A New Life

Vivian Desmonde walked to The Lavish one morning. "I cannot contact Jonathan, is he here?" Alex immediately went to her, left his post at the reception and told her, "He has left yesterday and has not come back yet, ma'am." She grabbed him by the elbow and told him, "I do not understand how Jon had been missing and Catherine also left their home at Noughton's." Alex seemed shocked at the news, "That's not possible." He put out his mobile phone from his pocket, and dialled her number, but there was no answer. "So what now?" Vivian asked him. "I… I have no clue. We haven't really spoken much since she resigned, and I have no idea where she went." She replied, "Alex, they are both not answering their mobile phones. There must be something else." Alex was not speaking, he was thinking of how things will turn out since he had plans of getting in the middle of the relationship. "You better do something." Vivian told him, her voice strong and authoritative. She then let his elbow go and turned her back on him, but remembered something and walked a few steps past Alex, asked the ladies who were standing behind the reception desk. “Do you happen to know if Jonathan had been speaking to any lawyer? Just wondering.” The two ladies shook their heads, and so Vivian gave them a raise of eyebrows and left, with disappointment and anger clouding over her, she still managed to walk out with poise, desperate to make her next move.  ****** "Welcome to Los Angeles, Mister Albertson." Lee said, pulling two luggage bags, both of Cathy's. He hugged both of them, and he kissed Cathy's hand afterwards. "I'm so glad to see you again young lady." The couple's arrival at the airport had been made known to Lee, as his executive assistant, there would not be anyone that Jon could trust more than him. Jon smiled, and gave him a pat on the shoulder. Lee had come to the state a few days ahead to prepare everything for Jon. The apartment unit that he bought for Cathy and him, for her college preparation and all other things that deemed important. As they walked outside the airport, Cathy and Jon held hands and smiled occasionally at each other. They got in a car which was driven by a newly hired assistant, Jeffrey Simmons. Jeffrey is a tall man who had been hired by Lee to be looking after Cathy once he and Jon got back to New York. Jon and Cathy are both seated at the backseat of the car, Jeffrey was driving and Lee was seated at the passenger seat beside him. "The apartment will be somewhere around here and we will probably reach it in about less than an hour," Lee assured the two. With Jeffrey driving, Lee had been busy with his mobile, speaking to different people. "You're going to take a rest at The Orsini, before we take you to UCLA. You have an appointment with a dean," he told Cathy after he hung up. "The Orsini?" she asked Jon, to which he replied, "Yes, that's where you're going to stay during college." Her eyes enlarged with surprise, she knows that it is not as ordinary as the Noughton's. "And UCLA? Lee, are we sure of this?" she exclaimed. "You have indeed passed the entrance examinations and yes, you are eligible to study in UCLA." Jon put her arms around her, and kissed her cheek. "You are a smart woman, you can do it." They both smiled, and in a minute the car had turned into a parkway leading to a low rise apartment building. "Here we are," Jon said. They arrived at The Orsini, and Cathy could not explain the joy she felt in her heart as she walked through the hallway, onto their unit. It was a two bedroom apartment, and Jon told her, "I chose a two bedroom unit so that your mom can also stay here once she's done with matters in Arizona." Cathy smiled, and as they entered the first room, a woman entered. "Hi," a hispanic woman, tall with broad shoulders and hips, gave them a warm greeting. "You must be Mister Albertson and his," he paused, then looked at Cathy and held her hands, and continued. "His fiancée." Cathy smiled but did not know how to react. Jon nodded and said "Yes, this is Catherine. The woman I am going to marry." He placed his left hand on her back, smiled at Cathy and then told the woman, "But for now she needs to focus on a few things." He paused and said, "You must be Anna?" The woman replied. "Anna Simmons, sir." Anna is married to Jeffrey Simmons, the man who drove the car from the airport to the apartment. Anna gave them a tour of the unit. Which has two bedrooms and a balcony of the first one. When they were done with the introduction, the couple had lunch which was prepared by Anna, with Jeffrey and Lee. Jon and Cathy spent their time at the living area of the flat, talking about their plans and of how they are going to get rid of Vivian and the others. By the time, Cathy had not checked her mobile phone just yet, and was unable to know that Alex had indeed been calling her for more than an hour.  Before the sun set, the Simmons went back to their nearby home. Lee stayed in the second bedroom, while Jon and Cathy took the first one. They stared at the stars, imagined how beautiful their future would be . “If we happen to have a little girl, I’d name her Charlotte,” Jon said, stroked Cathy’s hair and stared at her face. “It is too early to say that,” she replied. “But if it is going to be a little boy, I will call him Charlie.” Jon continued. She held his face in her hands then kissed his forehead, she said, "This is going to be the beginning of a new life." Their faces got closer, and just when they were about to kiss, Jon’s phone rang. It was Clarence Morgan. Jon went out of the room, went to the living area, and spoke to his lawyer for more than an hour. When he got back in the bedroom, Cathy was already asleep. He got to his side of the bed and stared at her beautiful face, until he too fell asleep.
