Chapter 23
Abby Goodwin retires to her screened-in back porch. She tells Pari Malik that she can remain in the living room, if she keeps the lights on a dim setting and the TV volume low, because nothing is going to stop her from falling asleep right away. Pari cannot get hooked by any of the programs as she flips through the channels. She flips off the set and lays with her eyes closed, conflicted with fragmented ideas sparking up and fizzling out. New flickers enter her mind causing her to lose concentration. She is making no progress with putting her thoughts in order, but knows she is not nearly ready to go to bed.
Pari retrieves her tablet computer from the bedroom, returns to the living room, and lays on the couch with her head propped up on pillows. Without a plan, she enter
