continuation, Celeste's POV By the time we finished eating, the store had grown even quieter. The employee behind the counter looked half-asleep, a delivery truck had pulled up outside, and the city seemed to have settled into that strange hour where everything felt suspended between today and tomorrow. Neither of us appeared to be in a hurry to leave, but eventually our empty cups and cooling conversations reminded us that time was still moving. We threw away our trash and stepped back into the night. The air was cooler now. A faint breeze lifted loose strands of my hair as we continued walking toward my subdivision. The streets were almost empty, and for a while we fell into an easy silence that felt different from the silences I'd known before. Most silences demanded something.
