Chapter 68VauxhallMichael Gordon stared out of the window of the
Director’s office then rose from the executive leather chair to remove a
picture from the wall and replace it with another. The old maxim:
“Everything comes to him who waits”, came to mind. He smiled.
Gordon had known for some time that Ben Asher, the
Director, had Jewish affiliations. Nothing of any consequence in itself.
However, he had slowly discovered the Director’s religious commitments,
his ancestral links, and more importantly, his relationship with the
Mossad.
It was only during the past month, when the Director had
become remote, spending much of his time behind a locked door having loud
conversations in Hebrew, that Gordon sensed and seized the moment.
