Intruders

624 Words
A bright light, loud noise, something calling.     "Get up."     My eyes snapped open with a gasp as I sat up abruptly, glancing around my dimply lit room.  The moon shone through the window and I realized I was a sweaty mess under my giant comforter, my body sore for somet unknown reason.     "Get up."     I blinked, hearing a voice.     A voice in my head?  I glanced around, confused as the voice said, "Get into your closet."  Fear tugged at me as my body moved of it's own volition.  I was like a woman in a trance, my body moving on it's own as I trudged to my closet, climbing with an ease not usually found in my clumsy body to the top shelf, curling up as small as possible as I hid behind the giant teddy bear my dad bought for me this past chirstmas.  I'd fought against my own limbs the entire way, struggling to regain control but I couldn't.  I had no control.     What the hell is happening?     "Silence."     Blinking, I felt sweat trickle down my neck but couldn't move, frozen in my curled up position as my head started throbbing.  The position I was in was uncomfortable and I was so cold that my teeth were starting to chatter.  I wanted to get down, to go back to bed.     "Clench your jaw."     I did, the chattering stopping just as my bedroom door was opened.     What?     The men who filed into my room looked like something straight out of a military movie.  Dressed in all black with no identifiers on their uniforms, they wore nightvision goggles, helmets, and had assualt rifles as they searched the room.  Were they looking for me?     Why would they want me?     My heart hammered in my chest as the men threw hand signals at one another silently, all of them filing out of the room except for one.  He didn't look like the rest of them, his tactical jacket missing so I could see the bulletproof vest he wore underneath, cutting into his powerful build.  He looked big and mean, lip curled into a scowl and, for a moment, I thought he saw me.  It was possible with me shaking like a leaf in the corner.  I couldn't be sure he wouldn't see the bear laying against me shaking.  When he gave an abrupt, chilling smile in my direction, I felt goosebumps run across my arms, the hair standing straight on it's end on my neck.  He sees me.  He definitely sees me.     Then, just as abruptly as they'd come, they left the room, leaving behind a blaring silence.  My thoughts were scattered as I tried to understand what the hell had just happened.  What just happened?     It's a dream, I decided.  A really weird dream.  A nightmare.  That's all. I'd wake up and still be tucked into my bed.  Yeah, a nightmare.  God, I couldn't wait to wake up.     After what felt like an eternity of talking myself into finally moving, I remembered that they might have hurt my family.  My family.  Adrenaline rushed through me in my panic and mindlessly, I jumped down and landed on something soft.  Glancing down at the floor, I found myself staring at the man’s jacket.  It’s a trap, ran through my mind as the puzzle pieces all clicked together.  The missing jacket, the smile, the hesitation—he knew.                 A floorboard squeaked above me and I looked up just in time for a sharp pain to tear through the side of my head.  Stars screamed across my vision and I vacantly realized he'd hit me with the butt of his rifle before everything went dark.
