Luke was a great surprise to Clara, he was open and friendly, the first day he offered to chat she was excited, she would make a human friend. She knew no one from the homestead would understand her need to know humans. They would convince that everything she needed to know was in their history books, venturing into the human world to that extent was f*******n. She knew of a boy when she was young, one of the dethroned royal family who fled into the town, the elders had said he had died though no one ever found his body. She often wondered about him if he had survived and where was he all this time, her thoughts always ended in her thinking that he died. No one could survive without their kind for that long. Luke was polite and was interested in what she said and that was very refreshing they chatted for about an hour, she loved to hear his insights on humans and their society. He was very knowledgeable and debated the book so much and provided some information on a lot of things. Sometimes when reading books, she was doubtful on how true they were but hearing from an actual human was enlightening . Whilst her kind put every human in the same bracket , she realised they were different and could make their own decisions and go against society. They encouraged going after you believed in, and love was very important to them. She had gotten more information than she had ever received the 2 years she had been coming to the town. The bakery had become her new favourite place, the muffins were divine and now there was a human who wanted to be friend. All her attempts to make a friend had always been a problem when they asked about where she lived. So, she needed a good lie so that Luke would not be suspicious of her and keep being her friend. She often wondered if any humans knew an=bout the homestead, their home stead was glamour by ancient magic that protected them from being ever discovered. You never know, she should have to look for a book about old legends.
The town was small, she realised that from the books she read, the world was bigger and until she was 25 years old she could not travel beyond the town. She could not wait, she wanted to see the big cities and she would gain more knowledge there. Clara had gone to the town yesterday but she wanted to talk to Luke again so she decided to visit again. She made an excuse that she left a book in the town and she would not be long. The guards asked her why she was visiting again so soon, but since she never broke the rules they allowed her. The homestead was very strict about the amount of time one of them spend in the outside world. She was so excited, when she arrived at the bakery she saw Luke on the counter serving this elderly couple he was all smiles and treated everyone so politely. A part of her wished that Luke was one of them, and she could date him. She waited for the other customers to get their orders and walked to the counter. When Luke looked at her, he had such a big smile, it melted part of her heart. She was glad she made it today, Luke greeted her , he quickly made her order and told her to wait for her for a few minutes. She literally skipped to her seat, she watched him work. The way he moved was so assured, he helped every customer with such patience. She loved the way he helped his mother. That was beautiful, and his mother appreciated him their relationship seemed close. That made her miss her own mother, her mother went missing when she was young the whole homestead presumed she was dead. She went missing the same night that the previous royal family was dethroned, everyone thought the boy had attacked her when they went searching. Clara ‘s mother was the leader of the security at the homestead , she was known for her strength and how she always put the safety of the homestead first. Clara wasn’t that strong, in her true form she was fierce like her mother but she wasn’t a fighter at heart. Her sister Cleo was the fighter, she wanted to be more like their mother. Their father was on the homestead council , he was kind and was the most beloved of the members of council. She was like her father in that way though her heart was always outside the homestead she would never leave it because it would break her father’s heart. Looking at Luke and his mother she thought of her dad and missed her mom. The relationships between parents and children seemed the same as their own kind. She had seen many parents interact with their kids, especially in the park. There was love there and the information she had about humans was a lie.
LUKE
When he saw Clara enter the bakery, his heart skipped a beat. He was happy to see her. The second step to his master plan was working. It certainly didn’t hurt that Clara, his target, was pretty and intelligent. He would enjoy chatting with people and also getting information. As he continued working, he stole some glances of Clara has she enjoyed her muffin and coffee. He realized that she truly enjoyed being among humans and that was rare. He was a bit sorry that he was going to betray her, but his mission was more important than anything else. He knew his mother was watching him watch Clara, she would have a lot to say about it. Mara was the only person who knew her secret. The way this woman accepted her was a miracle. That night he realized everything that the homestead said about humans was wrong . She embraced him that night and took him in and fed him. He fell asleep in the arms of this strange human. He was afraid, but he was more afraid of his own kind. His choice to embrace this woman was the right choice. She never asked any questions until he was ready to share. The first few days he kept to himself on the couch, not saying anything. She brought him food and water and never pushed for anything. After a week, she asked him his name, and she told her and told her he needed to stay hidden because they were looking for him. She tried to ask him who, but he didn’t reply to that question but kept on reminding her that he should hide. She hugged him and promised him that she would always protect him and that was what she did. As months passed by, she encouraged him to talk to him and open up about himself. He told her that the only thing she had to do was to hide her, but she wanted him to have a life also. So, the two of them in Mara’s living room devised a plan so that he could hide in plain sight. It was not an easy journey, but she really loved his human mother more than anyone in the world. She was a Godsend. She tried in the beginning to convince him to not avenge his family, but revenge was in his blood.
Clara waited for him while he worked and when he could take a break he rushed to where she was sitting. This girl was something else. He wanted information about the homestead, but he also wanted information about this girl. Something about her made him want to know everything, including how her body feels. It was crazy. He had never had such distractions before. He had had girlfriends before, but those were never serious. He took a seat opposite Clara, who was smiling at him. He couldn’t help but smile back. He heard his mother chuckle at the counter, he was letting sides of him show he had to remember his mission. So, they sat for a few minutes chatting about the day and the food they liked. He listened to her talk about everything she liked, she said that the muffins were the best , and he could not argue with that. His mother could bake, he remembers the first meal he allowed himself to eat when he first arrived. Clara was so open about her as a person, but she did not mention anything outside that. It was her likes, her books and nothing else. He wanted to find a way to ask without scaring her off. He needed a plan; his kind never hung out and shared, so he had to figure it out. So, when Clara asked if he had any siblings, he found his way in. He asked her about her family. She looked hesitant, but she told him she had a little sister and stopped her and changed the subject. He didn’t push it, it was a good sign that she shared that she had a sister. He allowed her to change the subject. He wondered if he had grown up at the homestead would they have been friends or even more. This girl intrigued her with the way she was comfortable talking to him. Did she know he wasn’t human? They talked for about half an hour. He had to go help his mom with the customers. It worried him a bit how his mother managed when he wasn’t there. There was a girl who helped during the holidays only. He had looked into that. He did not want his mother to die of fatigue. He decided to take a chance and ask for a meeting outside the bakery when he wasn’t busy and didn’t have any distractions. He saw the hesitation again, but she agreed to his relief. They made plans to meet in the park during the weekend, and he looked at her and wished he could see her every day and not for his mission. Wanting to know her more was now overriding the mission of knowing more about his previous home. Did he have to find another of his kind to ask these questions? Maybe he was confusing his happiness by finding one of his kind to speak to that it was clouding his judgment. Luke the son of the King could not let a lass get in his way, he had to avenge his family. So, he shoved all these feelings that he is feelings deep dee into the darkness. The homestead, especially the Chen family, had to pay for betraying his family and murdering everyone in his family. He could not forgive them and this girl was a way in and nothing else, and he should never forget it. He said goodbye to Clara and as he watched her go he promised himself that he would not let her distract him from his master plan.
