Chapter 14••In the dark

752 Words
Meanwhile…… Chloe POV The smell of damp penetrated my nose, my eyes shot open, making my head spin. I was in a dark room. The only light came from the slit in the wall that they called a window. I don’t know how long I had been here, but my head hurt like I’d been hit with a concrete block. When I touched where the pain radiated from, I could feel the dried blood knotting up my hair. I heard a small whimper from the corner of the room. I froze. Someone was in here with me. “Hello,” my voice sounded croaky. “Chloe?” Eva’s voice answered back. “Eva, are you ok?” “No, I feel like I’ve been 10 rounds with Mike Tyson.” I tried to get up and go over to her, but I couldn’t move much. One of my hands was chained up and connected with a small length of chain to the wall next to me. The chain felt harsh and cold and against my skin. Eva must have heard the sounds of the chains clanking together. “You’re chained up too?” She asked. “Yeah, where’s Maisie?” I had seen them carrying Maisie away before I was taken. Maybe she’s asleep in her still. “I don’t know. I woke up about an hour ago. What’s going on?” She was sobbing, and it broke my heart to hear one of my best friends that way. “I don’t know, but we are in this together. Someone will come and find us soon. Don’t worry.” Someone had to come to find us, right? Eva’s parents or her boyfriend would definitely be looking for us. I didn’t hold up any hope of my mother trying to find me. She will be glad that I’ve gone. A loud clanking sound came from outside of the room we were in. A light flicked on behind the door. I could see it coming through the small crack at the bottom of the door, the sound of a lock turning followed by the sound of metal scraping along the floor. Someone was coming in here. Light filled the room from the open door. “I see you’re both awake. Good,” “Scarlett?” Eva sounded lost. Her voice was so quiet. “Are you ok? What happened?” That maniacal laugh i had heard once before vibrated through the room. “Poor sweet baby Eva, so naïve and stupid. Don’t worry about what happened and worry about what is going to happen!” She screamed the last part. “Wait. Where’s Maisie and what was that thing in the tree?” I asked, hoping to try to get some clues about what the hell was going on. “Chloe, always the brains of the group. Don’t worry about Maisie, she’s ok…FOR NOW! As for the thing in the tree that was Blagden. He’s my pet and you lovely creatures are for him. I don’t see why I shouldn’t let you in on the secret. It’s not like you’re gonna last too long anyway. Blagden is gonna help me bring them fückers from Dark Moon to their knees, and you are all instrumental to that. Your sacrifices will be the key to making me stronger than ever before!” She was bat shít crazy. “What the fück are you talking about, Scarlett?” Eva cried. Scarlett cackled and walked out, leaving us in the dark again. “Eva, don’t worry, we will get out of this.” I needed to make sure she didn’t start panicking. If she panicked, I wouldn’t be able to think. I needed to find Maisie and get us out of this hell hole. One thing I knew for sure was that Scarlett was clinically insane. I sat back against the cold damp wall and exhaled, trying to calm myself down. Scarlett said something about Dark Moon, living in the town there had always been rumors about a village in the forest. I always thought it was a cult, but I’m positive they called themselves The Dark Moon. Maybe this had something to do with them. I lay down on the hard mattress that smelled like píss and cuddled myself for some comfort. Maybe this was to do with the cult in the forest. Maybe I can use the little knowledge I have of them to my advantage and try to get us out of this.
