Chapter Thirteen
I shut my inner eye. Blinked open my physical eyes. Dropped my head to my chest, exhausted.
"Food’s ready," Lilly said.
Bree was already seated at the table, watching Lilly dispense scrambled eggs from a large cast iron pan. "Thank you, Lilly. You really didn’t have to do this."
"No, I don’t mind. It’s the least I can do. Used to be I could help out with the magic stuff too, but ever since Mack got his hands on the Piero Codex, it’s like he’s driving formula one, and I still have training wheels on my bike."
I pushed myself off the sofa and took a seat at the table. I grabbed a biscuit off the serving plate. "This looks delicious, Lilly, thanks."
Bree gave me a harsh look as I started to butter my biscuit. She nodded toward Lilly, who was back in the kitchen cleaning
