RHEA
“How can she be your mate?” Clara said, looking like she couldn’t believe her ears. The way she looked at me made my skin crawl.
Same, sis. I believe the Moon Goddess must be insane.
In a bit, Damon moved and strangled Clara’s neck, startling me.
“Your… high… highness,” Clara choked, her hands clawing at his wrist as she tried to pry his hands away from her neck.
“Damon,” I whispered, stumbling to my feet. I was a bit scared; his eyes had a feral glow to them.
He let her go, snarling. “Don’t you ever try that s**t with her.”
“Hmm,” Clara stumbled backwards, her eyes filled with fear, and then she fled.
“Are you okay?” He asked in his usual rigid tone, as if he hadn’t tried to kill someone, even though it was for me. I felt thrilled at the thought that he accepted the mating bond.
“What did she mean?” I asked, confused. My eyes stared straight at him as if searching for something. I could feel my heart beating wildly as I waited for his answer.
“Come here,” he beckoned, sighing.
I refused to move from where I was standing, even though my body urged me to move.
Damon sighed, walking to me. “What do you want to know?”
“Everything. Who was that lady to you? Also, who the hell are you?” The truth was, I knew nothing about my mate. I only knew he was Lucien’s brother. Right, Lucien, I had forgotten all about him.
“This is going to be long,” he said, dragging me to the bed and drawing his chair closer to me.
“Claire is my fiancée; we have been engaged since childhood.”
I looked at him stupidly, my eyes turning red. What then was going to happen to me? Was he going to reject the mating bond? At that thought, I began trembling in fear.
“What about our mating bond?” I whispered, my voice filled with trepidation, looking scared and alone. Where was I going to go if he rejected it?
“I’ll never reject the bond,” Damon said to me, his eyes intense. He pushed my hair behind my ears. “You have beautiful hair.”
I blushed at his words helplessly, my ears turning red.
“Rhea, you must understand that I have a responsibility to my kingdom. I’m next in line to the throne. So my engagement can’t be broken.”
“What?” My voice went a notch higher. He was going to marry Clara? “No, I’m your mate.”
“Yes, I know, but nothing is going to happen between me and Clara. It’s an arranged marriage,” he said, as if it were the most natural thing.
My head was spinning from all the information that I had received. I was going to be a third party.
“Can you leave me alone?” I said to him, my voice hard and angry. I needed to think, and his scent was confusing my thoughts.
“Rhea,” he said with a commanding tone, forcing me to look up. “I’ll be back soon. Eat your food.”
Damon walked out of the room, slamming the door.
I dropped my head on the pillow, tears spilling out of my eyes. “ You Jerk! No, I have to leave, maybe find Lily.” I picked up the food and began eating. I needed strength for whatever I was planning.
I couldn’t stand the thought that I was going to be a third party. I walked toward his closet and picked up his joggers that were three times my size and had no other choice but to wear them like that, making necessary adjustments.
I opened the door and was alarmed by the guards who stood by the door.
“You can’t leave,” they said, using their swords to barricade the door, preventing me from leaving.
I closed the door, leaning on it, my mind working fast. I took a deep breath and screamed, “Ahhh!… my knees. Help!” I lay on the floor, my face scrunched up in pain.
One of the guards knocked and opened the door. “What happened to you, miss?” He asked, rushing to help me.
“Can you help me get Damon? Only he can help me.” I cried.
My acting must have been really good because he left. I knew I needed to act fast as I did not have enough time.
I hobbled to the door and was amazed by my spectacular acting. The guard looked at me, his face menacing and brooding.
“I feel thirsty, can I please have some water to drink?” I asked politely, blinking my eyes.
He didn’t budge, looking at me with suspicious eyes. I began coughing, I mean, full choking drama. He looked at me one more time before finally leaving.
I moved as soon as he left, going towards the other end of the hallway.
Soon I was lost. The palace was huge, and it felt like I was walking in circles.
“Look who we have here?” Clara mocked. She was standing alone with two girls flanking her sides. She also had some servants walking behind her.
“Where do you think you are going, runts?” She hissed.
I turned around to look at her so fast that I almost had a windsplash. “What did you just call me?”
“A runt. A shameless omega, who is only meant for breeding,” she ridiculed, walking closer to me.
Her friends began laughing at her words. “Do you think you have the prince's favour because you are mated to him?”
“Don’t even think of it. Prince Damon is Clara’s fiancé, and they are meant for each other,” one of the girls said, flipping her hair to the back.
I didn’t have time to exchange words with them, I needed to get away from this place. I tried to leave, but I was surrounded in a tight circle.
Clara pushed my shoulders, forcing me backwards. I stumbled on my feet, almost falling.
Her strength wasn’t small, and I could feel my shoulders aching.
“What the hell is your problem?” I yelled. I was also angry that my mate wasn’t worried about his engagement with her, and I didn’t want to deal with her right now.
“If you have an issue with whatever is going on, you can take it up with Damon.” How was this my fault? She could always take it up to the moon goddess, if she couldn't get an answer from him.
“Oh, so you aren’t a mute?” She smiled eerily. “Drag her,” she said harshly to her servants.
Two female servants flanked my sides, each taking my hands, and I began struggling. “What do you want? Let me go.” I did not have the strength to fight them, and I could only watch myself helplessly being dragged into a dark room.
“Where are you taking me to?” I screamed at her, my face red, and chest heaving greatly.
“Fill the bathtub,” Clara commanded, folding her hands.
“You are not worthy to stand beside Damon.” Her eyes were red, and she looked angry. “You are a worthless nobody, and I have no idea where you came from.” She stood in front of me, folding her hands.
“Make her kneel.”
One of the servants hit the back of my legs, and I was forced to kneel before her. I desperately wished for my wolf to appear or whatever was wrong with me to surface so I could fight back.
Clara held my neck, dragging me to the filled tub, my knees scraping the tiles. Involuntary tears spilt down my face.
“You are nothing,” she sneered.
Without warning, her hands shoved me down. My face met cold water, and it immediately entered my nose, eyes, and mouth. My hands and legs flailed wildly, trying to resist.
Her hands pushed my head deeper, my eyes and lungs burned with her actions.
She raised my head out of the water, my hair soaked and sticking to my face. I cried out, breathing deeply and heavily.
“This should teach you a lesson not to take what does not belong to you.”
Clara repeated her actions, and by then, I was already very weak.
“Don’t you ever forget your place.” She threw my head aside, my body falling weakly on the floor. I could hear the laughter around me and the clicking of their heels as they left the room.
My head was ringing, and I felt nauseated. I didn’t know how long I lay on the floor until I felt strong hands lifting me.
