Chapter 2

A few months later.

Kate’s POV.

It’s almost the end of August and I think I start coming out of trance. I took my dogs for the walk at the river site, in the forest, it was about 8 pm, but still nice, the sun just decided to go down. The forest always makes me feel calm. I don’t know if that was tall trees or bushes with still-green leaves. We had some fun and were ready to go back. I don’t know how, but we went much further than I wanted to and we lost a little. The trees looked the same where I glared. When I checked time was already 9:30 pm and was getting colder. I only wear a lime t-shirt and turquoise crop trousers and my trekking shoes, thankfully I also had my yellow hoodie.

We had been walking for a while when from nowhere just in front of us a big wolf appeared. Mean big, I meant enormous. I even didn’t know that were any wolves in this area. I have always seen rabbits or foxes but never wolves. My dogs started to bark and growl at him, but he growls on them back and they stopped like they were afraid of him. We must have been in the middle of the forest in the small clearing. I made a few steps back, but this wolf looked me in my eyes like said “do not move” so I stopped. After a while, we both hear some noise and that wolf quickly jumps on me and bites my leg.

I whine in pain, but he still holds on. After a few seconds, he disappears quickly, just like he appears. My dogs come close to me and start to lick my face and yelp. I started to see black dots and knew that I will lose my consciousness soon. That was when I saw someone coming close to us. Without my glasses I couldn’t see who was it I was so weak and only manage to whisper -‘please take care of my dogs, please’- and the darkness took over me.

Yann’s POV

My son Brandon had his 16th birthday a couple of days ago. Today is the first full moon after that occasion so he will shift for the first time.

I had followed him for a while and then I saw him. He went all by himself, even when he knew that first shift pain like hell. We had been in the middle of the forest, which is situated not too far from our house. It’s an old forest with dark, tall trees and lots of bushes. Brandon shifted in beautiful amber wolf with dark eyes, smaller than me, but he is still young. I was so proud of my son. I follow him and I spot a woman with 2 large dogs. She laughs and talks with them, cuddling their big heads. I sniff the air and.. ‘mate, mate’- Hades started his ‘new’ mantra in my head.

‘-Shush’- I tried to shut him up and for a moment lost Brandon from my sign. When I back to my senses, I hear a loud whimper and see Kate on the ground with my son’s wolf over her with his teeth immersed in my mate’s leg. -‘NO’- loud growl escaped from my mouth. Brandon runs away before I manage to get close to them.

She still hardly stayed conscious and whisper to me -“please take care of my dogs, please” and she lost consciousness.

I had been in shock for the moment, but quickly contacted my mum through our mind-link and ask her to get our doctor to our house. I shift into my wolf form and pick Kate's bridal style and start running. I also growl at her dogs to follow me. We reach my parent's house for the next 10 minutes and the doctor starts checking on Kate.

I wanted to cry and scream.–‘son what have you done!’–I shouted aloud. My mum comes to see me -‘I can’t lose her mum!. I waited so many years for her!’- I cried on my mum’s shoulder - ‘she will be fine’ -mum tried to comfort me.

The doctor came out from Kate’s room with a serious face -‘she needs a blood transfusion’- the doctor said. -‘so just do it!!’-I shouted. -‘We not got human blood, and she is during her transformation. Yann you know what that’s mean?’- the doctor told me. -‘yes I know' - I answered with my teary eyes. When a young alpha wolf will bite a human during his/her first shift that human transforms into the werewolf if it’s strong enough to survive this process. Kate was during that transformation. She was strong, but because of the bite, she lost too much blood.

-‘take mine blood. She must live, she is my mate.’- I told to a doctor.

-‘follow me then if you are sure’- the doctor said after he gets a nod of agreement from my father. -‘thanks, dad’- I whisper to him when passing him by. He sends me to assure smile, and he patted my shoulder. -‘go, son, safe her’-dad told me.

It’s already an hour after the blood transfusion finished and I sat next to Kate holding her hand.

-‘please stay with me, please my love. Don't leave me, not now, not after I found you’–I told Kate in her unconscious state. She is in pain, I can see that. Hades crying in my head too. Kate’s face is pale white with sweat drops on her forehead. I hold a wet, cold towel on her forehead, but I don’t think that was working. Her transformation will be finished as soon as she gains her wolf. I knew that this last part will be most painful for her. I felt useless, as I couldn’t help her or take her pain away.

Kate’s POV

Darkness. Is that’s it? Is that’s nothing more? God, I can’t go yet! Who will take care of my dogs they already lost one of their humans? I don’t know even who approaches us before I lost my consciousness. I had many plans with Mark, like what we will do if one day we will win the lottery. I was ready after that few months with stagnation to start realizing them.

I wanted to go to Tokyo, Japan, and see Shibuya Station, buy a little Hachiko figurine, and get some photos next to his statue. Mark and I wanted to go to Japan since we got our first Akita dog, but that was always too expensive for us, so we added that journey to our bucket list.

I want to move to the US and buy a house in Florida and get another dog or two. I want to travel with my dogs around the US. I want to live!!

I can’t just die or can I?
