“Are these memories, or am I going crazy?” he thought. He was feeling frustrated.
“Who is she? Why is she following me? I know Dr Sood knows something, but he’s not telling me the truth; NO ONE WANTS TO TELL ME THE TRUTH,” he was talking to himself angrily, walking around the house.
Arun would do this often; he would walk around the house talking to himself.
Rajni would try to calm him and support him, but he felt frustrated when she couldn’t answer his questions. The truth being, no one in his family, including Rajni, knew anything about this girl in his visuals.
He would, again and again, ask the same question to Dr Sood and was disappointed with his reply because even he was wary about telling him the truth about the girl in his visuals. Dr Sood was treading cautiously and did not want to reveal anything at the cost of causing more damage.
This frustrated Arun further. Days passed, and the visuals kept getting stronger. He tried to divert his mind with meagre jobs at call centres, but could not concentrate at all.
He would go to different places around the city with Jatin and Bijoy with a hope that something or someplace might trigger his memory back. At home, he would flip through the photo albums again and again, but could not find the girl in his visuals anywhere. Disappointed, he stopped talking to everyone, including Rajni and Hardev and would remain locked in his room for hours.
Rajni and Hardev were feeling helpless because Arun refused to go to the doctor, so they had no choice but to watch him getting frustrated. Arun was feeling low and dejected when one night, he woke up frightened. Rajni rushed towards him. He was shivering and breathing heavily, and he was sweating like a pig.
“Are you ok, beta?” asked Rajni.
“I can remember, mom...” he mumbled.
“What?” she said, looking concerned.
“...I can remember everything,” replied Arun with a faint smile.
“How did this happen?” she asked. She was excited and surprised at the same time.
“I don’t know, but I guess the constant nightmares and visuals were my memories,” replied Arun, who was still struggling to breathe.
“Take it easy, beta; have some water and breathe slowly,” she said, passing some water to
Arun. She started wiping the sweat off his face with her dupatta. As Arun gulped the water, he jumped on the bed and shouted: “I CAN REMEMBER EVERYTHING, MOM!!!”
He hugged Rajni tightly, who was quite happy and tears of joy filled her eyes. He quickly called up Prasad excitedly and shouted: “I CAN REMEMBER EVERYTHING,” Prasad rushed home in the middle of the night, leaving his office shift.
Everyone was happy that Arun’s memory was back.
“What had happened, son?” Hardev asked him.
“I don’t know, Dad. All I can remember is that I was sad because of Zulu leaving us, then we lost the car too, and then I was scared for mom due to her ill health, and I guess some of the pressure was also due to the break-up with my girlfriend. However, I want to assure you all that the break-up was not the only cause of this happening to me. In fact, because of Zulu and the car thingy, I was under much pressure, and if these two things had not taken place then I would have easily handled mom’s ill health and the break-up,” said Arun.
Hardev seemed relieved and was quite happy.
As Arun slept that night, memories hit him like a tsunami hitting a beach. He remembered about the coke overdose the night before this all started but kept this to himself because he feared that his parents might feel hurt if they knew about his drug addiction.
He was feeling relieved that his addiction was gone thanks to him losing his memory and also the medicines by Dr Shah. In the morning, he called Neeru, who was also delighted to hear the news. The news quickly spread around and reached his relatives too. Nitin and Joseph were also glad to know this. He thanked Jatin and Bijoy for their support. They were delighted that Arun regained his memory.
Arun thanked God for giving him such a loving and supportive family and pledged to never hurt them again.
