Chapter 17 Before leaving Diamond Head State Monument, Pari and Abby speak with officers, then are questioned individually and privately by Detective Marilyn Jackson. In between each questioning session, the detective removes herself from their hearing and jots additional notes while taking a series of phone calls. Pari appraises her as sharp and professional, an astute listener. For the most part, the detective writes her notes without looking down, examining Pari’s and Abby’s faces with precision while gathering their answers. Pari is first, and the questions primarily focus on the details of the afternoon’s search. Abby is next for approximately the same amount of time, then Pari is questioned again.
