Chapter 6

Morgan’s POV Leaving the room I was in seems to have just been a tiny part of whatever you call this place. The walls were bright white with blue hints and patterns. Beds like the one I was on, dotted around us some with other people, some empty. Despite my better judgement, knowing there were other people here made me instinctively draw myself closer to Kane and Seth. I have at least met these two and so far have not shown any aggression towards me. The people on the beds? No idea who they are or what they are like. They could jump up and attack me at any moment. I follow both men when they lead me to a room with weird slopes that go higher or lower. "What are these?" my mouth too fast for my brain to stop it. Kane tries to tell me about these 'stairs' and steps down one holding onto the bar to his left. "See perfectly safe. Just hold on if you aren't sure." He tried to assure me but I was skeptical that these stairs wouldn't just cave in or that holding on will stop me from falling down. I grasp the handle to my left and take a shaky step. The ground was solid underneath my foot, so I continued to take slow, methodical steps. Kane and Seth seem to be following my pace. By the time I reached the bottom of the steps I was pretty confident with it. Taking more confident steps by the end. The men lead me outside to a beautiful land. Lush trees and green grass, could have been mistaken for my oasis. People were walking around the land, happy and care-free. Some were maintaining the flowers, there were children playing. It was all so serene. Yet seeing the people made me feel at peace for the first time in a while. I didn't feel like I had to run from these people. The men though, I still did not trust. They had to earn that. We follow a path made of gray stones for 15 minutes. My stomach was already yelling for more food but, it also hurt a little. Why did my stomach hurt? I don't want to go back to that room, it was too bright and noisy. We reached the 'pack house' and Kane stepped forward to let me and Seth in. "Are you okay with more stairs? I think it might help give you some more strength back if the stairs are a part of your journey outside?" Alpha Kane asks looking my way. "Looks like he is pleading with you?" Saph tilts her head in confusion at her own statement. I shrug, "I guess it couldn't hurt." Kane smiles and begins to ascend the stairs. The pack house was anything but natural. Carved stone, shiny stairs. The only thing that seemed more natural about the place was wooden supports. Clearly cut down and shaped, but that wood wasn't shiny or polished. "What are those?" I ask both men as we climb the stairs, pointing to something on the wall. "Those are my parents. We have been leading this pack for generations. That is a picture of them hung in a frame." Kane answers my question softly. His tone filled with love and kindness when he spoke of them. "Are your parents here?" My follow up made him freeze up and his shoulders tense. "Let's get you settled first. They are still here, yes, however they can be... A lot." He responded as softly as before. I wonder what he means by 'a lot'? Reaching the top of the stairs, there are many doors like at the other place. The doors are more polished and dark though. I follow the men to the final door. Kane's scent is more concentrated here, it was almost suffocating. The urge to go to him is stronger here, but so far he has been nice, it is still not enough. He holds up a key and puts it in the door, turning it before opening it. "This is your key. You may lock this door if it helps you feel safe. Holly, our maid, is going to pop by to help you get the shower going and help you with your hair. She will also bring some fresh clothes." Seth hands me the key and they allow me to go inside the room. The tones in the room are light, airy and soft. There's two more doors inside the room. I hear both men leave me be, and I open one of the doors. I instantly spot the shower, remembering Seth's description of the circle in the sky. There is a big and long thing in the corner of the room, a small version of it sitting to the side attached to the wall. As I explore the room, I find my reflection. My hair half stood up by itself it was so matted. My skin pale and my body? Skinny, not skin and bones but you can tell I wasn't supposed to be this skinny. I tugged at my hair with my fingers, when a knock sounds. "Hello? Morgan, it is Holly, I am here to help you get settled?" She speaks into the room. I come out to find a smaller woman with dirty blonde hair and a few wrinkles on her face. She was clearly older but she had a soft expression. Her face change to pity when I cam out of the room, eyes fixated on my hair. "I see why Alpha enlisted my help with your hair. I have brought a swim suit up that should fit so you don't have to worry about being naked in front of me. I will get the bath running and we can talk while it fills." Her smile lit up the room. Holly was full of kindness and her eyes didn't betray that assumption, not one bit. She walks into the room I was just in and twists the metal thing sitting on top of the bath. I am learning so many new words and new things I am surprised my head hasn't exploded. In the mean time she offered me a seat in the floor and she sat on the edge of the bed with a brush in her hand. "Here, sit down and I will try and detangle what I can before the bath is ready." She puts a pillow on the ground for me to sit on. I sit and she starts to gently pull some of the mats away. After some time she brushes the ends of my hair and that was all we had time for before the bath was ready. She gave me the swim suit, and I looked at it confused. "We are the same gender, as long as you don't laugh or stare, I don't think I will bother with this. I am more excited to be clean to be honest." I shrug, laying the swim suit on the bed. Holly just smiles and nods. Helping me out of my clothes and into the bath. Oh I never knew hot water could feel so amazing! My body relaxes and sinks further into the tub until I am submerged up to my chin. Holly stands with the brush from before and starts to tell me how to wash my hair for the future. Which product to use and where. She meticulously massages my mane of hair, brushing out what she can while the conditioner soaks into it. I have never felt so relaxed and pampered. I love hot baths! Now that my hair was mostly detangled, Holly turned another knob and a burst or water was rushing out of the shower attached to the bath. I jumped out of my skin when it first came on. "Sorry sweetie, I should have said I was turning the shower on. This will help rinse that conditioner out of your hair." Holly apologized tenderly, touching my bare shoulder to ease my anxiety.
