scrambled eggs

Mia. Fumbling through my keys, I stepped in through the door of the house with Mal following closely behind. The looks into the open space that welcomed dimly welcomed me. The living room occupied with soft Coffee brown sofas facing the wide screen tv, modern yet simple and cosy. The entire two-level house isn’t really big to begin with, but spacious enough and decorated to even be called “home”. Just on my right, was the kitchen more modern designed with an island counter, separating the space between the living room and kitchen. The stairs winding upwards on my left leading to the bedrooms, mine with a patio outside. Its simple, and no matter how many times my dad being well and favorably paid from being in the pack’s army, I don’t want to move or have the house redecorated, It’s the last thing that was shared between me and mum. I scuffed towards the windows and pulled apart the curtains. Letting the natural light flood in as I placed my keys and phone on the island counter, Mal took a seat on the tall stools when I began to make breakfast. “Mia.” “yeah?” “why don’t you wake me up instead so I can go to the hill with you next time?” I stopped mid-way whisking the eggs “You’ve done it multiple times, and normally I would be fine with it. But That guy is dangerous.” Yeah, he is dangerous. “Its fine Mal, it's not like he will be there again the next morning, right?” immediately, with a practiced relaxed pose, I turned around to face him, not leaving or wandering my eyes away from his. He sat there leaned in with his hands woven and propped up his elbows on the countertop, resting his chin on his knuckles, his eyes I saw with a fleeting glint of anger with difficult deciphering thoughts flashing through, his scent of lemon turning sharp. He knows I’m lying. Before I could even put my guard down to tell him the truth, He widely grinned, flashing those ridiculously toothy signature teeth. “Alright then.” I breathed in and sighed my armor away. Thank god. “do you mind helping me with the toast?” “mm.” Scraping the stool back, he walked up beside me and got to work. * * “MIA! MY DARLING!” I yelped as the floor disappeared from under my feet, and everything was a split blur before being wrapped around two strong and familiar arms, sandalwood, apple, and cigar engulfed me, my lips broke into a grin and squealed “dad!” “my baby! How have you been?” “good! I figured and planned a new choreography today, you’ll love it!” “I always love whatever my precious does my bean. Now,” he looks at the food already prepared and steaming “is that breakfast on the table?” Nodding, he placed me down after being meters high and sulked “Mia, I promised you I would make breakfast, its your birthday today.” Mal stood there amused on how the pack’s most feared and respected warrior is acting like a smoochy baby. Well, its not the first time. Dad noticed him, straightening his back and gave a little nod, earning a cheeky salute back. “Now isn’t this a good time. Mal my son. Do you want to join us?” “with pleasure Mr. Anderson” I can feel lylith reaching out to dad’s wolf, prancing in delight of being a part of my family, dad looked at me with surprise “so early Mia? Has your wolf already awakened?” Grinning back, He pulled me into another hug and inhaled my scent, his eyebrows perked by a fraction “You’ve met your mate I see.” His hands on my shoulders, shifting to arm’s length and looked at me with warmth, and worry. “my Bean is all grown up. Time goes too fast for a man like me, I wished I was there for you more Mia.” ------- 3rd POV “Shouldn’t you worry more about the pack’s army? Rouges have been scattering around our territory for a while” “Mia, nothing is left unseen under my eye. Those scums won’t even raise panic.” A light sigh escaped Mal’s mouth as he leaned on the counter witnessing the smothering scene that was beheld before him. Seeing Mia’s eyes soften from being so content with her dad makes me wonder how she even had those empty hollow ones when she smiled at him over the counter. To be honest, He’s f*****g pissed when she does that. Mal sees through her. But its like there was nothing there at the start to even look through. The imprinted fresh sight of those eyes irked Mal uncomfortable, thinking how her scent even disappeared, its like He was suddenly stripped away from home. Yes. Mia smells like home. The home and the bright smiles that always welcomed him since, no matter how many times they got into trouble as pups. That precious, precious smile will always leave him like the happiest kid in the world. Until some fucker took it away. Yet She did nothing. Absolutely nothing about it. But still told Mal and those hollow, cold eyes streaming tears is something he will never forget. “Son, is something wrong?” “Nothing sir, just wondering when I get to punch that mate of hers when he treats her wrong” A hearty laugh resonated throughout the house, across the walls and vibrated into Mal’s chest. “You know I can always count on you. You are a good example son.” Yes sir. Because she is home to me. “Sir, even if I did meet my mate, I can still take care of her right?” “Now Mal, lets have breakfast first and then we can talk”
