The Bad News

Jon was back at the penthouse the Saturday morning after, and as he entered his suite, he did not notice the man who was seated at the dark blue sofa. As he saw him, the man got up. “Surprised?” Keith asked his son. He knew for a fact that Jon had been to California, but he did not contact him because he was too busy with a lot of work that Jon had left behind. “No,” Jon replied, pretending he already saw him and that he was not surprised at all. He  went straight to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, looking for some food to eat. He instead grabbed a bottle of soda and poured some into a glass. His father followed him and asked, “Jonathan, are you not going to ask why I was here?” Jon did not say a word, and so Keith continued. “Attorney Clarence Morgan,” he paused as Jon turned to look at him and replied, “What about him?” Keith moved closer to Jon, took the glass of water off his hand and placed it on the marble countertop. He tried to be as calm as possible. “He was shot in his office, Thursday night.” Jon was shocked, he felt his jaw drop and his knees went weak. He was not able to utter a word, for he knew that the man is a good lawyer, nobody would have expected him to die in such a brutal manner. Keith continued, “Son, he was onto your mother’s case when this happened. He called me, the same day you arrived in Los Angeles, and told me that there were discrepancies with your mother’s murder.” “Dad, I….I do not know. I can’t breathe.” Jon started to turn pale, as he felt an unexplainable pain in his heart. He spoke to Morgan when he was with Cathy, and there were some light being shed to the murder of his mother, which is in relation to the attack of Jennifer Mills.  In a few minutes, a doctor came in to check up on Jon. “He shall regain consciousness in a little while.” “Thank you,” Keith replied and went back to his son who was in his bedroom. While he was staring at him, Lee called up. “It’s Keith.” Lee replied, “Sir. I need to speak to..” He cut him off, “I have already told him, if it is about Attorney Morgan,” Jon woke up and grabbed the phone from his father. “Hey Lee.” “Sir, Miss Desmonde had flown to France yesterday morning. She was at The Lavish the day before, looked for you and even spoke to a few of your staff.” Jon looked at his father, and replied to Lee, “I think I know what happened. Please contact the Simmons, Lee. You know what it’s about.” Lee agreed, and hung up.  ****** Cathy had been to the office of the dean in UCLA, got back to the apartment at four in the afternoon with Anna waiting for her right in the dining area. “I have prepared food for you, dear.” They both smiled, and Cathy thanked her for the effort she had made to take care of her. She did not happen to know anything about Attorney Morgan’s death, and was unaware that Vivian already left the United States for some reasons that were her own. She had already spoken to Alex over the phone while she was on her way home, who had asked for her address. “I will be sending you a gift,” he told her. She did not disclose her whereabouts as Jon had advised her not to. “George Keith Albertson will know where I am staying, and eventually he will tell Vivian who might come uninvited,” she thought to herself and so she told Alex, “I cannot give you an address yet. I am currently staying in an inn. Everything is temporary.” Right after she had dinner, she had dialled Jon’s number multiple times but was unable to reach him. “He was probably very busy,” Anna told her and stroked her hair. “ I brought you a glass of milk. Now head on to bed.” She told her. “Anna was right,” Cathy told herself silently. “He was off work for a week and he needs to keep up,” Anna left her alone in the room, thinking about a lot of things. She called up her mother and told her that she had moved to a beautiful city and is now living in a beautiful place. Her aunt was doing a lot better, and Jennifer might book a flight to Los Angeles in a few weeks to be with her daughter.
