Chapter 1
Rain padded down on the pavement as I made my way to the front door with a heavy box in my hand, sadly I had to move in alone my aunt had to work a double at the local hospital so I wouldn't get to even see her until tommorw. I used my foot to nuddge open the screen door and shuffles inside, At least my daughter Phonix was fast asleep, she was only 6 months old so she still took pretty decent naps giving me enough time to get a few things sorted. A few months ago there was a fire, killing my parents and my little brother, I lived with them but the baby and I just so happened to be out shopping when it happened. It was hard coping with it all but my aunt was doing everything she could to help me, even allowing me to move in to the family farm house she inherited from my grandparents. There was plenty of space for us but I just felt like a burden.  After hauling in the rest of the boxes and unpacking a few things I made dinner and got the baby ready for bed, once she was in bed I plopped down on the couch and started flipping thorugh TV channels. My phone went off and I picked it up, "Hello?" I answered. "Riley, its Maria, I left my phone there, but I was letting you know the neighbor's son is bringing over a casserole his mom made for you." My aunt started rambling, "Now I know you have a thing about men but I promise he's a sweet boy." "It's okay Maria I'll be fine, I already made us dinner but I can pop it in the freezer and we can have it for dinner tomorrow," the doorbell sounded and I sighed heavily, "I've got to go, I love you I'll see you in the morning." "Okay love, call this number if you need anything! Goodnight." She hung up and I mabe my way to the door, I wish she hadn't brought my issue up, it wasnt that I didn't like men, I just didn't like to be touched by them. Things in my past had left me scared and broken, it was an ongoing struggle that I was doing my best to get a handle on. I opend the door just barely enough to poke my head out, a very handsome guy with a quirky smile on his face greeted me, "Hey, I'm Carter, my mom asked me to bring this to you guys." He held a pan up wrapped in foil. I pushed the screen door open to take it from him with a small smile, "Thank you,"I murmured. "No problem, you're aunt said your names Riley, if you ever want to get out and see the town, I wouldn't mind showing you around. Just let me know, well go meet a few friends in town to give you a few people to talk to." I nod politely, "Sounds... awsome," I said very unconvincingly, "Thankyou, h-have a good night." With that we parted ways. I put the food away and checked on the baby again before curling up on the couch to watch reruns until I fell asleep. The next morning my aunt had set up a job for me as a maid, the adress she sent me to was a twenty minute drive through the woods, no other houses or buildings in sight, it was deffinatly eriee, I wasn't used to being in such a small town where there were practically no people. The road lead straight to a massive gate blocking it off a third of the way there. Who the hell was I working for and what the hell called for security like this? Maria told me nothing of the people or the job, just that I would be working for a nice family and to be on my absolute best behavior. I was begining to see why she didn't say anything, if she did I probably wouldn't have excepted the job. Unfortunately it paid well and being a nineteen year old single mother and a high school drop out left me with very little options. I pulled up to the intercom and pressed the button. "Can I help you?" A man's voice sounded through the speaker. "Um, y-yes, my name is Riley Summers, my aunt Maria spoke with someone for me about the maid position?" I heard a loud buzz and the gates began to open, "Keep driving until you reach you first right,  turn there and follow it to the parking lot, someone will greet you there." I nodded even if he couldn't see me and drove foward, following his directions. The road ahead was lined with beautiful foliage, oak trees and cherry blossems, rose bushes and beautiful lillies, I was in awe, these people were so lucky to live in a place like this, I just hoped they weren't your typical rich snobs, which was very unlikely. I pulled into a small lot and parked, an older woman in a maids uniform named Mona waited for me at the door, she was very well groomed with soft features but you could tell she wasn't to be trifled with. I greeted her and she showed me around, showing me the rooms I would be responsble for, like the study, the library and a few bedrooms. She was extremly polite but firm, giving me a quick run through of what I would do for each rom. She was very professional, it was a quick tour and after she gave me my uniform, once I had dressed myself and put my things away, she sat me down at a vanity mirror in the servents quarter restroom to show me how to properly fix my hair. The feel of her gentle fingers running through my hair sent a shiver down my spine and I had to bite my lip not to let out a sob, I missed my family they didn't deserve what happened to them, it should have been me not them. "Come dear," She said in a sweet tone, "You must meet the lady of the house, she has some rules and guidlines to go over with you before you can begin." I followed her to the study that was empty when I first got to see it, now the doors were closed, Mona knocked lightly before ushering me inside, "Watch your tone and be proper, Mrs. Brighton has a very low tolerance for nonsense." She warned. I nodded before slipping past her into the study, she pulled the door closed leaving me standing awkwardly, as a middle aged woman with black and grey hair rummaged through paperwork at the desk."Have a seat child." I quickly obeyed, taking one of the seats infront of the desk. "Ms. Summers, your aunt Maria has told me quit a lot about you." She said not bothering to look up, "She's a sweet woman, she helped my husband with his dialysis, this is a favor to her, keep that in mind while you work here." She finally turned her icey blue gaze on me and I wished she hadn't, "On that note, this is a nondisclosure form," She slid a piece of paper and a pen towards me, "This states that you will not discuss anything you see in this house with anyone, what happens here stays here, are we clear?" "Yes ma'am," "This form," she slid another paper to me, "Stats that you will obey all of our rules and regulations, any failure to do so is grounds for automatic termination." I sgined the form and handed them both back to her. "This isn't in any contract, but I expect you to be completely professional, and that your relationships with my family members stays that way, these boys have no time to fill a silly little girls fantasies and I don't want to have to adress this matter again." "Y-yes, ofcourse." I suprised how rude she had been about it. "Mona will show you to your first assignment." With that I left, unprepared for the horrors that hid with in these walls. Weeks had passed since I started working for the Brightens, it was strange the house was always so empty, I soon even came to realize Mona and I were really the only ones around, the rooms stayed neat and untouched. My normal day was spent dusting and vacuuming the same things over and over, Mona said the family usually comes and goes they have many homes, this being the main home out of at least five. The family had been gone for quite some time, she said they all traveled very often, but Mrs. Brighten came back to make sure everything was in order because they were supposed to be have a family gathering soon that's why I was hired. I would be lying if I said I wasn't curious about them, the rooms I cleaned had no personal effects or picture except for the den, where a huge painting with Mrs. Brighton and a gentleman about the same age as her, who I could only presume was Mr. Brighten, hung above the fire place. I made my way down the corridor to the main stair case, I was making my way to the kitchen, when I heard someone clear there throat. I turned to find a tall leggy blonde with blue daggers eyeing me up and down, she was beyond stunning, I couldn't even begin to compare, "What's the point of having help when there is never anyone around when you need help?" She demanded with a bit of a British accent, I didn't know how to respond, I didn't even know where she came from, "Are you mentally retarted to? Grab my bags or find someone who will!" She snapped at me. Without another word she walked away shaking her head, leaving me with her bags, I glanced around, spotting Mona at the top of the stairs, making her way down. "I see you've been acquainted with Kimberly, she's the youngest of the four children. She's been overseas for the past three years, since she dropped out of high school." It made me feel better knowing a girl like that had dropped out of school as well. "Come on dear, I'll show you where her room is." We delivered her things to her room and went to the kitchen were we were instructed to have 8 table places set for a family dinner tonight, once we had finished with that Mona gave me a break, in order to compensate for the long night we would have. I decided to head to Harry's diner on main street to grab a bite since she gave me two hours. While I waited for a waitress I called the babysitter to check on the baby and let her know I would be pretty late. "How can I help you honey?" The waitress asked. "Just a coffee and your breakfast special,"  I staired out of the window while I waited for my order, that is until a few guys blocked my veiw, they were roughhousing and being noisy, pretty much just down right annoying and rather rude when anyone walked by. I turned when they noticed me,  avoiding the stares and cat calls as they banged on the window. With out even thinking about it, I found myself staring at a man sitting at the bar reading through what looked like important papers, he was very attractive, with his dark hair and deep ocean eyes, his brow furrowed as he concentrated, it was so attractive, he looked a little older then me, with a scruffy 5 o'clock shadow. I was so taken by the man at the bar that I didn't realize the guys that were outside come in and take the booth infront of me, just as the waitress brought my food, "Let me know if you need anything else honey." She said before walking away. I could hear them calling and whistling at me but I kept my head down picking at my food, "That's a nice little uniform ya' got on there sweety." One of them slide into my booth across from me. I sunk deeper into my nicely fitted trenchcoat trying to nonchalantly cover my boobs with it, I'll admit this uniform was rather snug,  but they only had smalls, and I was too curvy for a small. "How 'bout we go on a little adventure? Huh? I can take you on the ride of your life." I didn't know how to respond, I was so uncomfortable and starting to panic. This was what I didn't like about men, they always thought they could get what they wanted,  but I wasn't interested. "You deaf sexy? Its okay my tounge can speak riddles across your little girly parts of you let me." I shuddered just thinking about his hands on me. "Actually I would just prefer to be left alone," I muttered, not knowing what else to do. "Don't be like that baby, you clean toilets for a livin', you ain't better then me." He leanded in and I could smell the alcohol on his breath, he reached over and pulled the pin from my neatly kempt hair making my skin crawl at his closeness. "I think I should get going," I said laughing nervously as I grabbed my purse to get up. "Why you runnin' I'm just havin' some fun?" He grabbed my wrist stopping me.  I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth trying not to show any weakness, "I would rather you leave me alone," I yanked my wrist from his grasp, ", and keep your hands off of me, I may clean toilets but I have more self respect then to lower myself to you." I got up quickly making my way to the counter to pay for my food, the guy I had seen at the bar before was now gone. I pushed the door open heading outside, my black heels clicking on the pavement as I made my way to my car, I still had a disgusting feeling in the pit of my stomach, I felt gross just from his touch, I wanted to take a shower. My car was parked on the side of the building away from the windows, which only gave me a worse feeling, as I approached I noticed a brand new black Cadillac with extremely tented windows parked next to me. It was weird but I kept walking, trying not to sketch myself out, "So you think you can embarrass me and walk away?" Before I could even turn to see who it was, my head was slammed into the roof of my car, putting me in a daze.
