Chapter 6: The Council 2

1138 Words
Coralia’s P.O.V. After learning that Tyde is our Queen I felt a sense of relief. I was worried about her being a potential foe and with our history of being under siege we cannot manage another powerful attack. With her back Anudore will begin to prosper again and hopefully she will help to bring our lost soldiers back. I miss dad so much. I know he’s still out there somewhere, I just know it. After dinner Tyde started to worry about what her uncle Arthur will think when he gets home, and she is not there. It took a lot of convincing to get her to wait until Sym gets back, so we could both take her home. Even then she seemed like she wanted to swim home. She calmed down and I talked her into trying to use her powers and although she didn’t know much she managed to create a mini bolt of lightning in her hand for a few seconds. I have no doubt in my mind that she’d master her new ability in no time and I also get a feeling that she’ll be a kick-ass fighter too.   Tyde’s P.O.V. I’ve thinking about Uncle Arthur and wondering why Madam Ara didn’t mention him or any other relatives I might have had? I always felt different from him and Em and although he has never spoken about our family or growing up I can tell he looks up to papa a lot. Mom said she was going to buy me time but it has been over a century, does that mean she’s dead and what happened to papa… he was supposed to remove the barrier but it’s been so long since I’ve heard anything about him that I’m worried I’m an orphan.  When we got back to Sym’s home all I could think about is how angry Uncle Arthur will be when he gets home and I’m not there. I need to get home now, I told Coralia I wanted to leave, but she insisted I wait on Sym, so they could both escort me back. Considering I don’t know the way I agreed. After waiting for a while Coralia suggested I tried using my powers to see what I could be and consider it an early practice round. A few attempts and failures down the line I managed to hold a ball of lightning for a few seconds before it disappeared. When that was over we had a little chat to get to know each other a little, she was a year older than Sym and although a bit reserved, she had to be the funniest person I know. I think we’re going to be the best of friends. An hour and a half later Sym got back, and he and Coralia accompanied me back to the dock at the old church before saying goodbye we all agreed to meet up early tomorrow morning, so I could meet the council and find out who is a Madam Ara assigning to be my trainer as well as my combat instructor. All in all I had a busy day ahead of me; but first thing first, I needed to get home before any noticed I wasn’t there. When I got home Aunt Mel and Em were in the backyard chatting away not noticing my absence and luckily for me Uncle Arthur had a late day at the office, so I got home before he did. He works as a supervisor at the local bottled water distribution centre. It’s not a fancy job but it pays the bills, and he’s happy, so everyone is happy.    ***   After  breakfast the next morning I was tempted to ask Uncle Arthur about our family and his childhood, growing up but I felt like the timing might be bad considering he was tired and took the day off to rest and decided to leave the questions for another day. I went back to the old dock as soon as I was done doing the dishes and as if we all planned it there came Coralia and Sym looking almost as out of breath as I was. “Good morning, you both look the way I feel.” I teased them “Good morning your Highness, are you ready for the day ahead?” asked Sym  “I think so, but I’m very nervous as well.” “Did you practice using your powers again last night?” asked Coralia “No, I was too tired. But there will be plenty of practice moving forward, so I’m not worried.” When we reached Madam Ara’s cave she and my new trainer were already outside waiting for us. I was expecting to see an old merman with some sort of arch in his back as my trainer, not a young handsome guy with a flirtatious smile and muscular built. All in all, I am not complaining about this pleasant surprise. “Tyde this is Mica, he will help you to understand and master your powers.” Madam Ara said with a tiny smile that left me with questions I’d definitely ask later. “Hello your Highness, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” Mica said, flashing a dazzling smile. “It’s nice to meet you too, Mica.” After being formally introduced, Sym advised me that we needed to meet with the Council, so we all proceeded to the meeting. Once we got there I noticed the look of amazement on some of the member’s faces but there was a look of dismay on that of others. A while into the meeting and colonel Baz made it clear he did not think I was fit to reign over Anudore, due to my lack of knowledge of the customs and culture of Anudore. As if that wasn’t enough he insinuated that Madam Ara might be losing her grip on reality and that I should prove I am really the heir to the throne of Anudore. Everyone who was pleased earlier when I walked in burst out in anger while the other defended and agreed with Colonel Baz on his quest for proof. I have read countless books about similar thing happening to lost heirs and heiresses, never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined something similar happening to me. In fact, I never would’ve imagined myself as a princess either, so I guess it comes with the territory. Although I just came here and I know little to nothing about Anudore, I’ve felt more at home here than I’ve felt living with Uncle Arthur thanks to Aunt Mel and Em. Anudore is my birthright and the home my parents sacrificed themselves to give to me. So I will do whatever it takes to keep it and protect it. Colonel Baz will have to deal with that one way or the other, I’ll do whatever test he picks but when I’ve proven myself he will respect me as his sovereign queen, and I’ll make sure of that.
