Lily's POV
"What's on yourmind?" I asked. He looked like he just snapped out of his thoughts.
"Nothing" hesmiled at me, carefully moving his hand from mine and wrapping it around me.His nails are thick and sharp, and his eyes are switching every once in a whilebetween his regular eye colour to his wolfs. Letting me no that he's havingtrouble keeping himself from transforming.
We're on the way back to myapartment. The sun is out and it seems like a nice day for a run, maybe he'lljoin me in the forest before we have to go meet whoever it is he wants me tomeet. A run should help calm the nerves that are slowly building.
"Okay, but we're matesand although we just met I want you to know you can tell me anything and it'llstay with me. This is it" I said turning us into the apartment complexbefore opening the door and pressing the elevator button. Even though it may befaster taking the stairs I never do. There's something about creepy aboutapartment staircases.
"Thank you, in duetime I'll tell you everything" he says. Even as he's talking to me I canstill see that he has a million thoughts racing through his head. So I saynothing and leave him to his thoughts.
We just entered myapartment and I make my way over to my bedroom, already wanting to prepare fortonight and just wanting to freshen up. Meeting your mate for the first time ina janitors jumpsuit and a messy ponytail was not the ideal first impression Iwanted to make.
I was just about to enterthe bedroom when Noah pulled me back.
"Wait, I just came towalk you back safely. I have a lot of things at my house I have to work throughbefore you come over" he gives me an apologetic look. As he should, he'scutting the little time we spent together short.
"You don't need toprepare anything, if your place is messy I'll live, just give me a few minutesto shower and I'll be done in no time" I said plastering on a smile andturning back. He blocked my path and lowered his face to level with mine.
Placing both hands on thesides of my face "I will pick you up tonight. I promise" He pecks meon the lips and walks away.
I pull on his arm."Why are you in such a rush to leave? I know you have things to do andwhat not but can't you hang around for a bit?"
"I can, but that wouldjust postpone everything."
I guess the displeasedexpression I was trying to hold back showed because he added "Listen, it'snot like I'm happy to leave, I told you I'll come back for you tonight, and Iwill. Okay?"
I simply nodded."Fine, but don't take too long" I said hugging him. He kissed the topof my head and then he was gone.
I was never one to have alot of patience.
Noah's POV
I made my way back to mypact building quickly checking up on things and then went straight home.
My mind is going haywire.It feels like the first time I started looking after my pack. I don't know whatto think, what to do, where to start.
As soon as I walked into myhouse I heard footsteps running towards me and I immediately felt at ease butgot a wave of anxiousness.
I saw Heather turn thecorner and started my way with a big grin on her face. As she got closer shestarted to jog until she was in a full sprint coming right at me. I caught herjust as she jumped towards me, wrapping her arms around my neck.
"Hey" I mumbled,nuzzling her neck. Guilt crashes into me, I feel like cheated. I technically amcheating on the both of them until they know about each other. I hold hertighter, breathing her in and closing my eyes.
I met Heather five monthsago but I wasn't able to mark her because between transitioning into a fullalpha and taking the responsibilities of a pack, it just was too much. Thenwhen I was about to mark her, I couldn't properly control my wolf because hewasn't fully cooperating. It's hard containing a wild animal in you but now Iknow why I was having such difficulties.
"Hi, guess what?"
"What?"
"I said guess"
I slid her down from me andwalk to the kitchen with an arm draped around her shoulders.
"You know I'm terribleat guessing so how about you just tell me?" Just as I opened the fridgeshe pushed my arm off of her and slammed the fridge door, then stood right infront of me with a death glare.
"Heather, what thehell?" I shout flabbergasted.
"Yeah Noah, what thehell" she said narrowing her eyes and taking steps towards me while I wastaking steps back. Alpha's are in control of all things, and their matenormally trails behind them in awe, I think Heather lost the memo for thatthough. I would almost laugh if I wasn't in this situation.
I stopped as she corneredme into a wall. "Heather what's gotten into you?" Her canines extendand I furrow my brows.
"Why do you smell likethat?"
Avoiding her eyes I walkedaround her to the fridge and opened it once more, grabbing raw meat and bread.I hate eating raw meat but it keeps my wolf at bay so he wont try to takecontrol. Compromise.
"Like what?" Myface is starting to feel numb.
"Don't play gamesNoah. At first I tried to write it off but the smell is too insistent. You havea strong scent of a she wolf."
"Heather I work withwomen you know? I'm not only around men" I'm trying to buy myself time, Ididn't want to bring it up right away.
"I know that" shegrowled. "I can smell it on your mouth and shirt. It's all over you, so Iknow there was lots of contact." she said coming up right behind me.
I've never had to hide theway I smelt so I completely forgot to shower to get rid of Lily's scent beforecoming here. I let out a deep breath.
I turn to her and one lookin her eyes makes me terrified to tell her. I already see pain in her eyes thatshe's trying to mask with optimism that I have a good explanation for this.
"Noah what did youdo?"
"Heather, I don't evenknow how to explain to you the situation I'm in, I just need you to keep calmfor me and listen to the whole thing" I said holding her arms lightly.
She says nothing when Imake her sit at the table. I take the seat beside her and try to begin"Baby, I, I, ugghh" I sigh frustrated, running my hands through myhair.
Her chest rises and falls.When I say nothing she asks "Did you cheat on me?"
"Yes and no" Isaid confused.
"What do you mean yesand no, there's only one answer for that" Her calm voice and straight faceis off putting.
"Yes, I cheated on youwith my other mate but then again no I didn't cheat on you because you're notmy only mate" I furrow my eyebrows and shake my head. That sounded stupid. I try again "No I d-"
"Shut up. Just stoptalking " her voice is tight. "Does having a mate mean nothing to youNoah? When are you going to grow up? Your bachelor life is over and it's timeto settle down! Do you know how difficult it is to explain to people why youstill haven't marked me? At least you have another excuse for me now."
"Having a mate meanseverything to me! You mean everything to me. I settled down the second I metyou, so don't act like I didn't. I never gave you a lie for an excuse as to whyI never marked you. I told you nothing but the truth, I always have."
"And what? The newtruth is that you have another mate?" she huffs in disbelief.
I say nothing.
She shakes her head. Angerseeping out of her she asks "Did you sleep with this new 'mate' ofyours?"
"No, I kissed her, acouple of times" I said wincing.
She got up and startedwalking away but I grabbed a hold of her arm "Heather, I'm not lying, Ihave another mate I w-"
Her eyes narrowed and shepushed me. "Own up to your mistakes and stop making excuses" shescreamed, she was about to walk away when I grabbed her upper arm again. Justas I was about to say something the doorbell rung.
My heart dropped. Myinsides were begging for me to transition. My soul was humming the sound 'mate'
