I woke the morning of my birthday feeling super refreshed and energised. Not because I was super excited for tonight but something just felt different about me. Before hopping in the shower I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I looked paler but in a healthy way, like I really seemed glowing. I chalked it up to my imagination and that I couldn't possibly look any different overnight, but at least I looked refreshed, I thought.
Mum was in the kitchen yet again cooking up a storm for breakfast. She always makes a big deal about birthday breakfasts. She has really gone all out today seeing the table full of breakfast foods like freshly made pancakes with all the condiments, including homemade whipped cream. Bacon, eggs, breakfast sausage, and my all-time favourite waffles. It looks like a feast, but she is feeding Lucy, Michael and Ares as well, and judging from last night's efforts I guess and Ares eats enough for three grown men. As soon as the thought popped into my head the three people in question walked into the dining room.
"Happy Birthday Bestie" Lucy said as she gave me a hug.
"Happy Birthday Harriet" Michael remarked. Giving me a smile and nod from the otherside of the room.
"Happy Birthday to the faerie princess," Ares said whilst coming towards me. I couldn't help but to take a second look at him, as for some reason, today, he looks even sexier than yesterday if that is even possible. He must've just gotten out of the shower because his hair was still damp and there was still droplets of water coming off his hair onto his forehead. I was too busy taking him all in that I didn't even notice that he was holding a beautiful bunch of fresh flowers and a gift.
"You didn't have to get me anything," I remarked, shocked that he even bothered, considering he only met me yesterday.
"Don't be silly, it's your eighteenth birthday for one, and two, I feel guilty for gate crashing your party,"
"Well, thanks. I appreciate it," I said, taking the flowers and gift. He seemed to motion at me to open the gift now, so I happily obliged. As I opened the present inside was a gold, very expensive looking tiara. As I brought it out of the bag I could see that it was covered in what looked like real diamonds. The piece looked vintage and worn, yet new at the same time. Timeless would be how I would explain it. I had so many questions, like for one, how did he find something like this is such a short time. I was literally speechless. This is way too much, considering I only just met him yesterday.
"I just thought you could be a faerie princess after all" Ares said as I was just staring at the gold piece of jewellery in front of me.
"I... Uhhh, this is way too much, I can't accept this" I said holding it back to him.
"Don't be silly Harriet, you deserve to feel like a princess in your birthday.. please, I insist, " he said, refusing my offer to give it back. I was going to continue to insist he take it back when I looked around the room. Everyone, including my Mum looked at me as if to take the offering.
"I mean, thank you, it's beautiful," I remarked.
"It's my pleasure, princess Harriet," he mused. He seemed more into this whole princess idea than I was, but I mean he was right, who doesn't want to feel like a princess on their birthday!.
We all scoffed down breakfast fairly quickly due to everyone having tasks for the day before the big party. Keith enlisted Michael and Ares to help finish up the backyard. Mum has a mountain of cooking to do, and as for Lucy and I, well, we have a morning and afternoon of pampering. Mum and Keith insisted on opening presents before everyone got on their way first. Although I love receiving gifts, I made sure to let everyone know this year was more about the party than the gifts.
"It's no fancy gold tiara, but it's something" Mum said as she handed the gift her and Keith got me. Inside it was a beautiful silver necklace with a beautiful set of faerie wings attached to the letter H. It was stunning and will go perfectly with my outfit tonight.
"It's beautiful and I love it" I said to Mum giving both her a Keith a hug.
I already knew what Lucy brought me as I helped picked them out. I unwrapped them anyway and gave her a hug. It was a georgous pair og light blue high heels with silver glitter throughout. They go perfectly with my dress tonight.
"Thanks everyone I love everything" I said eager for tonight to come around.
Lucy and I quicky got ready for the day ahead and headed out the front door.
