Chapter 9

2674 Words
Noah's POV I start the car and minutes later we're on the main road driving. It's going to be hard to act like I'm not thinking of Heather. If Heather asked me to do the same thing with Lily it would be hard to do that too. But for Lily's sake I will do as she asks. "Have anything in mind you want to do?" I ask. "Well, we can go to a restaurant" she suggests. She puts her feet up on the dashboard and her dress hikes up a bit. Oh God. I turn to my head to focus on the road which is now very difficult task. I clear my throat "That's too basic. I go all the time with He-" I stop myself. Wow, It's been all of five minutes since she requested I pretend she's my only mate and here I go talking about Heather. "-lpers.. I go all the time with helpers of the pact." She sighs "Cool" and looks out her window. Great. I'm already messing this up. I hold one of her hands, resting both of ours in my lap. "Do you like football?" I ask. "No, I know nothing about it" she says finally looking my way. "Good. Neither do I" I say pulling into a University parking lot.  We get out the car and start walking towards the field, I haven't actually been to one of these things but it always looked like fun.  "Why are we here if we won't know what's going on in the game?" she asked. "Maybe we'll learn about it" I say with a shrug dragging her along. The game had already started and we found two empty spots in the very back. Just as we sat down one of the teams had scored a touch down. Lily started jumping and cheering. "WOO! Yeah! The other team has nothing on you they suck!" she cups her mouth with her hands to make her screams louder. I look around and notice people's reactions. Some were angry and others were confused. That's when I notice that this whole side was wearing red shirts and red painted faces while the other side of the audience was wearing yellow. "Hey, your cheering for the wrong side" screamed some angry lady in front of us.  Lily looked around and sat down her seat. "Yeah I knew that, that was me just... trying to you know.." she mumbled the rest of her sentence, avoiding everyone's eye contact. "Don't go jinxing my son, you hear?" said angry lady.  I was trying really hard not to laugh at Lily's expense "She's sorry" I said giving the lady a friendly smile. She wrinkled her nose and turned back around screaming profanities at the other team. Lily sighed when the attention was off of her and turned to look at me with a grin. "You can laugh now that the worse is over." The laugh I was holding finally let loose. "You probably should have looked around before you started screaming" I say, getting my last few chuckles out. "I was caught up in the moment" she said laughing as she shook her head. The angry lady turned back around "Well don't make it happen again." Lily looked at her shocked "Hey lady it was a mistake, mind your own business and stop eavesdropping" she snapped. The lady turned back around. I don't know how much time has passed but the other team kept scoring. "Ugh, I'm tired of booing. I want to cheer for a winning team" Lily said around the hot dog in her mouth. Ketchup on the corner of her lips. "We sat on the losing side" she whispered the last part because every now and then the lady would turn around and interrupt our conversation. I leaned in and whispered "I know" then make my eyes go wide and serious as though were about to do something big "I say we switch." Her eyes go wide, playing along she gasps. "But how will we escape her wrath" she hisses pointing to the angry woman. I laugh grabbing her hand and standing up collecting our things. "Leaving so soon?" Angry woman says. "Unfortunately, you son just isn't doing it for me" Lily says. My eyes widen as the woman's face goes red. I pull Lily in front of me and start pushing on her back so we can  get away before that woman decides to get confrontational.  "Are you trying to get pushed down the stairs by her?" I ask when were at a safe distance. She laughs "Noah she's human, all I have to do is turn my wolf eyes on her and she'll freak." I shake my head smiling and wrap an arm around her waist pulling her closer as we get to the yellow side and look for seats. We can't find any, there are only random single seats but none together, so we stand in the big crowd that's on the field. She keeps shuffling on her feet trying to find a gap between the bodies in front of us to peek through. "Noah I can't see now. Put me on you shoulders" she said, already trying to climb up on me. "What? No" I say looking back at the game. She stands still, staring at me with a hand on her hip. I try not to let a smile slip on my lips as I pretend to be focused in a game that I have no interest in. "I asked nicely the first time Noah, don't let me me ask you again" she said in a testing teasing voice. I raised an eyebrow and looked at her amused. I'm surprised, she has a little more to her than I thought. A grin was pulling at the corner of my lips but before it succeeded I turned back to watch the game. I saw her shaking her head from the corner of my eye. She began circling around me, dragging her hand on my chest and back as she walks around. Then stops abruptly. "You know what? Your not even the tallest guy here. Even if I was on your shoulders I still wouldn't be able to see" Right here. Right on this spot is where my ego deflated. Just a little. My face almost reddens, it would have if I didn't know that this was her way of making me try to prove her wrong. I was a pretty tall guy, not the tallest in the crowd we were standing in, but I was pretty close.  She now expects me to get on my knees and say something along the lines of 'I'm not the tallest but I'm tall. Here, let me show you, get on my shoulders.' But I know better than to fall into tricks. She'd feel so smug if- My thoughts were interrupted as I heard her say "Excuse me?" I look around but she's no longer in front, behind, or beside me. I look further to my right and see her tapping a guy's shoulder. He's one of the people taller than me. He turns around to look at her but before she can ask what I think she's going to ask him, I walk over to her and hold onto the upper part of her arm, pulling her back to where I was standing before. She was laughing the whole way back. "You think you're so clever huh?" I laugh, pitifully getting on my knees. She couldn't wipe the grin off her face as she held a hand to her heart and mouth faking shock. "Really? You're really going to let me sit on your shoulders?" She wiped fake tears. "How nice of you" she cooed. I roll my eyes "Yeah yeah, I'm a real gentleman, now hurry up and get on" I say shaking my head as she fixed her dress and wrapped her legs my neck.  I stood slowly, making her get use to the height. Only when I was at full height she bent down as far as she could without getting off balance. "I want to come down now" she whispered. Her hair was cascading around her head as I looked at her upside down. "Why? You just got up and you didn't even watch the game" "I know but it's awkward up here. Everyone is watching me" she says, looking embarrassed. I fake a serious but determined look "Lil, I can't do that. You went through all this effort to make me pick you up" I say, eyes starting to go wide. "I have to respect you're wishes, and if that means keeping you up there all night, then so it be told! I will." She smiles, shaking her head. She sits back up straight and tries to swing her legs off but I tighten my hold on her. "Noah!" she says frustrated. "I have to honor your wis- OW" I wince, rubbing my scalp as she hops off. "Aww, did I hurt you?" she pouts, trying to stop laughing. I frown and turn away from her, pretending to be upset. I feel her arms wrap around me from behind and her face pressed in my back. "You can't stay mad at me you know" she says. When I don't reply she starts to move to the front of my body, her arms still attached to me, ducking under one of my arms as she gets to the front.  "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pull your hair. Here, let me kiss it better" she held the side of my face and pulled it down towards her. We made eye contact right before she pulled it all the way down and kissed my hair. "I think you hurt my forehead too" I say looking into her brown eyes. She places a warm kiss on my forehead. "I think your cheeks need attention too" she said quietly. She placed a kiss on my right cheek then slowly moved to my left. "There's only one place left" I whispered. Her eye's fluttered to my lips and she smiled shyly. Moving slowly, tilting her head and closing her eyes our lips made contact. Actually they smashed together, teeth bucking against each other as someone bumped into her from behind. I felt my lip with my tongue and noticed it was bleeding from where she accidentally bit down when she got pushed. I looked around noticing everyone around me upset. The red team won and the yellow audience was going crazy, booing at the other team, people pushing each other. "Let's get out of here" I said pulling on her hand. We crossed the field going over to the red side so we can get out the way we came in. I felt Lily let go of my hand but just as I was about to turn around angry lady came in my face looking smug. "Look at that. My son started playing better as soon as you people left. I knew you guys were a jinx, if I knew earlier I would have kicked you out myself." I was about to reply when Lily caught up and grabbed hold of my hand. "Let's go, I heard there's an after party." she said smiling.  ---- ---- ---- We got to the bon fire after party, located in the woods clearing. Music was playing, drinks being handed out and the fire already lit high. Lily and I were sitting on a log near the fire pit after a little dancing. I was staring at the fire for a while now while Lily sipped on a water bottle. "What's on your mind?" She asked, rubbing her hands through my brown hair that was probably a mess. I shook my thought's clear on the messed up situation that I'm in and say something else instead "I'm just thinking about how much I forget that I'm still young. Sometimes I feel so old with the responsibilities of running and looking after a pact. My father wanted me to spend as much time as I can doing things my age but he and my mother had me so late in age" I say. She wrapped her arms around me and put her legs in my lap "You're doing great. You just need to relax a every once in a while." I look at her and take her in. Really take her in. I notice little freckles that scatter her cheeks that I swear wasn't there before. I notice that her hair looks a lot lighter than the dark brown it really is as the fire flickers light on it. I notice her curly eyelashes. I notice the beauty mark that lies on her neck. Then I feel guilty. I haven't really been paying attention to her, I haven't been giving her a fair chance as I am Heather. I knew every mark on Heather  the first day we met but I've known Lily for days now and haven't even noticed these things that marked her. I raise my hand and wrap it around her neck, using my thumb to rub over the small beauty mark. Then raise my other hand and put it on her face, using my thumb to touch her soft freckles. Her eyes slowly close as she leans in to my touch. I close my eyes and lean in and kiss her properly this time. Saying all that I can with that kiss. We sit there kissing softly and slowly for what seems like forever as people dance around us, the music surrounds us, and the fire warms us. I felt drunk off of this moment we share. I was so distracted but got this feeling. I opened my eyes and almost missed the wolf eyes watching me from the trees before it left. --- --- --- We got home way past midnight. I walked Lily to her room and kissed her goodnight. I went to Heather's room and saw her laying on the bed. I walked over and sat on the edge, I knew she wasn't asleep. She never fell asleep until I got home safe. She turned to lie down on her back looking at me with sad eyes. "You really like her huh?" I lean down and lay my head on her chest as she rakes her fingers through my hair. "Heath, don't think about it okay? Just focus on us." I say softly. I feel and hear her heart pounding loudly. She sniffles "I love you Noah" she whispers sadly. It kills me knowing that I'm hurting her. I look up and wipe her tears with my hands and place a kiss under each eye. I can't say it back. I want to, but if Lily is listening it would kill her to hear me say that, especially after the date we just had. She looks away knowing that I won't say it. I know she understands, it's just hard for it not to hurt. "Can you sleep in here with me tonight? I miss you lying next to me" she says, still not looking at me. I sigh, I can't and she knows I can't. I'm trying to be fair to both of them, but I just spent a whole night with Lily and I know she's been driving herself crazy with thoughts of what we were doing. It's hard saying no to Heather when she's in this state.  Taking off my jacket and shirt, I crawl over her and onto the other side of the bed and get under the blanket. "Just until you fall asleep" I say as she cuddles up to me, resting her head on my chest. "Night Noah" she says closing her eyes. I kiss the top of her head "Night Heath." As I lay there I think about the eyes I saw in the forest. Then about the night with Lily. Then think about how the pact will react when they find out about my two mates.
