Chapter 3 - Voice

Why do I feel like this?

The moment I saw him my heart started beating faster than earlier.

I admit that he has a good looking face but that is not the reason why I felt this way, the reason is his hair style and...

"This is Angelo Lee, he transferred here in our school is because of his father's work" Ma'am Pillar explaining Angelo's situation.

"And also it's because it is the closest to our house haha" he jokingly said.

And the class started laughing as well.

Because of that, he felt embarrass, so he scratch the back of his head reveling the bracelet I was so intensely looking at as soon as he entered the room.

And that confirm of my suspicion of him. It was the same bracelet as that man was wearing back then.

Is he really him?

"I see that your a jokester Mr. Lee" Ma'am Pillar as well laugh at Angelo's remarks. "Now let see where can you sit"

She scan the room then stop at my direction where I have an empty sit beside me. Don't tell me she's planning to sit him here?!

"Perfect! You can sit beside Miss Yalito" I knew it, "but you can also sit wherever you want Mr. Lee, it's your choice" please sit wherever. There are so many empty chairs beside here.

"No, I'll be sitting where you suggested Ma'am Pillar, it has..." and then he look at my direction with a smirk, "...good lighting near to the window" I don't know what that smirk means but I think what he said is not really about the window.

Then he walks towards me while my heart is beating really fast, like it wants to escape from my body.

But why am I avoiding him? It's not like its really him right? And beside, it was 12 years ago, surely he needs to be older than what Angelo looks like today, I think we're the same age. So, surely, his not him...right?

"Ahm Miss Yalito?"

"What the dumb fudge!!" I blurted out loud with a shock expression.

"Ex-excuse me?" Angelo said with a confuse expression while standing.

And because of my sudden remarks, the whole class started laughing. Now, I want the ground to eat me alive at this moment because of embarrassment.

"Sorry about that, what is it Angelo?" I said in a small voice while feeling embarrass.

"May I sit beside you Miss Yalito?" he said with a bit of gentleness.

"Oh yeah, sure you can" when I said that I notice that my bag was on the other chair so that's why Angelo needs to ask me first because of my bag getting on the way. I put my bag beside me so Angelo can sit on the other chair. I should mention this that the chairs we are using is the arm chairs that are attach to one another.

"Thanks" he smiled and then sat himself on the chair beside me.

"That was kinda embarrassing, Miss Yalito" Rena mocking in front of us while looking at me with a smirk.

"Oh shut up, Rena, I don't need you to remind me that" I was a bit annoyed on her comment.

"Whatever you say haha" she chuckled and then Ma'am Pillar heard that so she warned Rena to pay more attention to her class, Rena felt a little embarrass, and because of that she started taking notes diligently.

While I on the other hand, can't concentrate because of a certain person who is also taking notes and listening to the lesson.

I can not unseen what I'm seeing right now in this person's right wrist, his bracelet. It is really the same design as I remember back than, with silver skulls, silver feathers, and the thing that I most remember was the small silver sword with wings attach to it.

Is it really a big coincidence that Angelo has the exactly the same bracelet as that man has before?

Or is Angelo and that man is the same person?

"Umm...Miss Yalito?" Angelo ask of me in a small voice so that nobody can heard us.

"Yes!" I instantly reply of the sudden calling of my name but in a small voice as well.

"You umm...been staring at me from the moment I sat down, do you not want anybody sitting beside you?"

Was I what?! From the beginning!?

"Oh! Sorry! I didn't notice that I was staring at you, I was just..." what will I say for an excuse? That I was staring at him because he reminded me of someone I met 12 years ago? But I don't even remember his face, so why even bother to say it, and it was really a long time ago. Surely he's not him.

"Umm...Miss Yalito?"

"Yes!" why am I like this today?

"It's OK that you don't answer my question, I think that I pressure you to answer" he said with a bit of embarrassment. I think he saw that I was having a hard time to answer.

"Ah no, it's not like that..." should I say it? I'm just giving Angelo a hard time here, and I was a bit rude to him by staring at him. So I may be honest to him at least, "...you just reminded me of someone I met before" I smiled at him, a bit embarrass.

"I see" he just said, that I don't know how to respond to that.

Like, is that it? What do you mean by 'I see'? Should I reply something or letting this conversation end?

Am I showing him that I'm crazy or something? Or am I just overthinking this way too much than I should be?

"How about we talk about this after class Miss Yalito? I think we have a vacant time after this" He sudden request.

"Ah...What do you mean?" I mean...we just first met. Why is he suggesting we talk about what I said?

"It's just...I wanted to know you better Miss Yalito"

Huh?

"Why?"

I saw him that he got embarrass that I respond confusedly. Like, this is a normal reaction dude, you suddenly request me to talk to you after class.

"Look Alice...I-"

"Miss Yalito, Mr. Lee" Ma'am Pillar suddenly calls us both, "I see that both of you are not interested of my class" Oh crap!

"Ah sorry Ma'am, we were just talking about your previous discussion so I can catch up" Angelo lied.

"Ok, but make sure that you are listening to my discussion today" and she continue her discussion.

"Phew that was a close one, right Alice?" and then he look at me with a relief.

"Ah yeah..." I just smiled and then taking notes so that I won't be scolded again.

But before I really concentrate myself to the discussion, I just realize something.

Did I ever say my name to Angelo?

I look at Angelo and saw that he is writing diligently on his notes. When I think about it now, I never said my name to him, but how did he knew my name?

He look at me when he notice that I was staring at him again, "what is it?" he ask with a smile.

I want to ask him how he knew my name but I don't want Ma'am Pillar that we were talking again to each other so...

"Let's talk after class at the garden area"

He smiled with full of joy, "OK"

With his smile like that, my heart started beating really fast. Why?

After that, we continue to listen to the discussion, but in reality for me, I was not concentrating because of my heart really beating faster than normal. Why am I feeling like this? Snap out of it Alice!

After an hour past the discussion has end, and Ma'am Pillar exit the classroom.

"Alice, Jill let's go to the cafeteria, I'm starving after that boring discussion" Rena suggested after she stretch herself standing with her arms upward.

"Were you even listening earlier? I saw you where nodding off on the middle of the lesson. And beside, its too early to eat something, did you not ate breakfast earlier again?" Jill complaining because she doesn't want to go to the cafeteria, where it is on the first floor, we're actually on the fifth floor, so I understand why she doesn't want to come.

"No, because of my stupid brothers who ate all the food for themselves, they didn't even let me have a piece of bread" Rena complaining, "So, Alice let's go"

"About that...I was planning to show Angelo around school" I lied because I don't want them to think I have a thing to Angelo if we only talk, they always like that kind of gossip.

"What? Really?" Rena whines

"Actually I suggested that to her, you know I'm new here so I want to know the rounds about of this school" Angelo making a good explanation and goes along my excuse, "so sorry about that..."

"Renalyn, but you can just call me Rena" Rena introducing herself and offered her hand to Angelo, he accepted it.

"And I'm Jillian, but you can call me Jill" Jill also gave her hand to him to have an handshake, "You two seem close now" and then she smiled mischievously.

I stand now before Jill said something else, she's always like this whenever me or Rena talk to a new guy, "let's go Angelo before the next class starts" Angelo follows me to the door.

I heard Jill giggled, "can I have a French fried after your tour, Alice?"

"Buy it for yourself, Jill" I said while walking acted a little annoyed before we exit the room.

"Your friends seem to be really friendly" Angelo started a conversation while we walk to the garden where is at the back of this building.

"Well, I've been friends with them since high school, so we all knew our personalities really well"

"That's good" and our conversation just end like that while we walk down to the stairs.

I think this walk will be a very awkward and silent journey until we're in the garden.

And my assumption were right, we didn't talk that much while we were walking. I actually point out all the places I think he needs to know, like the library and the cafeteria because it was on our way anyway, so at least I shown him the rounds about of the school, and it became less awkward while walking with him.

And now we're here sitting one of the benches with a table between us here at the garden, while we eat our breads, that we bought at the cafeteria.

So far, he's really a silent guy, he didn't talk that much unless I ask him a question. And I'm really bad at starting a conversation, most of the time it's Jill or Rena who talks a lot and I just listen to them. I'm really bad at talking to other people, and I want to change that, but sometimes I got nervous and in the end I didn't talk that much than I should be.

"So, Alice...what do you want to talk about?" Angelo started because I think he felt the awkwardness around us.

There are few people here today so I think it's good to talk here privately.

"Actually I'll just ask you straight to the point" I said while looking at him seriously, "I want to know how did you know my first name? I don't remember that I said my name to you before"

Angelo had a bit a shock expression, that he seem to realize something, "oh yeah, now I think about it...shoot" what kind of a reaction is that?

"So...you know me before? I mean before class started" I confronted him.

Angelo straighten himself, like he is about to confess to me about something. He shown me his bracelet first by rising his right hand on the table, "I know that you've seen this bracelet before when you where a child"

"Huh?" me a bit confuse, but a bit nervous as well. Is this mean what I think it is? Is he... "So you mean, you are..."

"Yes, I am that guy you met before" he puts down his hand and smiled at me with full of gentleness, "Nice to meet you again, Alice Yalito"

When he said my whole name, it felt really familiar, like I heard the voice of the man that I met before.

I can't believe this, I still need proof. The bracelet is not enough to proof that he is him.

"How can you proof that your the one I met when I was a child? It doesn't make sense, it was 12 years ago"

He gave out a sigh, "I knew that you wouldn't believe me, if I just said it" then he pause to think for a few seconds, then smiled after he thought a good idea, "how about I just show you, who I really am"

"How?" me all confuse again.

He offer his right hand to me, "can I hold your hand?"

And me who wouldn't dream to hold another guy's hand that I just met, makes me more confuse, "why?" I just said.

"Just believe me" he said that while looking straight through my eyes with full of confidence.

I see that his very sincere, so I offered my hand to him, "then close your eyes and open them slowly"

I did what he said, and when I open my eyes, I saw wings on his back, and then when I blink again, it vanish.

"Wha-what was that?" me who can't believe of what I saw earlier.

"Yes, your assumption is correct. I am an angel"

I...don't know what to think. Is this real? Is he really an angel?

"But wait...your wings were white, I thought it was black"

"Oh...you thought that my wings were black?"

I just nod. Grabbing his hand real tight, "Um...Alice your kinda hurting me now"

I release his hand immediately when he said that, "sorry about that" I sincerely apologize.

"So back to the topic, you assume that my wings were black, why did you thought that?" he ask

"It was because of a feather, that I pick up that day"

"Oh really" he just said with a bit of disappointment, "but...you just saw my wings were white, so your assumption of the color of my wings were incorrect"

"Yeah maybe your right" me also a bit disappointed about my assumption.

"So, now the cats out of the bag, I want to straight to the point Alice" Angelo makes a serious face, "I want you to give back the necklace to me"

"My necklace? Why?" I said while holding my necklace.

"Because I need it, for the good of this world"

"What? Why? You gave this to me"

"That is the problem. I gave the necklace to you because I felt sorry for you when you were loss in the forest"

"What do you mean?"

"There shouldn't be any evidence or artifacts that an angel exist, and you who witnessed that I am an angel, should also be erased their memory"

"Huh? My memory?!" I slightly raise my voice but not too loud that can be heard who are near to us.

"Yes, Alice. Unfortunately I need to erased your memory, but only when you first met me and up to this moment"

"And after that, what's next?"

"Well after that, I'll be returning to heaven, and report that my mistakes were corrected"

"Mistakes? So your saying that the time you helped me was a mistake?!" I can feel my eyes are watering, disbelieving of the things I just heard from him, but I don't want to drop these tears just yet.

"Look Alice, I don't want to hurt you, but I just need to correct the things that I have done wrong from the past" he said it with full of sincerity on his eyes, but I can't buy it.

"You know Angelo, I was actually happy that my assumptions of you being an angel was correct, and seeing you again felt like I was the happiest girl. That finally I can thank you, thank you that you helped me and gave me hope. But from what you are saying, I just don't know how to react or even say something about this"

"You just need to gave back to me the necklace and I will erase your memories, simple as that"

"Simple as that?! You just don't know how I feel! These memories are too precious to me to be easily erased" I was about to stand up but my body won't move, "wait, what is happening?"

"Alice, I don't want to be forceful, but I assume that you're not going to cooperate with me" I see that his eyes are changing color, from dark brown into dark red.

"Let me go!" I feel afraid of his sudden change of atmosphere. The gentle and bright vibes around him suddenly change into a bit darker tone, "let me go!!" I'm now shouting but the people that are near to us don't care.

"I prepare a special barrier where nobody can hear us Alice, so shout whenever you want" he said while having a mischievous smile, "Now Alice, give me the necklace"

When he said that, my hand is moving on it's own, towards to my nape where the lock of the necklace is. I force my hand not to go there but the force is stronger than I thought, "Please, don't do this to me" I'm now crying, begging to stop controlling my actions.

"Don't worry Alice, this will be over soon, just give me the necklace" he offered his hand and I'm about to gave the necklace to him.

I'm fighting to not give it to him, but his too strong for me to fight back.

Somebody, please help me!

"Don't give the necklace"

Huh?

When I heard that voice, there was a sudden explosion, between me and Angelo.

"So your the one who stole my bracelet" when the dust cleared a little, there was a man standing on the table facing Angelo, wearing a long black coat and a black scarf.

Who is that?

"You did well Alice, but for now you need to rest for a bit. Mavros!"

"Yes sir!" I heard from my back and a sudden purple dust flew across my face, when I sniff the dust, I felt a sudden sleepiness.

But before I close my eyes, the man sat down and that where I saw his face, "when you woke up Alice, this will never happen, so sleep tight"

When he said that, I fell to a deep sleep.
