Chapter 37: ReunionTHERE’S NOTHING I can use in the first suite I search, or the next, or the one after that, all of them unlocked and for good reason. There’s nobody inside. I search down the corridor in one direction, then the other, terrified I’ll walk in on another superior or an enforcer or Serovate himself.
But by the sixth suite, I’m just frustrated. It’s obviously a residential floor, nothing more. Cadence and I have a whispered debate over whether I’d be better off creeping through the stairwell or brazenly calling up an elevator car.
As it turns out, it doesn’t matter. The next door changes everything. The far end of the room seems to vanish beneath a thick film of translucent threads, but when I get closer the clouded mass resolves into a sheet of dingy plastic, and beyond it,
