The rays of the sun were yet to peak up from the hillside and yet the gang was already off. Raiden was driving a carriage while his team members were inside. Haichi was clutching his teddy bear while sprawled on one of the seats and fast asleep, Cosette held back a yawn as she did a small stretch. Sora rocked back and forth in her seat, her fingers clutching the leather seat tightly. They were going on a mission to a Merchant Village.
‘I doubt that it’s my village, Raiden would have said so. But what if he didn’t tell me to surprise me? That jerk! Gah, I’m not sure if I want to see my parents yet. Man, but at the same time I do. I want to tell them that I saw Robin… would they be even happy to know that? Or they’ll be worried about my obsession. Ugh, I am not supposed to be worrying about things like this’ she thought.
Meanwhile, back in the Capital, in a pitch dark and shady room, the light bulb was flickering on and off. In the room stood three silhouettes and another figure across from them, tightness hanging in the air as their conversation went on.
“U-uh, do you really think this is a good idea Miss Viola?” the blonde haired male asked. The Guild Master shrugged, her feet resting on the table. The young warrior sighed, it seemed that it was really hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Not that she was a dog or anything!
“I think an element of surprise is always nice~” she said to the three youngsters in front of her as the blonde warrior made a face and the other two remained stoic. The warrior looked at his teammates, his brows furrowing in deep concern of the situation on hand.
“For this matter I have to agree with Daisuke, not telling them about the real situation on hand would be against normal Mission standards.” The black haired male said his blue eyes boring into the older woman.
Miss Viola rolled her eyes and glanced at the sole female team member. “Do you have anything to say Carmelline? I believe you would share the same sentiments as me.” She asked the brunette who remained silent. The young woman raised a brow and snorted in reply as she looked out the window.
“I do agree that if they are unprepared for a fight then they should die…” she said with a shrug as Daisuke’s jaw dropped. “However, like Daisuke and Hayato have said- not telling them is against protocol.” Carmelline said with a shrug as the Guild Master’s lips turned into a pout.
“Well what I say goes anyway.” Miss Viola said and handed them the parchment. “So you have to do this regardless of the sentiments.” She told Daisuke and then glanced at Carmelline who was crossing her arms idly. “Or lack of it.”
“I guess we do all of the dirty work as always.” Hayato said as he grabbed the piece of paper from the table. The Guild Master simply grinned wide like a Chester Cat.
“Well we can always deny this mission.” Daisuke said with a frown across his face as Miss Viola laughed at the determined face of the warrior as Hayato sighed and return the parchment on the table.
“Sure you don’t have to take it if you want. I mean the four of them could probably handle a situation like that~” she said with a devious grin on her face as the three team members raised their brows at the word ‘four’. “We got Raiden as their team leader, and of course he’s more than quite capable of handling that situation. He is from the Gastenfalzh clan after all.” Daisuke visibly winced at the remark. “Plus Cosette isn’t that bad herself don’t you think Carmelline?” she grinned at Carmelline who snorted.
“Haichi is doing wonderfully to I suppose.” Hayato said with a brow raised. “Who’s the new member?” he asked the Guild Master as a triumphant grin formed on the woman’s lips.
“Why her name is Sora I think? She’s a sweet little girl from a Merchant Village.” She said as Daisuke’s eyes widened in surprise. They accepted a Merchant!?
“Really?! Wooow!” Daisuke said as Hayato sweat-dropped and Carmelline’s lips turned into a small frown. “That must be a record or something! I’ve never heard of a Merchant who ever got into this type of work.” he said as his lips formed into a smile while Miss Viola nodded.
“Yeah I know, I’m absolutely a genius for thinking that eh?” Miss Viola flipped her violet hair as Daisuke laughed and rubbed the back of his neck. He looked at Hayato and motioned him to get the paper. The male sighed and got it back. Truly events changed so quickly.
“Yes Miss! I’m actually pretty curious on how she would be able to fare so I think we’ll reconsider the mission and leave immediately!” Daisuke said as Miss Viola nodded her head and motioned the door.
“Well then I expect immediate reports on every happening. Now shoo! Get out of my office you youngsters!” Miss Viola said to them with a waving of her hand. Carmelline snorted and walked out and the two males followed suit.
After a minute had passed, Miss Viola exhaled loudly. “Man, we really should start replacing the light bulbs.” She said while a figure erupted from the shadows of the room. The glasses of the secretary glinted dangerously as she fixed them. “I will take note of that Miss Viola.” She said as the Guild Master stretched.
“I wonder how they’ll fare.” The secretary said out of the blue. Miss Viola shrugged and yawned. “In reality, the mission is above the D rank and could easily be an A rank mission or even S rank. Their team usually is capable of finishing that but with a new member? Their ability to work together might get some trouble and especially with the lack of any special abilities a Merchant possess…”
The Guild Master sighed at the speaking Secretary, “What do you want me to do then?” she asked as the Secretary then shrugged at her. Miss Viola frowned as the female assistant then waved off before she went out of the room.
“Man, she wants me to do something for those brats.” She stretched her back, “I thought being a Guild Master would be all sitting down and ordering kids around to do my work for me.” She puffed an air of out her cheeks, “Guess I’m wrong.”
. . .
“Daisuke, don’t you think we should report this?” Hayato asked his teammates once they were out of the building. “What do you mean? This is a life-time opportunity!” Daisuke said with a fist pump. “I think it’s nice that Miss Viola accepted a Merchant.” He said to Hayato who sighed. “Um, Daisuke-san? May I explain that according to the law- the ‘Chosen Ones’ to do missions like this are only Warriors, Mystics and Creativists. Merchants aren’t allowed because they aren’t fit for battle.” Carmelline said.
The young male merely shrugged his shoulders, “And I for one don’t see what’s wrong with letting a Merchant in. I mean for starters, they’re the ones who usually make weapons so it wouldn’t be so bad to think that perhaps they’re even more skilled than us Warriors.” Hayato and Carmelline sighed, knowing that it would be useless to convince their teammate Daisuke against it.
“Let’s just see for ourselves then. Either way, we accepted the mission and they would most likely need a hand or two.” Hayato said with a firm nod. Daisuke grinned at his best friend,
‘Even if we have differing thoughts, we always have each other’s’ back.’
. . .
“I don’t understand why we have to ride a carriage when we have more technological advancements than our ancestors before.” Sora said to her teammates. Well to Haichi really, Cosette was a bit busy staring out on the window into who knows where and Raiden was driving. “I mean they had aeroplanes and jets! We could have been to this village in less than an hour!”
Haichi sheepishly smiled at the brunette lady, she was a bit too forward. If that made any sense to someone, then again this was the Merchant who said she wanted to become a ‘Merchant of Death’ so what else could he say? “What you said was true, but that was also the time of Environmental Collapse. In order to ensure that our civilization doesn’t end up like the previous one, we try to use our resources more carefully.”
“Eh… still I think it’s much a waste of time to actually travel more than a week to get to the village and pick some supplies.” Sora said with a shrug. To be honest, she hardly remembered the lessons about their civilization when she was younger but she was still upset.
