Nurse on Chips

Blade threw the church doors open as soon as he saw Dean approach with May in his arms .

Dean hurried up the stairs, through the door and into the church to Jade's surprise , he had walked into the church first and had not noticed what was going on behind him .

He rushed up , his sack never leaving his grasp as he led the way towards Dean's room .

Dean had a slight issue climbing the stairs up the altar but it was quickly remedied when Blade gave him a shove from behind that had him going up the stairs .

Jade had the door pushed open already so Dean carried her through and gently placed her on the bed .

He touched her forehead , she was still getting hotter , he hurriedly turned around to the rest .

" Jade , I need water from the bathroom upstairs and any clean pieces of clothes you can get ".

Jade nodded and ran out , still clutching his sack that they still knew nothing of .

Dean shook his head and turned to Blade who looked quite eager to work .

" Blade , I noticed a wooden cabinet when I went upstairs , I am not sure if it was in your room or May's . It looked like a medicine cabinet ,look through it and see if you can find anything ".

Blade nodded and walked out while Dean knelt by the bed and lifted one of May's hands and began to roll the sleeves of her scrubs up .

She had seemed uncomfortable earlier when she realized that they had changed her clothes so he had to be more sensible with it.

He rolled the first one and then moved to the second arm to do the the same .

Jade ran in , gasping wildly as he threw himself on to a wall to catch his breath , his f*****g sack was still in his hands along with a bowl and a small blue towel , he had not brought water along.

Dean stood from where he knelt to collect the bowl and the towel without paying any mind to Jade's breathing situation .

Jade released the items into Dean's hands and fell on the ground as he continued to breathe quite loudly.

Dean took one of the bottled waters that he had stored and turned it into the bowl , he let the towel sit awhile before he wringed it and began to wipe May's face with it .

He wiped her face gently before moving to her neck and pausing , the water in the bowl that had been lukewarm , almost cold from sitting on the floor was suddenly getting warmer .

He looked up to Jade who was watching them and beckoned with the bowl .

Jade pushed himself off the ground and came forward , Dean pointed at the water for him to touch and Jade did.

" The water needs constant changing to keep her temperature as low as we can so let's take turns bringing water from upstairs , I will take the first turn , I will go now".

Dean pushed the towel one last time into the bowl and wringed it before holding it out to Jade .

" Wipe her down gently while I get some more water ".

Jade nodded and fell on his knees as he got to work while Dean left with the rest of the water in the bowl .

He hurried up the stairs and to the bathroom , emptied the bowl , filled it with new , cleaner water and left the bathroom .

He was on his way down when he heard noises from May's room and remembered what he had asked of Blade .

He walked to the room and peeked into the room .

Blade was working like he had batteries in his arms as he emptied the contents of the cabinets to the floor .

Blade had gathered a lot of pills in small plastic containers into the shirt he had been wearing yesterday when he had changed out of his fatigues .

Dean cleared his throat to attract his attention and Blade looked up hurriedly .

" Good , the cabinets are filled with different pills and I have no idea what they are supposed to be , I was going to bring it all down for you ".

Dean walked into the room and left the water on the floor as he knelt down to check the pills . They were all in the usual yellowish plastic containers but these ones had nothing written on the containers .

And all of the pills were just white with no abbreviations or brief description on them .

Dean groaned and tapped Blade's back .

" Come on , it is useless . I have no idea what this pills are for , they could be for anything ".

Blade groaned too and gave the pills one last glare before he stood , Dean stood too, lifting the bowl of water as he did so .

They marched out of the room and hurried down the stairs to Dean's room , as they were about to walk in , Dean spotted their sack of snacks that they had all forgotten .

He ran towards it and used one of his hands to drag the sack along with him as he walked into the room .

Jade was looking up when he walked into the room .

" What took you so long ? The towel almost feels like a hot packet now ".

Dean apologized as he abandoned the sack and rushed forward to hand the bowl to Jade .

Blade noticed the sack that Dean had brought in and smiled .

" I have been so hungry and I totally forgot that we had that , May will be so bitter when she finds out we had snacks without her ".

Dean took out some chips and opened them , as he munched on them , he considered May's wounds from yesterday .

They had to be cleaned soon so that there was no risk of infection .

He would clean them as soon as her fever broke .

Dean ate the chips to halfway before he went to relieve Jade of his work .

He asked Blade to fill the bowl next while Jade ate something .

Jade almost threw the rag at Dean's face as he ran towards the sack.

" I was so hungry that I think my stomach began to cannibalize on my other organs ".

Dean wiped off that mental image and began to clean May's face , her temperature had reduced but not well enough and it would be slower since they had no medicine .

Jade pulled out a large pack of crackers and began to chew as noisily as a chipmunk , sighing every few seconds like he was eating the most tender of steaks .

Dean ignored him and focused on May's face that had begun to gain some colour .

She looked really young and different when she was laying like this and not spouting awful nonsense .

It reminded him of all the times that Jaymie had caught something and Will had told him that if she was not better by morning , they had to go to an actual hospital .

He would tend to her all night and Jay would also do her best and the nights would be incredibly long and hectic but by morning , she would be okay .

They would celebrate by drenching their pancakes in syrup instead of the usual little they used and Jay would be nice to Laura for about an hour before all the effects wore off and she would go back to her usual self .

Even though Dean had been training himself mentally since he heard that his sister was sick, he still got shocked and heartbroken every time something happened to her and as he wiped down May's face , he hoped and prayed that she was doing okay .

" Hey ! Dean ! What are you thinking about ? "

Dean blinked to find Blade holding the bowl to him with his hands shaking , indicating that he might have been there for quite a while .

Dean took the bowl out of his hands and grimaced at Blade's face , he had chocolate all over his mouth and chin .

" One might think you did not have hands with how your face looks ".

Blade only grinned and returned to join Jade where he sat , still eating like a chipmunk .

Dean shook his head and continued to wring water out of the towel as he cleaned May's arms and chest .

He was engrossed in his work when Jade approached him , he was holding the chips that Dean had left half eaten .

Dean watched him stick his hand into the bag and bring out a small handful of chips that he held towards Dean's mouth .

On any other day , Dean might have scoffed and refused but today was not any other day so he smiled and opened his mouth wide enough for the chips to fit in .

They continued like this with Jade alternating between his crackers and Dean's chips till the water became lukewarm .

There was no way they were going to involve Blade with the amount of chocolate he had on his fingers and face .

Dean held out the towel so Jade could leave with the bowl while he continued to wipe down May's body .

Jade returned very fast and they exchanged positions with Dean feeding Jade now as he also fed himself his chips .

They were working like this when May's eyes suddenly opened , shocking the two of them .

They quietly observed her , unsure of how to act while her eyes just roamed around Dean's hand that held the crackers and his chips and the other hand that was still holding a cracker into Jade's mouth .

" What are you both doing ? "

She was really awake , Dean rushed forward and held her face , stretching her eyelids to look at the colour behind her eyes while she stared at all of them weirdly , including Blade who had run forward with the chocolate still all over his face .

Dean moved back , she was okay , she just needed to rest .

She was staring at Blade's face now .

" You did not answer my question , What are you all doing ? "

Dean grabbed her hands and forced her attention to him .

" You are worth more than that , you are worth a lot more than that . I wanted to tell you that earlier but then you fainted ".

Dean nodded his head , yes , he would not remain quiet and regret every day like he did for his parents .

He hoped May too would be able to live without any regrets because she seemed to honestly blame herself for her parents separation just the way Dean blamed himself for his parents death.

The only difference was that he was actually responsible for their deaths.
