know you all are itching to know what had happened to me. "Jessica Gilbert." I was called upon by my outmoded school principal, i was shocked out of my pre-occupied mind, because I wasn't in the right state of mind. Today I got into an argument with Kimberly Jones and she reminded me of how ugly i used to be in middle school, and how everyone used to laugh at me and resist me because of how ugly i used to be. She also made me recall how she will always save me from them because of her beauty. After all that she had said, she told me I still look as ugly as I used to look in middle school and my looks will never change, even though Jason left her and came after me, obviously she is not yet over their sudden break up. I stood bewildered, and couldn't reply her harsh words, her words brought down my esteem. The word 'you are ugly' kept howling in my head repeatedly, and this made me doubt my competence in the contest. The principal called to tell me that, I am qualified to compete in the beauty contest the school is organizing, alongside Kimberly Jones, and three other female students. The winner is going to represent the school national and internationally in any school contests. I wasn't expecting my name to be mentioned because, I used to be hardly noticed in the school, until I started dating Jason williams couple of months ago, after admiring him for so many years. He used to hardly notice me because of how Kimberly always move around with him like someone will steal him away from her. She wouldn't even allow him talk to any girl in the school, so I admired him from a distance. He was dating Kimberly Jones my ex-bestfriend before he started dating me. Kimberly and I were best friends in middle school because she would always protect me from the hurtful words of my classmates. We stopped being friends few years ago, because I got irritated by her sudden change of character, and the way she treats people. I am really determined to win now that my name has been mentioned so that i can make my mum proud, I really wish my dad was still with us he will be the most excited. Its been 10yrs now since he left to work one night, during his night shift in his place of work, since that night he never returned. We still hope he will come back home to us one day and tell us what had happened to him that night. Now it is just my mum and my younger brother Joel. I am really excited to hear my name and my present bestfriends Ella white and Ria jackson are also really excited. {Flashback to everything that happened.} "Jess." Ella grumpily calls my name to know where I have been, because she has been looking for me since she got to school. She did not see me in class this morning, I have been looking for a spot where I'll campaign to get fans that will vote for me, since I got to school. I couldn't wait till classes were over because, I want to be prepared ahead of time since the contestants were given two days free from classes so they can prepare very well for the deal day, which is the day after tomorrow. But I have been really unlucky with a spot. "I have been looking for you round the entire school."The unusual expression on her face made me conclude that she must have looked for me everywhere, tirelessly. "I have been looking for a spot where my campagin will take place." She kept stairing arround the background where i was standing in an infuriated manner. "Have you found one?" I couldn't tell her that I was on that stop I was looking for because her facial expressions proves, she was irritated by the surroundings I called a spot. I found my way out by telling her I could not find one. "Let us go look for one." I followed her. Ella is someone that moves around the school and knows every corners and angles in the school, so following her to look for a better spot won't be an issue. "Please can you tell me where we are going to?" With those long and fast legs of hers, she kept walking like she was touring me round the school. The fact that we have not gotten to our destination after a very long walk got me really stressed out. "Do not worry we will soon be there, just be patient." She sounded so sure of where we were headed, so I am convinced we are almost there. But I am totally tired of the whole walk already, "I wish I could fly right now....." I sighed heavily and folded my hands. "We are finally there." few minutes after some more walk we got there. "Ella!! What is this?" I could not hide my expression about how I felt, because the place was not at all what I expected after such a long walk. "This is the best place you can get in the school." She tried to convince me, with an innocent look. "No Ella! I do not like this place, and my campaign will not hold here." I said this grumpily. I was devastated i thought Ella knew everywhere in the school, i trusted she will get me a good spot, but I was disappointed on getting to where she call a good spot. "I am leaving." The anger and disappointment was obvious in my facial expression, and the manner at which I talked to her. She tried to stop me from leaving angrily because she know how I can be when I am angry. "I am sorry Jess. I thought you'll like this place, don't worry we'll go look for a better one." The innocence and sadness on her face while she talked made me regret my earlier action, its not her fault I can not get myself a good spot, so why should I transfer the frustration on my best friend. I feel really ashamed right now. "Thanks Ella, you have really helped me today and I appreciate but right now I am tired." Definitely I had to look for a way to speak to her in a grateful manner, so she will not look sad anymore.. "With an uneasy way we left the spot." " Wow Jess, so you are in school today, how come I didn't see you in class." He looked like he never even looked for me, and he wasn't looking really surprised seeing me in school, like he already knew I am in school and trying to pretend not to know. Though he has not seen me in class today because I didn't attend classes. "Yes I have been in school looking for a spot for my campaign all day, but still unable to find one." Even though i did not want him to know i was dissapointed in myself, it was obvious all over my face, and the tone I used in replying him for not being able to get a comfortable spot for my campaign. "Why didn't you tell me about it, I know somewhere in the school that is perfect for you." It felt like an angel had fallen to save me, I was not sure if I can trust him with a spot I will like, but he spoke with so much confidence, and I mean Jason is a guy he should know places around the school really well. I hope he will help me get a very comfortable spot. "Let us go, i will show you." I followed him with little faith in him. "This is the spot, do you like it?" The excitement was all over my face, I could not even hide it. This is exactly what I wanted, its facing the school cafeteria and its also very close to the basketball court, so both the junior and Senior students can know about my campaign and luckily they may like me. I can not wait to tell Ella and Ria that I will start my campaign tomorrow. "This is perfect." I let out a soft smile. It felt like a load was lifted from my chest the excitement on my face was really visible.
