Chapter 22
Spiraling red and blue lights pelt Apapane Ring, bouncing off the front porches, light posts, cobblestones, and gargoyles and goblins.
Police officers search Kawaii Hale’s cottage and Abby Goodwin’s cottage. Abby chooses not to remain inside. Instead, she holds Halo in The Ring’s center park and she is consoled by Camila and Katerina Rivera. The three women watch officers remove a computer and two boxes from Kawaii’s cottage.
Katerina offers to get them decaffeinated coffees while they wait for the search to end. Camila instead asks if Katerina will hold Halo and keep watch on Abby’s cottage so that she can take Abby to her home for a drink and something to eat. Katerina readily agrees, Camila and Abby depart.
