Chapter 8

*3 Months Later* Kane's POV These last few months have been hell on earth. I can't be near Morgan right now, she's still in a fragile place and I don't want to scare her. Holly has reported back a few things that solidify how long she has been in those woods fending for herself. Diego got back to me with a few possible missing people that fit her description even vaguely. Most of them had temporary hair dye, you could see their roots showing through in the pictures. The one that stood out was Morgan Storm. Her file was classed as a cold case. Alpha's daughter in the Desert Forest Pack. Her body was never found, so the elders treated it like a missing person's case. My family knew them well. The photo attached to her file was a picture of a six year old. Same blue-black hair and silver eyes. I pray that it is the same Morgan that has been learning to read and write with Holly. My mate has been coming out of her shell ever since that first day. She eats in the dining hall and has made a few friends, Holly's friends I should say. All slightly older women, they have adopted her pretty much. I steal glances whenever I can. Her scent stronger than ever now she is eating the correct foods. Ben who found her a few months ago has become like a big brother. He has even been introducing her to training. She has therapy now with Doctor Taylor. To my disappointment, Doctor Taylor refused to report back on anything she says in sessions. 'She will tell you when she is ready' she says. Onyx has been sulking in my head watching her from afar. It is hurting us both but she seriously has some issues with men. That much I have deduced myself. She first entered therapy when Ben first started training with her, nothing strenuous or physical. It was just running laps. Morgan was jogging while Ben was running. He caught up to her and it scared her so much that she shut down for a few days. I damn near almost tore his head off for scaring her. Now she is back in training and learning basic self defence. As her strength increased though something strange has been happening. Our omega pack members have been bowing their heads to Morgan when she passes them, Ben and Seth have also reported to me that her aura is getting stronger, making their wolves twitchy. The next day, I decide to stop being a coward and finally speak to her. "Hey Morgan! I was wondering if you wanted to take a walk with me?" I ask as gently as I can. She agrees which makes Onyx jump off the walls of my skull, giving me a headache. I walk with her to the park and I sit on the bench, offering her a seat next to me. I ask her about if she is liking it here, has she found anything in particular she likes to do. She asks her own questions about myself and I answer honestly. "What do you do as an Alpha?" She asks, eyes full of curiousity. I explain the paperwork and protection of my pack, how it all falls on mine and occasionally Seth's shoulders as Beta of the pack. She listened intently. We spend the day at the park on that very bench, laughing and learning about each other. She seems very happy but that could be a mask. Me? I am loving every second. I wish I could hug her or touch her hand. I would give anything for a kiss from her plump rose lips. As the night sky starts to spread, Morgan begins to get a little twitchy, fiddling with her hands. "What's wrong?" I look into those silver orbs, hoping this isn't about me. "Saph, my wolf, used to be out daily before and now she has had three months of nothing. She's just getting restless I guess." Her head lowers and the floor suddenly becomes very interesting to her. "Would she like to have a run? I know a good route that I can show you, if you will allow me to come with you?" I tilt her head back up to me with my finger. She doesn't flinch, or freeze. She just stares. I realise what I have done and apologise profusely. She chuckles and shakes her head. " Actually I would love to. Would be nice to go for a run and not have to hunt or look for a good shelter." That statement is enough to make me feel pity towards her. I stand and offer my hand to her. When she takes it, the sparks light a fire inside. No, no focus! I shake whatever dirty thought is beginning to enter my head and focus on leading her to a secluded place where she can get undressed for the shift, and I leave her there and go to a nearby tree to do the same. We both emerge, meeting back at the bench. Onyx taking control may be a bad idea, but Morgan and her wolf need this run. Sitting by the bench is this gorgeous white wolf, as white as freshly fallen snow. Her eyes shining bright in the moonlight. As I approach, I finally grasp the size of Saph. She rivals my own wolf. "Wow that is one way to feel insecure..." I say to Onyx, he agrees with a huff. Onyx attempts to approach, only to be growled at but the white beauty... "Why is she so defensive? Does she not feel the mate bond?" Onyx asks me, whimpering like a pitiful child. She points her snout to the forest with a huff. "She is telling me to lead the way so she can run. She's clearly feeling pent up." Onyx replies. The night became tense as she ran ahead countless times. Onyx had been out of breath each time she pushed to go faster. Saph seemed to be barely breaking a sweat, beating my own wolf. She is definitely high ranked. Could she be the lost Alpha of Desert Forest, or just someone else of Alpha blood?
