Rhyse

Sam POV. Sam followed Faith down the maze of hallways, back behind the bar. He kept replaying that kiss with that customer over and over. Goddess it was hot. He had never, as long as he could remember at any rate, had a kiss that hot. He was so distracted, he ran right into the back of Faith who had paused near the staff entrance back to the bar. “Sh!t, sorry Faith, you right?” Sam asked, righting himself. Faith just glared at him. “ Am I alright? Am I alright? Is that all you have to say to me? What the hell Sam!” she whisper yelled, hitting him in the shoulder. ‘Ow!” he said, rubbing his shoulder. This girl could throw a punch. ‘What are you talking about?” “Oh don’t even you b***h, you know exactly what. You tell me you’re going for a piss break, and when I go to see what’s taking you so long, I find you playing a game of tonsil hockey with someone in the back alley?” Sam started to smirk, but quickly became contrite, looking at this little pixie glowering at him, tearing him a new one. “So, I repeat, what the hell were you thinking? You know what would have happened if Rhyse found you, and not me. I’ll be surprised if Rhyse doesnt know by the end of the night, looking at your neck”. Sam froze at Faith’s words, his hand flying up to his neck. He blanched, looking at Faith, eyes wide. “Sh!t. Is it bad? Is it really that noticeable? I mean as soon as his lips went near my mark I stopped it from going further, and told him to leave...” Faith stared at him, and shook her head. “You told him to leave? Thats what you were doing, telling him to leave? He’ll never come back now! i***t! You should have never kissed him in first the place. What were you thinking? You know Rhyse is always watching! “I told him to leave”’ mimicked as she sighed, exasperated. Sam grabbed Faith’s hand and squeezed gently. ‘I know, I know fcuked up ok? But I mean, did you see him? Can you blame me?” Sam whined dramatically dropping her hand. Faith just stared back at him, unmoved. Sam quickly continued as he started pacing “He showed interest at the bar, I responded in kind, but as soon as I realised he was a werewolf, I told him to get lost. But then he was there in the hall, and then he dragged me outside, and then, I couldnt think, and I tried to get rid of him, I swear, but Faith, did you see how hot he was? And then his hands were on me, and then all I could smell was his cologne, and, gods, I think he even said he was going to leave, i don’t know, but I couldn’t stop myself once he touched me, it was like I was possessed. And then, well, its been a while right?” He quickly glanced up at Faith, who was standing there, eyes wide, as he continued his tirade. “I felt alive, but then his lips were on my neck and I felt it, like its not even a full moon, but I felt the mental shift like it was a full moon, and I freaked out, but Faith’ he let a a breath, before he continued quietly “It was what I imagined kissing my mate would be like, if I we were ever to actually have you, like the books say, you know?” Sam looked back up at Faith, seeing her mouth hanging open. “He’s a werewolf?!? Fcuk, Sam, seriously, what were you thinking? A werewolf? “ Faith grabbed both his hands, whispering urgently. “Rhyse is going to smell him on you. And babe, you know you dont have a mate. Rhyse made sure of that when he, you know… None of us do. We are bound to him. And you’ll continue to be bound to him until you die, which, if you're not careful, will be sooner rather than later!” she moved her hands up to his arms, shaking him lightly. “I know, I know” he groaned, pulling away. “I know, ok? And I told him to leave”. “Who did you tell to leave?” Sam froze, looking down at Faith, whose eyes widened in fear as he heard the newcomer speak behind him. Sam took a deep breath in, before plastering on a smile and turning to face the owner of the voice. “Just a customer Rhyse, who was getting a bit too friendly. But dont worry, I took them out the back door and locked it, so they wont be back”. He tried to stand up straight, and not cower under the man’s gaze. Rhyse had a dark look in his eyes. “How friendly?” Rhyse drawled, slowly walking closer to Sam and Faith, like he was stalking prey, his signature walk. “Nothing I couldnt handle, I dealt with it, like I said” He smiled again, hoping to put the man at ease. “But we better back to it.” Sam tried to move past Rhyse, when all of a sudden, Rhyse reached out and grabbed him by the neck. Sam gulped as he felt Rhyse flex his fingers slightly. He felt Faith trying to make herself smaller behind him. “You dealt with him, he made him leave you say?” Rhyse drawled, as leaned forward, sniffing. “You smell like a wolf. Dont tell me you escorted a wolf out of my club Sam”. Sam willed his heart rate to remain steady. “What? A wolf?” he exclaimed, trying to sound incredulous. He felt Rhyse’s fingers tighten further. “I swear Rhyse, I didnt know. I know you’ve been looking for a wolf, I know we need one, I wouldnt have.. ”. He gasped a Rhyse squeeze even tighter around his neck, cutting off his words. “I know boy. And I know you know what happens if I find out that youve been lying to me too…” he left the threat hanging, staring him in the eyes before releasing him, allowing Sam to take in a deep breath.“Well now you know. If he comes around here again, then maybe you need to be a little too friendly back as well yea, and then you hit the alert, yea?” ‘of course Rhyse”. He nodded, looking down. He felt Rhyse looked him up and down one last time, before indicating with head for him to head back to work. Sam turned and grabbed Faith’s hand, and they both quickly walked away, heading straight to the bar. They worked in tandem for the rest of the night. The lines slowed, as people stuck to dancing, or found themselves ensconced in a not so secret corner. Sam was wiping down the bartop when a man and a woman approached the bar, laughing. “What can I get for you?” The woman sat on the bar stool, trying to keep her balance, he assumed. “I dont know” she answered. “My brother got some cocktail before, and I want another. But he’s since gone home, and I need another. It was some concoction, knocked me right on my ass!” she exclaimed. “As if anything could knock you on your ass, let alone a drink” the man said, and the woman punched his arm, laughing. Sam looked closer at the woman, there was something familiar about her. Her colouring, those high cheek bones, and that jaw… Sam groaned internally. You’ve got to be kidding me, he thought to himself. This has to be the sister and friend of the guy from earlier. “Ah yes, I know just the drink, I made them before. Unfortunately, were all out of one of the liquours I need for it. I can offer you something else, though it is winding down in here.” The woman and the man looked around, confused. “This place is pumping, what are you talking about?” the man asked, looking at the woman as if to say ‘get a load of this guy’. Sam had a look around quickly for Rhyse, and to check where the cameras were. He grabbed a glass before leaning in closer. The woman leant in as well, the man now chatting up some blonde nearby. “I sent your brother home Get your friend and go. It’s not safe for your kind here right now.” He looked at her, hoping she wasnt as stubborn as her brother was. The woman paused, her gaze assessing him. “My brother didn’t get kicked out, did he?” she asked, holding his gaze. Sam shook his head, and stood back upright, looking around again, he speaking more loudly than really necessary “Look, Im sorry, but your cut off ok? Go. Home.” He stood there, arms folded. The woman continued to stare at him, assessingly, before slowly nodding, and got up off the stool, grabbing her friend. ‘Come, Chad, lets go, I wanna go check on Alex”. “Who cares about him? Come one Ash, you begged to come now, and now youre trying to leave?” The woman, Ash, shook her head. “No, lets head back to the pa- “ her eyes flicked toward Sam quickly “I mean house. Lets just go back to the house, please Chad.”. The guy, Chad, groaned, but said goodbye to the leggy blonde he had been chatting up, slipping her his number. The Ash woman looked at him, a moment longer the whole time. He turned his back and breathing out a sigh, ignoring the duo as they walked out of the bar.
