Chapter 6

1828 Words
After breakfast, Vallin left with a few friends. He didn't want to be around when Thorin showed up. Felita sent him a text and waited outside for him to arrive. She didn't know what to expect, but she was surprised when a sleek black limo pulled up to the pack house. Thorin exited the car, and Felita looked him over as he approached her. His red eyes looked over her as a smile spread across his face. "I'm so glad to see you," he told her, engulfing her in a hug. Felita licked her lips before answering, "I'm glad to see you, too. How was your night?" Thorin responded truthfully, "It was difficult, but I made it." Felita's eyebrows shot up, "Really? How so?" Thorin shook his head, "I had to lie there knowing you were with someone else. To feel your emotions. It's intense." Felita hadn't given it much thought, and now she felt bad. If she felt happy being with Vallin, it probably upset him. "I think this is going to be harder than I first thought. I will try to be more cognizant of how you feel my emotions. I'm sure it is easier for a dragon couple because they only have one mate and feel each other's emotions. I'm sorry that we are in such a strange situation." Thorin finally let her go, and she missed the warmth of his body and their bond when he pulled away from her. "Don't be sorry. Now, let's get out of here.” Thorin opened the door of the limo for her. Felita slipped inside, and he joined her. “Do you ride in this thing everywhere?” she asked him, feeling slightly uncomfortable. Thorin shrugged, “I have several cars, so sometimes I drive myself, but usually, yes, I have a driver take me. You do not like it?” Felita looked around the space. “It’s just excessive to me.” Thorin tilted his head and looked at her with curiosity. “I think most women would be impressed. I am surprised, but that’s not why I came this way. I wanted to give you my full attention, so I thought it was best to let someone else do the driving.” His words made Felita feel embarrassed by her response, “That’s so thoughtful. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything.” He took her hand and kissed the back of it, making a shiver of warmth shoot through her. “No worries. Now, tell me what you like to do for fun.” They talked about their favorite things as they rode to their destination. She was so engaged in conversation that she didn’t realize how far they had driven until she noticed the water’s edge. She turned big gray eyes to him. “The beach?” Thorin smirked, “You do like the beach, don’t you?” Felita blinked hard. “Yes, I do, but I wasn’t prepared for the water.” Thorin chuckled, “We won’t be getting in the water today. It’s too cold. We will be going out on my boat.” The driver pulled up to the entrance of a marina. She looked around at the expensive boats lining the dock and was surprised when they stopped at a huge houseboat. “This is your boat,” she asked him. “It is one of my boats. Honestly, it’s probably my favorite boat.” Felita chuckled, “I expected a yacht or something.” Thorin helped her get to the deck before following her. He turned to look at the driver, “Stephan, I will let you know when we are on the way back. You are free to enjoy the rest of the day. Thank you.” Stephan bowed his head to the Dragon Prince and then turned to leave. “You’re going to drive the boat, or whatever you call it?” Thorin nodded, “Yes, once we get further out on the water, I can anchor it, and we can focus on each other.” Dark clouds were visible far to the left, making Felita curious. “Will this boat be safe in the ocean if a storm comes?” Thorin maneuvered the boat from the marina. “Yes, I wouldn’t do anything to risk your safety, but we will stay away from the storm as much as possible. Go on inside and check it out. I think you will like it.” Felita hesitated a little about snooping through someone else’s home. Finally, she gave in and went inside the house. She loved the big windows and wasn’t surprised to see luxury furniture filling every room. It was apparent that Thorin was accustomed to expensive things and didn’t give them any thought. "He is a Dragon Prince. Of course, he is accustomed to expensive things," her wolf scolded her. "I know! I’m just not used to that kind of thing, and he seems so normal. It’s easy to forget that he is a prince." Her wolf snorted, "I don’t understand how you act so nonchalantly about this whole thing. You’re driving me crazy. Prince Thorin is the heir to the dragon throne, and he left his duties to find you and spend time with you. Don’t take that for granted. Vallin is great, but he doesn’t compare. He is a child compared to Thorin. I think you would be foolish to choose the boy." Felita bristled at her wolf’s words. "Vallin is a wonderful mate. You can’t argue about that. This will not be an easy choice, choosing between two very different men. I will not consider Thorin’s title or wealth as a factor." Her wolf sighed, "You say that, but you won’t be able to ignore it. To choose Thorin means becoming the Dragon Queen. At some point, you will have to talk to him about what that means to you. The Dragons have never had a Queen who wasn’t one of them. It will be challenging to step in as an outsider. You also have to consider that he is four hundred years old. I’m sure he hasn’t been celibate that entire time. There will be women who will be jealous. He may even have children with some of them." The image of a small, dark-haired baby with red eyes flashed in her mind, and her chest tightened at the idea of him having children with someone. "See, you don’t like that idea. This is not a game or some high school love triangle. This is the fate of two alpha males." Her wolf went silent as Thorin entered the house. “What do you think?” he asked her. Felita snapped out of her internal conversation and gave him a big smile. “I love it. I can see why this would be one of your favorite boats. It’s cozy, and the view is amazing from here.” Thorin went to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator. “Do you spend a lot of time on this boat?” Thorin brought out some trays of food and set them on the counter. “As much as I can. Right now, I can spend about half the year on the boat. Unfortunately, that will change when I have to take the throne.” He prepared two plates for them, glancing at her to gauge her reaction. Felita tried to keep her face neutral. “That’s nice. Do you know when you will be taking over as King?” Thorin held up two bottles. “Do you drink wine?” Felita declined, “No, water is fine with me.” He nodded and put the bottles back, grabbing two water bottles instead. “Come sit with me. My cook prepared this meal; I am sorry to say I can only make the most basic things. I wouldn't trust my cooking unless you want grilled cheese or scrambled eggs.” Felita laughed as she put her napkin in her lap. “Well, I can cook for both of us.” She realized what her words implied, and she cut them off awkwardly. She met Thorin’s red gaze, and a fire burned intently in his eyes. Felita felt like that simple look was consuming her, and it took all her willpower to pull her eyes away. She looked at the food he had served them. “It looks delicious. Please thank the chef for me.” Thorin agreed, “I will. Now, I imagine you have a lot of things on your mind, just like I do. Are there any questions for me?” Felita speared some asparagus and asked, “How do you hide your eyes when you’re with humans?” Thorin laughed, “Out of all the things you could ask me, that’s the one you went with?” Felita chewed her food before answering, “It felt the least serious.” Thorin closed his eyes for a moment, and when he opened them, they were a dark chocolate brown. “Magic, of course. There are lots of things dragons can do that wolves cannot. The biggest of those being magic.” Felita searched his eyes, “I like the red better.” With a blink, his natural eyes looked back at her. “You don’t find them unsettling? Others have told me that they can make people feel uncomfortable.” Felita felt that a woman had told him this, and she felt a surge of jealousy; she tried not to let it show on her face, but she knew he would feel it anyway. “No, I like being able to read your eyes. Maybe it’s because they're the only way I’ve seen you or because they’re your true self, but I think they’re stunning.” Thorin felt his heart swell at her words, but he was confused by her emotion. “Why are you feeling,” he paused to think about the emotion he was feeling from their bond, “Jealous?” He wasn’t sure about this emotion. Not because he had never been jealous, but because he didn’t know why she would feel that way. Felita’s neck and cheeks burned a bright pink. She tried to keep her voice casual. “I think a woman must have told you that about your eyes. Otherwise, I don’t think you would have asked me about it.” She left the rest of the explanation unsaid. Thorin glanced away, and she saw a hint of insecurity in that one glance. Something she hadn’t thought she would find in him. It was gone when he looked back at her, but she knew what she had seen. “Yes, you are right.” Felita decided to press just a little. “Do you want to share that story?” Thorin shook his head as he cut his food. His long black hair was pulled back into a low ponytail, making his face's angles more prominent.
