Cam POV
“AAAARRRRHHHH!!!!”
A mournful scrėam ripped through the pack house. You could feel the pain and agony echoing throughout the halls with the woeful sound.
“What the fück was that?” Mason jumped up onto his feet and moved toward the door.
“ALISA!” I answered.
I don’t even remember standing up and running out of my office. My body was on autopilot, my mate was in danger and all I knew was I needed to get to her, fast. My feet moved of their own accord, making my way to my mate. I could feel her grief coming through the bond. It was like a tidal wave of anguish and sorrow, my knees almost buckled from the weight of the heartache I was feeling, and my stomach twisted into a tight knot. This can not be good. A stampede of footsteps followed behind me. I flung the door open to our bedroom. It bounced against the wall hard, almost hitting me in my face as it bounced back. She was curled up into a ball on the bed sobbing uncontrollably. She looked so small and fragile that I felt my heart break seeing her like that. Sam was sitting beside Alisa, her hand was gently rubbing up and down Alisa’s back, trying to comfort her. I strode toward her, closing the distance between us, and scooped her up into my arms, cradling her close to my chest, I ran my hand down her back and kissed the top of her head, pushing as much love as I could through the bind hoping it was soothing her.
“What happened?” Violet asked Sam.
Violet and Max are visiting for a few days trying to help us out, before Alisa scrėamed, we were all in my office going over everything we have on the kidnappings and everything Chloe told us hoping we can find something from the small amount of information we have. People have been going missing in the town close to their territory as well, so we decided to join forces and fight this together.
“I don’t know. We came for a nap and she woke me up scrėaming.”
Sam was chewing her bottom lip. Her eyes were full of fear and worry. She fumbled with her fingers, not knowing what to do with herself.
“Hey it’s ok Alisa, I’m here.”
I rocked her back and forth whilst still holding her tight against my chest. Her sobs had begun to die down but I could still feel her despair coming through the bond.
“Sam, are you ok?” I asked her best friend.
Sam was more like a sister to Alisa and I would treat her as such, when I saw Alisa and Sam together I knew I had to do whatever I could to persuade Sam to stay and join us that Alisa needed Sam here but then Mason told me Sam was his mate and it was like fate knew these two shouldn’t be separated. Mason looked down at Sam, his eyes furrowed as he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close to his own chest and running his hand down her long, blonde hair.
“He… he killed her Cam,”
You could hear the pain in her voice and it broke me. I never wanted to hear Alisa in this much pain ever again. I felt rage seizing me, pounding like a drumbeat inside my heart. I would kill everyone who made my mate feel this way.
“Who killed who, sweetie?” Violet asked softly.
She crouched down in front of us, placing her hand on Alisa’s. I smiled at my sister in appreciation, she always knew what to do or say and I was relieved she was here. Max didn’t move. He stayed by the door observing everything going on. Alisa didn’t say anything. She held onto me like I was going to float away if she let go. I could see her knuckles turning white. I held her just as tightly and let her sob into my chest, her tears soaking my shirt.
*Mason, why don’t you take Sam back to your room? She looks like she’s about to cry as well. It can’t be nice to see her best friend in this state, plus I don’t think Alisa is going to be talking anytime soon. Tell her as soon as she’s calmed down, I will let her know and she can come back. Check everyone is accounted for as well and let me know. I will see if I can find out what happened with Alisa.*
*Ok man, let me know what happens and I’ll get back to you in a few hours.*
“Come on Beautiful, let’s leave Cam and Alisa alone. Would you like to go for a walk?”
She nodded her head at Mason. He pulled her to his side, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, her hand clasped onto his hand as it hung in front of her chest and he led her out of the room. I could see the worry still in her eyes as she glanced back at Alisa.
“We will leave you as well, Cam,” Violet added.
She stroked Alisa’s arm gently and lovingly as she stood up and walked into Max’s waiting arms.
“I’ll be just down the hall if you need anything.” She said as she got to Max.
I gave a small nod of my head at my sister and brother-in-law in thanks and watched them leave. It was just me and Alisa now. I waited for a few minutes before trying to talk to her, hoping a few minutes of silence would help and the fact we were now alone.
“Alisa. What happened? Please talk to me.”
She looked up at me, her eyes were dull and full of pain. My heart shattered seeing her looking so broken.
“I can’t believe she’s gone.” She whispered.
She wiped her nose on her sleeve.
“Who’s gone, my love?” She glared at me.
“My m… m… Mum…”
She broke down again, her head borrowing deeper into me. Her breathing was fast and hard, and I could feel her rage and turmoil through the bond.
“My love. Your Mom is fine. I have just seen her less than an hour ago. It was just a dream.”
I tried to be as soft with my tone as possible. She looked up at me, confused, shaking her head from side to side.
“No. I saw it, Cam! How can you say that? You were there, you saw what he did to her.”
She was starting to get píssed with me. I didn’t care, at least now I knew what was wrong and now I could begin to make her feel better.
It took me over an hour to convince her that her Mom was alive and well, her dream was so vivid she was convinced it really happened that she witnessed her mom’s death, I ended up having to go get her because she was so adamant about it and it was the only way I knew she would believe that it was all just a dream. Once she knew her Mom was fine, she told me everything that had happened in her dream. I was shocked. This couldn’t be a coincidence. I never told Alisa about the demon. I didn’t want to scare her and she described him with such accuracy even down to his stench. I needed to talk with Katrina about this. Something bigger was definitely going on.
*Mason, can you see if we can get Katrina back? I think she will be able to help us. Also, Alisa wants to apologize to everyone for scaring you all. Can you and Sam come to my office? Violet and Max are meeting us there as well.*
*I will get in touch with Katrina now and see if she can come tomorrow and we will be in your office in 10 minutes. We are just by the lake.*
*Thanks, Mason.*
I held Alisa’s hand as we made our way to the office. She felt stupid for acting the way she did but I could still feel her hand tremble in mine. Her dream had really shaken her up. I sat down on the sofa, pulling her into my lap, and holding her in my arms. Mason didn’t bother to knock and walked in a few minutes later with Sam. They sat down opposite me and Alisa and I could see Sam looking at her friend with concern. When Violet and Max walked in, I felt Alisa tense up.
“What’s wrong, my love?”
She glanced back at Max.
“He looks exactly how he did in my dream Cam. I’ve never seen him before. How can I know what he looks like?”
“I don’t know, maybe a picture. There’s a few of them around the private areas of the pack house. My mother likes to fill the place with family pictures.”
I kissed her tenderly on the side of her face and rubbed her back, hoping my touch would comfort her.
“I’m so sorry for scaring you all earlier. I’ve never had a dream feel so damn real.” She looked at everyone in the room and proceeded to tell them what had happened that made her feel so sad and upset and what had made her scrėam with fear and pain. When she got to the part about Violet being pregnant, Violet’s eyes went as wide as saucers.
“What? What is it?” I asked Violet. She shook her head in disbelief.
She turned to Max and smiled at him.
“Really?” He took her hands in his.
“Yes.” She nodded her head vigorously as tears filled her eyes.
“I’m so happy,” he cheered as he scooped her up into his arms and spun her around in delight. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling, seeing how happy my sister and her mate were.
“I'm gonna be a Daddy!”
Max was overjoyed. His eyes gleamed with happiness. I felt my smile getting wider. I was going to be an uncle. Violet looked at Alisa.
“How did you know? I only just found out today! That’s why I was at the pack hospital and how I happened to see what went on with you and Leah.”
I looked over at Alisa, her face had gone pale and her hand trembled slightly. I saw her grab her hand with her other hand to hold it steady.
“That is exactly what happened in my dream. You said the exact same thing about being at the hospital and only just finding out. When you told Max he did exactly what he just did then and I also ruined you getting to tell him yourself. I’m so sorry. I don’t understand any of this. Cam, what’s going on?”
Violet's eyes softened as she shook her head no and I felt Alisa relax a little.
“I don’t know, my love, but we will find out, I promise you.”
I kissed her temple as my own mind began to race, this was starting to get weird, everything she dreamed about was beginning to come true and now I was worried for her mother's safety, if Alisa was in this much pain and heart break from just a dream I can’t even begin to imagine what would happen to her if that part of her dream came true.
“What happened with Leah?” I asked, remembering that Violet said she witnessed something between the two of them.
“That’s not important right now. Sam, are you ok? I'm so sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you like that.”
Sam wriggled out of Mason's grip and came and sat beside me and Alisa. She took her hand and placed it on the side of Alisa’s face. You could see the bond between the two women and I was glad that Sam was here for Alisa. As much as I wished I could give Alisa all the comfort she needed, I knew Sam could offer her something else that I couldn't: the bond between sisters. That’s the same way I felt about Mason and Alex. We had a connection no one could come between and I was glad Alisa had that too.
“I'm ok, it’s you I'm worried about!”
After we had gone over everything in Alisa’s dream, I decided that we needed to take some extra measures. If Katrina was right and Alisa was the key to stopping all this, I had to make sure she would be safe. I couldn’t bear the thought of anything happening to her. She didn’t want to leave me and I was glad, she needed my presence just as much as I needed hers so she sat in a corner of my office doing some college work whilst I was talking with Max and Mason trying to piece together how Alisa’s dream fit in with everything that had happened so far. Alex was still at the hospital with Chloe and would get debriefed tomorrow when she was finally released. She has agreed to stay here at the pack house until we have caught the demon, who we learned was called Blagden and the woman was Scarlett.
“There’s no trace of them anywhere,” Mason grunted in annoyance.
“They probably went underground. You took out a huge chunk of their army,” Max added.
“What about the prisoner you captured? Have you got anything out of him?”
Mason shook his head.
“Fücker won’t talk” Mason clenched his fist by his side.
“Can I help with anything?”
Alisa spoke up from the other side of the room.
“I’m not sure if there’s anything anyone can do at the moment, but an extra set of eyes might be useful,” Max said with a nonchalant shrug.
She walked over and picked up some of the pictures we had spread across the table. She scanned them with scrutinized eyes.
“What’s this?”
She put some pictures down on the table and pointed at one of them. I squinted and leaned closer to the picture. I could hear Max chuckling at me.
“You have werewolf eyesight and you can’t see.”
I flipped him the bird and turned my attention back to the picture. At the very edge of the picture it looked like someone was standing watching us. They had been clever to make sure they weren’t seen by us but not clever enough to avoid the camera when one of my warriors took pictures for evidence. A tattoo was clearly on display and it might help us find out who this was and get us the information we needed. The tattoo was on the hand. It looked like a man’s hand and it was an upside-down triangle. The base of the upside triangle had two lines that crossed over each other just above the point of the triangle. The point of the triangle also crossed and curved up over a v.
“I’ve seen this before but I can’t remember where,” Alisa said, and this put me on edge.
If she had seen this before, then she had been close to whoever this was.
“Can we get this enlarged?” I asked Mason.
He nodded his head at me.
“Well done, my love.” I kissed her on her sweet lips.
“Looks like you were right Max, a fresh pair of eyes was just what we needed. "
