BACK TO NORMAL

I went back to school after a few days. I stopped having nightmares and I was glad. Every time I was scared, I would wear Aiden’s hoodie and think about the happy memories. All of this doesn’t mean I like him or something, it’s for my own peace of mind. I still get mad sometimes thinking about the whole issue and it stressed me out.
“Chippy?” Brook called me.
“What dickface!?”
“Let’s go. I’m taking you to school today.”
“I can drive myself you know. I was given a car for a reason.”
“I know, It’s only for this week.”
“Ugh…let’s go then”
We said goodbye to everyone and went to the car. While on the way to school, Brook said, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah. Don’t worry about me.”
“You were kidnapped and it’s our fault. Obviously, I’m worried.”
“So, if it wasn’t your fault?”
“I would still be worried.”
“Right”
“I’m serious Zenith”
“Why didn’t you report him to the cops?”
“Then you would have been dead. Mom and dad just told the cops that you are missing. We didn’t tell them about Aiden.”
“I’m home now, so why don’t you report him?”
“It’s complicated Zen. Its deeper than that”
“Because you guys are the mafia?”
“You were not supposed to know that. It’s not safe for you”
“My life was in danger before I even knew.”
“I’m sorry”
We arrived in school and I got out of the car.
“Take care”
“Bye Brook”
School went by just fine except for people who were nagging me about the kidnapping. Everyone kept asking if I’m depressed. Break time was finally here.
“Zenith! How are you my wonderful beautiful and fun friend?”
“What do you want Naomi?”
“Can’t I complement you?”
“You? The last time you tried to complement me, you ended up saying that I didn’t have a butt. So, that means you want something really big?”
“Can you come to my house for dinner tonight?”
“Right…no”
“Please Zen…I will do anything you want. I promise.”
“Anything?”
“Yes”
“Good. I will tell you after the dinner then”
After school, I stayed at the library to do some schoolwork. I also was dodging Brook and Trevor; they are always on my case. It’s like they want to me to tell them something. I finally went home after a few hours. I got home around 5.
“Stop getting us worried please. Where have you been? It’s late”, Brook said.
“Where is everyone?”
“Ugh…mom went to a dinner with some new friends and dad has a late meeting. Penelope and Rose are playing in the backyard. Trevor is upstairs.”
“Good. You will tell mom and dad that I won’t be here for dinner”
“Right…as if I will allow that”
“You are not the boss of me”
“I’m concerned about your safety! Why do you have to be a complete jerk? What if you get kidnapped again? Stop playing with your life”
“Firstly, I’m going to repeat what I said to you. Tell mom and dad that I won’t be here for dinner. Secondly, aren’t you smart? Couldn’t you figure out that I’m avoiding all of you? I’m stressed out okay!! I was kidnapped by my best friend’s brother! I just found out that my brothers are part of the Fucken mafia! So, can you at least give me a Fucken break!?” Then he went quiet. I went upstairs to take a shower and leave for Naomi’s place.
I took my car and drove to her place. Why am I going again? This is a bad idea. Aiden will be there and I’m going to have dinner with his family. Am I crazy or what?
I wanted to take a U-turn until I saw that I was already at the gate. It was 6 in the evening when I knocked at the door.
BROOK’S P.O.V
“Zenith is going through a tough time and she doesn’t want to let us in. What am I going to do?” I asked Trevor. He always had solutions about everything,
“She will come around. Give her some time. Don’t forget she is new in this family, she can’t just wake up and decide that everything is okay. She is used to having no one, so all of this is foreign to her.”
“Yeah I guess.” See? He is always calm about everything. He always knows what to say when I’m stressed out.
ZENITH’S P.O.V
“Zenith! Come in dear” said a woman at the door. She was beautiful and looked a bit like Naomi. She had a beautiful figure and beautiful skin.
“Good evening Mrs Black” I smiled.
“No need to be formal dear. Call me Nicki”
She invited me inside and the interior was so beautiful. It was so homely. The home was decorated mostly in light brown furniture and objects with cream white walls. There was a family picture in the living room, and it was beautiful. It was 5 of them in the picture and to be honest, it was a perfect family photo.
Naomi’s mom was setting up the table for dinner. “Can I help?” I asked.
“Yes dear. Can you put those plates properly on the table while I get the food.”
I did everything and we were done in no time. “Dinner is ready everyone! Downstairs now!” She screamed. She was so bubbly like Naomi. I guess that’s where she gets the personality. A tall buffy man appeared in the dining room. He was like an older version of Blight.
“You must be Naomi’s friend” He said.
“Yes. My name is Zenith”
“We know dear. She is always talking about you.” Then we shake hands.
“You are here! I thought you wouldn’t come” screamed Naomi.
“I made a promise.”
“Well I guess I owe you a solid then”
“Definitely” Then we laughed.
We sat down around the table. I was sitting besides Naomi and my left side was empty. We were sitting opposite her parents. I guess Blight and Aiden aren’t here. What a relief.
“Oh, we have a visitor. Hello Zenith” My face turned to face Blight with a smirk oh his face.
“Umh…hello” I stuttered. This guy scares me. He is unreadable. He sat down beside his parents. I saw Aiden coming down the stairs and my world stopped. He was just wearing a black t-shirt and some grey sweatpants. I suddenly remembered his cold face when he kidnapped me. He looked from his phone and faced right into my face. It was like my world was closing in. Why am I scared? I started to hyperventilate. My hands were trembling, I wanted to run away.
“Zenith! What’s wrong? Talk to me” Naomi said while shaking me. I tried to talk but nothing was coming out. Tears started to well up in my eyes and my eyesight was getting blurry.
“Get some water!” I heard someone scream before seeing darkness.
AIDEN’S P.O.V
She fainted because of me. What did I do? She has been out for an hour now. My mom is panicking, she thinks maybe we scared or something.
“Will she wake up? I’m really scared.”
“Mom…she will be fine. I think maybe Aiden knows what’s wrong with her. It’s his girl after all”
What!? I’m going to kill Blight I swear.
“Aiden! She was meeting the family for the first time and she panicked! You should have warned us” mom said.
“Mom, she is not my…”
“Mom! Maybe we should let Aiden have some alone time with her. She will probably wake up.” Naomi added.
What the heck!?
“Yes, everybody out now.”
Wow. I was now left with Naomi sleeping on my bed. They had to choose my room, how fun. I sat beside her on the bed and watched her rest. She had beautiful features. She looked like those black American models and hair was so long and thick. She was an African queen. She had a little scar behind her earlobe, I wonder what’s the story about it. I took a few pictures before I saw her move.
“Zen?”
“Where am I?”
“In my bedroom. My family is downstairs” She immediately turned her head to me with wide eyes.
“What? Take some water please. You scared the s**t out of everyone” I then gave her a glass of water which she drank slowly as if she wasn’t sure.
“I’m really sorry Zen. I know it’s my fault and please…”
“Shut up Aiden”
“Zen?”
“From this day, never speak to me or try to. I want your memories to disappear and I don’t wish to see you again. I would never forgive for what you did to me. Goodbye.” She said as she stood up and left.
What!? No that wasn’t supposed to happen. s**t! What am I going to do now?
ZEN’S P.O.V
When I got home, I found Brook and Trevor in my bedroom waiting for me. What now? I just want some time to myself. I don’t want to talk to anybody.
“What do you two want now?” I asked.
“Brook can you give us some space….” Trevor said. Then Brook left the room.
“Zenith…”
“Yes?”
“Are you still mad at us?”
“Yes”
“You are lying. Come on, give me the hard truth”
“Okay fine. Thing is that I don’t know what to think about all of you. I was happy that I had new brother. I didn’t care if both of you ignored me or didn’t talk to me, but all I knew is that you cared. You did things for me but didn’t want to show me your real feelings about me as your new sister. I was just glad that I have people that really cares about me except my mom. So, after this whole kidnapping thing, I thought that things will go back to normal at home, school and everywhere. It turns out that they are complicated that I thought. I want my brothers to be there for but not act crazy and overprotective. I just want to tell them anything and ask for the best advice from them without any harsh reaction or judgement. You get me?”
“s**t…I see”
“Yea”
“All we did was try to prevent you from getting in trouble again and overreacting about everything now. We didn’t think that you need space and time to get back to your normal self.”
“Something like that…”
“I’m so sorry. Thank you for telling me all of that. We promise to do better, okay?”
“Okay…” Then we hugged. It was really warm. I guess no relationship in the world is perfect. I will have to work out this one with my brothers. After a while, Trevor said, “So, big brother advice from me?”
I laughed and said, “Oh about that…it’s not that easy. It’s complicated and I don’t know what to do about it but I promise to tell you once I figure out a way forward. Maybe you will lead me in the right path.”
“Well no problem then. You should sleep now its late.”
