CHAPTER 1
This is already two days since I turned eighteen, and the full moon is tonight, but I haven’t started noticing any sign of wolfing out. “Dad, are sure I’ll transform” I asked my father. He was really concerned about me transforming into my wolf.
“Yes, I trust you, and this is because you are my daughter,” he replied. I had to believe in the trust my father really had for me because I wasn’t willing to let him down. My mother was very strict, so I didn’t want to face whatever she would do if I didn’t transform to my wolf.
It was finally full moon and all the werewolves in the city had already started howling and wolfing out to the full moon. I waited patiently for it to happen, but I wasn’t transforming, nor was I experiencing any signs that I was about to transform.
The following morning, my parents returned from the woods looking all dirty and covered in robes. “You’re home early, so how was it?” my father asked curiously. I hesitated to answer their question for a while because of fear, but what was I standing to lose obviously, because I was talking to my parents.
“Well...... I couldn’t transform to my wolf” I muttered. I knew I had disappointed my parents now because they would have to doubt my existence.
“Well, I guess you’re a failure then,” my mother said with a firm tone. I could see the look of deep disgust in her eyes as she looked at me.
“Calm down, darling, maybe she just needs another full moon,” my father said whilst trying to calm my mother down. I was definitely sure now that I am a late shifter.
“You are expected to transform after the first full moon that comes on your 18th birthday. Have you forgotten the myths?” Mother reminded dad. My father somehow had begun to understand things the way she was now. They both retired back to their rooms to freshen up and look good.
I had no idea of what their next judgment would be so I just walked back to my bedroom to see what they would do with me. My parents were very respected werewolves in the city, so I would be a disgrace to them if they didn’t deal with me appropriately.
Rumors of the Alpha seeking for slaves in his castle had already started spreading through the town, but nobody was certain whether it was true. They said he needed weak werewolves and late shifters.
My mother had already threatened me two days ago on my birthday that she would send me to the Alpha as a slave if I didn’t transform under the full moon.
My fate from now lied in the hands of my parents, and I was uncertain what they would do next. Chasing me away from the house would be nothing but deep cruelty in the side of my parents.
“Rebecca, are you alright?” My brother Caesar said as he entered my room. Caesar was the favorite of my parents. He is strong, brave, and talented and has a nice physique that attracts ladies. Some would call him the ladies’ man because anywhere he goes, the ladies flock around him.
“I am fine,” I said as I sniffed while trying to clean the tears that had already gradually rolled down to my cheeks. Caesar always knew when I was feeling bad, and I could never hide my emotions from him no matter how hard I tried.
“You don’t seem OK to me,” he said as he took a seat next to me on the bed. He crossed his hand across my shoulder and raised my chin up to fix a gaze into his eyes.
“So tell me, what took away that your radiant smile?” he said. Though I was very shy, I was known to smile all the time, and that is something everyone who came around me loved to see. But unfortunately, I wasn’t in the mood to let any radiant smile.
“I couldn’t transform to my wolf” I muttered.
“Let go of that, probably your a late shifter but don’t be so hard on yourself” he consoled me. Though he was right, the problem I had here was with my parents.
“What about mother and father? You know how serious mum takes this” I said. He hesitated to reply for a while like he was thinking about something and snapped his finger afterwards.
“I’ll try and talk to them so that they won’t do anything funny or stupid” he assured me. “Now let me get that beautiful smile,” he said, giving me a peck on my cheek. I giggled and hugged him immediately.
Finally, I felt relieved and assured that my parents were going to give me a chance.
Waking up to the beautiful sound of the birds and the wonders of nature, it is another sweet morning in Los Angeles, and I am prepared to see what today will bring for me.
I have never been more happy as I brushed my teeth and freshened up before I went downstairs to check what my parents were up to. As I walked downstairs, I slowly approached the sitting room, and I heard my parents talking to a stranger.
“She is eighteen years old and has not transformed into her wolf since the last full moon” my mother explained. I peeped a little to find out that she was talking with the guards of the castle.
“We are seeking for slaves. This order is from the Alpha himself. So are you willing to give your daughter to us because it seems she is useless to you” the guard said. I can’t believe my mother is willing to give me to the Alpha as a slave.
“Yes, you can come inside, and I’ll fetch her for you,” she said as she opened the door, letting the guard into the house.
“Rebecca!!” My mum called out to me. My head began to ponder several thoughts. I could either escape or rather answer my mother’s call and accept my fate.
